Vehicle Detail
The truck was an old State of New Mexico truck. It was originally a 2wd gas, I converted it to 4wd and diesel using the 91.5 frame front and welded it to the crew cab frame just behind the transfer case. (seen in pictures) The donor truck was a 91.5 W-250 with an estimated 250,000 to 275,000. The odometer was not working when I bought the truck. I have been taking the current reading and adding 100,000 to the odometer. The engine bearings were down to the copper when I had it out. I put a set of rod and main bearings in it and inspected the rest. There were still very defined cross hatch marks in the cylinders. The transmission had a mounting ear broken off. I replaced the case and had the transmission rebuilt with all new bearings, syncros, and a 3-4 fork. Transfer case was solid. It has 4" exhaust from the turbo back with a quiet high flow muffler. I started to paint the interior "silver star metallic" a factory color for the 91 model year. It has 17" aluminum wheels, it does need tires they are at about 15%. The 4x4 works great and the Dana 60 rear is strong and the posi is tight. I used the axle from the crew cab, Dana 60, instead of the 70 from the diesel. I still have the 70 and it will be included with the truck, but it has no posi-trac. When the frame work was done by myself and father-in-law, we got to 1/8" square over the full length. Factory square was only at 7/16" originally. Let go of the wheel at 60 and it stays tight to the lane. The downfall to the truck is the #5 injector seeps, needs seal kits. About $50 on ebay. The injector pump also seeps. With the extremely dry diesel now, it has been hard on the 22 year old seals. This doesn't affect the runability, it just smells like diesel in the right front corner. The top cover of the transmission needs looked at, as the truck will stay in 5th when shifted. This is a common problem for the G360 trans. It does pop right back in, just annoying. I have to make a conscious thought when down shifting from 5th, then there is no problem. I have modified the floor board to accommodate pulling the top cover without dropping the trans. The body is fairly rough but is fixable. The bed will probably need replaced. All in all the truck is pretty solid. It starts first time within 1/2 to 1 revolution of cranking. The valves were run in October and the compression as also checked. I don't remember the compression numbers but they were all well within spec. No red flags of any engine trouble. I will include the custom mix silver paint that's left, Dana 70 rear axle, extra hood, dash bezel and rear glass. I also have a new set of window seals for the drivers side front, passenger side has already been installed. The reserve is set at what I have in the truck. The auction will run till close, please don't contact me with offers. Bid to win. This truck is sold AS IS where is. I can assist in shipping arrangements or can pick the winner up from the airport in Durango CO. The truck is in OK shape, but the body is 31 years old and the powertrain is 22 years old. It has and is going to have it's problems, please do not beat me up over this truck. The conversion is done, the truck just needs finished up. I did the conversion in Spring of 2010 and was diagnosed with leukemia that Summer. I never finished the truck and have put about 20,000 miles on since the conversion.
