Vehicle Detail
Ok heres the story. This is my work car which has gotten me to work since 2008 and it really does or can get 45+mpg. Now it developed a glitch that I tried to figure out and now I give up. These cars have the ignition coil inside the distributor and when the coil goes bad you have to by a distributor. They usually go for around $350 to $400 for a new one. A few years a go this thing started stumbling on accelration and that kind of a signal the coils going bad so I bought a used distributor on Ebay and that fixed it till now. First off it starts right up and really does run like a swiss watch. You can start driving it and when you push the accelerator for a lot of power it dies, and I mean like you turned the ignition off, let up on the gas (i.e.baby it) and it will run fine. And of coarse you can't continue to drive something if it can't go a little faster so it will eventually die out. Pull to a stop, starts right up and you start the whole process over again. Fun hey? Now here one thing it does, if it starts to die, while your driving and in gear you turn the key off and back on again then it will run fine; for a while. Then it wants to quit on you again. I bit the bullet and bought a brand new distributor. Didn't change. Bought a new throttle position sensor and advanced the timing a little and that made it somewhat driveable but not cured. Pulled the fuel pump out and that works so I put it back in. I did buy a new fuel pump so that goes with the car. Fuel pup solenoid works so that's not it. Bought a new fuel filter and for some reason it seems again more driveable but it will still die out but now it will get to running tempurature and heres whats funny, I got it to run till it's at normal temp and drove it all day, and I mean from 10am to 4pm running all over town, starting it up and stopping, going to the store getting groceries etc. Fixed right! Wrong, next morning back to the same thing. I thought it was the EGR valve so I disconnected that and no change. So Thats it, I'm at my wits end. You guys can give it a shot. But it's not worth junking out, it runns that good, no knocks leaks a little oil but burns none. Last year I did a compression test and it's 130psi even on all cylinders. If you get lucky and master it you can drive it home. I did all city driving and even with the miles it has (which I think someone put a motor in this thing as thats a lot of compression for 260k)and it still get 40 to 42mpg even in city driving. All Sales final, no refunds or gaurantees. Good luck!
