Vehicle Detail

Up for grabs is my 1969 Honda CB750 – A REAL Sandcast Original!!! Unlike most people, I'm not going to simply copy/paste some manufacturer’s generic description from back in the day. Instead I thought we should talk about THIS BIKE on a personal level. Now work with me here. There's a lot of material to cover and you need to know this stuff so you can make an informed decision. Hey! You there in the back! Pay attention! You think you’re here to take a nap? Now I want you to be in tip top mental form as you read along, so maybe you should go take a bathroom break now. While you’re at it, perhaps mix yourself a Jack and Coke or grab a cold one from the fridge on the way back. Or just brew up a fresh coffee – it’s up to you. It’s important that we all get comfortable before we settle in. Go ahead, take your time, I’ll wait… Ah…where do I begin? Back in the early seventies I was (perhaps much like you) just a kid getting out of high school. And I had a 1970 Honda CB750. Man I was KING of bike night in those days. Well that bike was sold, marriage came along, then kids and work and a mortgage. But thoughts of that old CB750 were always with me. Eventually I began a hunt for an old CB750. One thing led to another and before long I had collected one of each year from 1970 to 1978. But I did not have a 1969. And it had to be a Sandcast 1969 to suit my collector’s passion. I found my Sandcast bike back in 2002. The very bike which is now the subject of this auction. I’ll let the pictures tell most of the story about this bike. It’s a TRUE ORIGINAL SANDCAST 1969 HONDA CB750. It features the specific attributes that make it a Sandcast. Cut front fender, original wrinkle tank with original paint on tank. The bike also has the original no number pipes and the proper air box. The Speedo and Tach are proper for 1969. The Tach is original. Now listen up – seeing as I am the most honest man in the world, I am going to tell you about this LOW MILAGE BIKE. The bike actually has about 16,500 miles on it. The original speedo showed 16,318 miles when I bought the bike. It had a cracked lens. I sold that cracked speedo and put the money towards a better one that I found for sale in perfect condition. That is why the bike mileage shows as only 2194 miles. But it certainly could be mistaken for a 2000 mile bike. The trained eye will notice little things. Like the tappet covers are not worn from being on and off. Original screws all over the bike are not stripped or worn, as most all have never been touched. Even the back sprocket shows that it has never even been off the bike. This CB750 has been stored indoors for several decades. The bike has only had three owners. The original owner had it up to 2001. The fellow I bought it from had it a year. I have had it since 2002. And as a Sandcast collector you know that these serial numbers tell the truth. Frame; CB750-1003421 Engine; CB750E-1003220 The bike has a brand new battery. Fresh oil and filter. It has just been serviced by a local expert Vintage restoration guy. The carbs are fully rebuilt. The front disk caliper is all rebuilt. The bike runs just fine. In fact – it runs just like it did in 1969. This is definitely not a bike offered for sale with the promise that it “ran when I stored it 15 years ago!” This bike runs perfectly right now. Brakes, lights, shifting, the works. It’s all good. REALLY GOOD. The tires are certainly road worthy as they are. If you were going to ride the bike – use the tires that are on it. If you were going to show the bike, a nice new set of vintage style matching tires would really set it off. Let’s talk about what makes something collectible. Well it has to be a highly sought after item that is extremely rare. I won’t go into all the details of what makes a Sandcast a rare bike. If you are considering this bike, you already know. And in this shape, with these proper ORIGINAL parts, in perfect running order…well…it’s hard to say how rare it really is. This is not the typical butchered sandcast you see come along with only a hint of the original bike still intact. And this is also NOT a restored master piece done over by a master craftsman from the frame up. IT is NOT a collection of restored parts assembled into a finished bike that looks better than new. No…it is an ORIGINAL bike that runs like it was 1969. The picture shows you its condition. It has some minor scratches on the tank and so forth. Pipe number one has a tiny rust area less than the size of your baby finger. But as NO NUMBER PIPES GO – these are in AMAZING CONDITION! See