Vehicle Detail
The car is a 1977 Oldsmobile Cutlass Salon. It was manufactured in Arlington, Texas and shipped to Hansel Olds Inc in Fullerton, CA. It was there that it was purchased by a man and wife who kept the car very well maintained for the next 10 years. It was then acquired by a gentleman who also lived in California. The car spent the next 12 years in California until he moved to Virginia and had it trucked in an enclosed car hauler to its new home. The original motor was replaced with a genuine GM remanufactured 350R out of the crate at (139,000 miles) in 1999. The 350 turbo-hydramatic transmission was replaced with a remanufactured 350 unit (out of the crate) at 146,000 miles in 2003. The distributor (complete), 4bbl. Quadrajet carburetor (out of the box, not rebuilt), flywheel, posi-traction rear end, rear axles, springs, steering gear, front suspension, radiator, gas tank with sending unit have all been replaced with new NOS, genuine GM parts. The new 350R has 11,000 miles since being installed. I have complete documentation of all work done on the car. The car’s options include but are not limited to: Power steering, Power windows, Power door locks, Power six-way driver’s seat, Reclining buckets, Cruise control, Original am-fm 8-track, Power antenna, Dual exhaust, Color matched wheels, Body side moldings, Pin striping, Sport mirrors, Bumper guards, front and rear Rear window defroster, and Power sun-roof. The sun-roof roof was a dealer installed option, installed by the American Sunroof Corporation August 8, 1977 when the car had 22 miles on it. The sun-roof does NOT leak. The car has almost every available option for that model. All options are in working order. The passenger side window sticks sometimes, but works fine after a little coaxing. The A/C was removed in 1999 (during engine replacement) and has not been replaced. I have all the mounting brackets (powder coated), hoses/stainless lines for the system. The air cleaner and all mounting brackets have been powder coated. The radiator support, fender braces and hood hinges have all been chromed. The hood insulation is new. It is as clean under the hood as it was when new. The front and rear frame were taken to bare metal, acid washed and painted with POR 15. Other than the vinyl top being replaced by the original owner, the body and interior are completely original. The only exception is the top, which was repainted in 1977 when the dealer had the sun-roof installed. There are 2 very small dots of rust where the vinyl meets the body. The previous owner touched these up 20 some odd years ago and they have not changed in size. The plastic hood to windshield trim, which was common in these cars and yellows and cracks with age, has been replaced with a stainless one. The car has never been in an accident. The car has been garage-kept its entire life and has never seen a winter. It has not seen rain in the last 25 years. Washing is done by hand and chamois dried. The paint on this car is amazing. It’s only interior issue is the bottom of the driver’s seat that has split due to age and wear. There is some discoloration of the shade that covers the sun roof. The car has both front and rear NOS color-matched floor mats. The bumpers are original and have no rust or dents or dings. The doors have a few small dings on them where I suspect other car doors have probably been opened up against them. The wheel moldings and chrome trim rings have been replaced with original NOS parts. The rear bumper fillers have been replaced with new ones and painted to match the car. The trunk is as clean as it was when new. The spare tire and jack are just as they should be. I have had new weather stripping installed in the trunk, as well as the doors. I have the weather stripping for the windows, but have not yet installed it. I will include it with the car. The tires are whitewall and have about 90% tread left. I’ve toyed with idea of putting white letter tires on it, but decided these looked pretty good. This car is dependable. It starts the first time, every time. It can be driven anywhere with no mechanical issues. It rides like a dream. I get plenty of “thumbs up” and stares and smiles when people see the car. And almost always somebody will start telling me of the one they had way back when. I’m not in a hurry to sell the car. I don’t have to sell the car, but I don’t need it. I only pull it out on the most beautiful of days and most of the time it just sits in the basement. I have more pictures, if interested. Please feel free to ask any questions and I’ll do my best to answer them. Anything other than cash must clear the bank before the car changes hands. Once the car sells, I have many NOS parts pertaining to this car that I will be selling also. This includes a set of NOS grilles. But I can’t let them go unless the car sells. If you are interested, keep any eye open for them. On Apr-10-14 at 16:43:16 PDT, seller added the following information: The reserve is low. I'm not greedy and I intend for the car to sell. I've owned 5 of theses cars in my life. All of them 77's. Some Salons, some Supremes and I have a pretty good idea of what they are worth. I know that even in showroom condition, they are not a 10,000.00 car. Sad, but true. Several have asked me to post a buy it now price, or what my asking price is. I'm posting a buy it now option for anyone who thinks they can't wait three days I have had a huge response to this posting. Thank you and I hope I'm answering everyone's questions to their satisfaction.
