CAUTION:We cannot stress this enough – THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS Vehicle !!! HISTORY:On the evening of March 8, 1970, “Big Daddy” Don Garlits pulled his top-fuel dragster up to the starting line. The Engine was directly in front of him, the Transmission was between his legs, and he was sitting on the Rear End.When the light turned Green, Big Daddy stepped on the gas pedal. When the 2000 Horses kicked in, the transmission EXPLODED! The blast ripped the car in Half. Big Daddy miraculously survived but his right foot was cut in half and his left foot was broken in five places.“Big Daddy” Don Garlits spent the next 6 weeks in the hospital, and he vowed to build a safer Dragster that would put the engine in the back of the car. He began sketching this new type of Dragster while he was still in his hospital bed! The new design completely changed the sport of Drag Racing by producing a safer and faster race car. They are pretty much still using it today. We must warn you: This is NOT the Newer, Safer VERSION!! This a VINTAGE 1968 Slingshot Dragster Built by "BIG DADDY" Don Garlits. The serial number on the frame is "GarlitsDG1968333". This is the very same type of vehicle that EXPLODED under him and totally changed the sport of NHRA!!! We are selling this car for our neighbor “Wild Cowboy”. He has owned this car for 29 years. He is a race car driver that has been featured in films like, Decade of Thrills and Decade of Thrills 2. He made the cover of one with his Dragster going down the track in a ball of flames! This car comes with:· Hoosier Racing Slicks 36 x 17 x 16 · Dodge Rims 16 x 16· Moroso Drag Slick Tire Covers· Transmission is a B&J Billet w/SFI Spec Numbers it comes with 2 Bell Housings: 1 for Big Block Chrysler and 1 for Small or Big Block GM both with SFI Spec numbers· Front Wheels are original wire spokes with lead weights. These may be original to the car and they are for display only – these are no longer legal for racing.· All Gauges and Tachometer comes with car· New Parachute Packed and Mounted · “The Book of Knowledge” comes with the car! It has paperwork on the Gauges, Parachute, Body Panels, Brake System, Fuel System, and most everything else about the car. It is well documented. · Vintage Saferide Products Race Suit from the 70’s. You can see Don Garlits in many photos from that era wearing this very type of Silver Saferide Suit. There are Gloves, Shirt, Pants, and a Simpson Mask.· There is a Huge Photo Album that Cowboy has dedicated to only this Vehicle. There are hundreds of pictures of this car at car shows, drag strips, with Don Garlits, and more. It does NOT come with the car BUT Cowboy is willing to let you, the Buyer, go through this Memorabilia and pick out some of the pictures that you want of the duplicates! Bonus: This car holds a World Record for an Original Slingshot Dragster @ 248 mph at 5.085 ET! Last Pass was 235 mph 6.00 ET in ¼ mile.Wheel Base 210”Total Vehicle Length - 21 feet, 6 inchesVehicle Weight – about 1500 poundsFuel Capacity – about 15 gallons Wild Cowboy Performance Motor Sports designed and built the dash, front wing, body panels, motor mounts, firewall and interior panels inside the cockpit for driver protection. The motor is a 5,500 Horse Power Keith Black Billet 438 Hemi NITRO Motor. It is too dangerous for us to sell to the General Public. The ENGINE is NOT included in this auction. You can put anything you like in it; the Drive Train will hold most any GM or Chrysler Engine. If you need assistance with this, Cowboy will be glad to help you locate a motor for it... depending on what you are looking for. Cowboy can even locate you a Dummy Hemi if you just want this car for display. Cowboy does have a Small Block Chevy motor that has recently been machined... bored, new rings, rods, pistons, crank, cam, gaskets, etc... He will include this engine if you just want something to play with on the weekends. It is a 1980's 305 that has been bored up and all internal parts have been changed to 350 parts. It is pretty much a crate motor, needs carb, exhaust, etc. But if you have plans on putting something else in it, he would like to keep this motor, if not, it is YOURS. Serial Number on Frame: GarlitsDG1968333 Please feel free to ask any question. We, here at Marble Galaxy, don’t know anything about this kind of car except what we have been told and what we see. We can tell you that this car is very clean. Cowboy obviously took care of this car through the years. I wish we could show more than 24 Pictures... I took over 200 pictures! If you have a question, we will direct your questions to Wild Cowboy. He will be able answer it. And we will get back to you quickly. There is a $1,000 non-refundable deposit required within 48 hours of auction end. This must be deposited into our account before we can move forward with the deal. Then, the remainder will be sent via cashier’s check or paid in cash to Wild Cowboy. The buyer is responsible for shipping the vehicle. We know some shippers if you need assistance with that. You will need a Professional for this job.