the close up UNDERSIDE PIPE photos. Now you either PREFER it looking like this, after all the original paint on the stock wrinkle gas tank can only be original once. Or you can have it painted. I tell you – if you painted the tank and put on a fresh set of vintage style tires you would REALLY have something. I could have done that prior to the sale, but decided not to as MANY collectors prefer the original paint. The side covers and air box have been professionally painted. This bike can be whatever the new owner wants it to be. It can be a sensational example of an original CB750, carrying the usual little nicks and so forth of an original bike. Some collectors feel THAT is most appealing and MOST valuable. Others prefer the bike to be stripped to the frame and rebuilt. Painted and polished. Looking BETTER than new. It’s a personal choice. This bike can be either one…you decide. “So if the bike is so great – and you love CB750’s – then why are you selling it?” Perhaps that is the question on the tip of your tongue? The answer is a sad one, to be sure. In some motorcycle circles I am well known and this bike is a known item as well. To make a long story short, I am selling the bike because I was recently in a horrific motorcycle accident and lost my leg. Along with this new one legged life has come some serious financial struggles – so the Sandcast is on the auction block. Likely to follow will be my other bikes, one by one. Sadly, I must be realistic and see my future for what it now really is. Anyhow – back to the bike. I have the title in hand ready to go. No liens or any of that nonsense to deal with. I will include a proper 1969 owner’s manual. The one I have is dated 69.11 on the back cover. Also I will include a COMPLETE and proper tool kit. And….get this. If you are a real Sandcast expert you will know that the original bikes came with a smooth oil filter cover, not the finned ones that all the CB750s have on them. I will INCLUDE a SMOOTH oil filter cover for you. See the picture. The bike has a finned cover on it now. I would use the finned one to ride it. But if I was going to show the bike I would put the smooth cover on the bike. It adds a real original touch. This smooth cover is not an original smooth Honda part. It was made in a machine shop starting with a finned cover and working it until it was a great replica of the original part. Yours free with the bike! You KNOW I could sell it separately and get some extra dough! If you have a question or two - just send me an e-mail. I'll fire a reply back to you right away. I have not been active on eBay for some time since I got hurt, but you will see that my older E Bay positive feedback is 100%. You can take comfort in the fact you are dealing with an honest and decent person. Another little afterthought. 2019 is only a few years away. That will be the 50th anniversary of this bike. Yes 50 years since the first CB750’s rolled off the line! Can you imagine the values in 2019? Only time will tell – but I wish I was not forced to sell – as I think the bikes will skyrocket in value in 2019. Especially the Sandcast bikes. Now, after you win the auction you will have to pay for the bike. I want $500 deposit within 48 hours of the ending of the auction. This can be via PayPal. The rest of the money BEFORE the bike leaves my driveway. Pay the balance with certified bank draft only. That draft will CLEAR my bank BEFORE the bike is turned over to you. I'm a nice guy and all - and I'm sure you are too - but don't even bother bidding or sending me e-mails if you don't have the cash. This should go without saying - but here it is anyways - the bike is sold as is, where is, and there is no warranty. I have the title on hand. You are welcome to pick up the bike locally or have it shipped at your expense. I will help at this end as I can – but arranging the shipping and the cost is the buyer’s responsibility. Now about the price… I have listed the bike with an opening bid of $99.00. Needless to say there is a reserve. It is a serious, yet realistic reserve. I won’t divulge the reserve amount during the auction. But I will give you a good clue. The reserve is less than half of what is currently being asked online for a fully restored and rebuilt flawless example. I guess we will soon see if the restored bikes or the originals are in more demand. Let the bidding begin! Bid, buy, win….collect it or ride it…up to you. But EVERYWHERE you go on this bike….you will be turning heads at EVERY corner. Good luck with your bids….ride safe and ride often! Wizard.
