Vehicle Detail
I will be adding lots of information and pictures within a day or so. Please be patient! The picture I'm including for now is one I took 8 YEARS AGO before taking the car to a "friend" of mine for a paint job including the repair of a couple small rust spots in front of the rear wheels and a small dent on top of the right front fender. I put "friend" in quotes because I told him January, 8 years ago, that I wanted it done so I could drive it to that year's "HANNITY FREEDOM CONCERT", which benefits the children of fallen military servicemen. Then NEXT year's concert. Then the one after that. Let's just say it looks less delightful now than it does in this picture. I will give you the full low-down and current pictures within the next couple days. I wanted to do a 10 day auction including 2 weekends so I'm starting the listing tonight. THANKS!On Feb-20-14 at 19:22:42 PST, seller added the following information: To be fair to the guy selling the red Centurion Convertible ending Friday, while my car WAS very nice before, IT IS NOT IN THE LEAGUE OF HIS CAR. Do NOT let my car effect your bidding on his. It's apples and oranges. On Feb-23-14 at 19:47:33 PST, seller added the following information: Hi again, and sorry I took so long. I finally added 23 pictures that I just took today (Sun., 3/23). Also, with one of the questions I was asked, I couldn't get the answer to post, so here are both the Q & A: Q: Do you think this car can be driven to N.H. Thanks Murray A: Hi! The short answer is yes. Seriously, it drives beautifully. And, I've heard the words "Amazing" and "Unbelievable" from friends who know the story then watch and listen as I reach in through the driver's window and turn the key. BUT, it's been off the road for eight or nine years. It would be smart to change the fluids, filters, thermostat, lube it, and put tires on it. The tire's treads are like new, but they're old. I could work out a deal to do those things for the buyer. Thanks! Okay. You can plainly see the body work was started and that the car is pretty straight. It was never a rust bucket, but, as I stated from the start, it needed a little quarter panel repair due to a leaking top, and it had a dent on top of the right fender. No big deal. At that time, it was an easy job. But now it needs a good body man to do the full monty. If you look at the trunk picture without the boxes and with the mat removed, you can see the hole on the left side near the wheel well that I mentioned in answer to one of the questions. By the way, the boxes have trim pieces, new front shocks, new air shocks with installation kit, and some misc. goodies. The trim pieces you normally remove for a paint job are sitting on the roof in one of the pictures, as well as some other pieces like the Centurion soldier badge and the words Centurion in another pic. It starts right up, and when running, all you can hear is the whirring of the fan and the sound at the tail pipe. The engine is sweet. It has a quadrajet carb., and even the accelerator pump works after all this time. After warming up and at low idle though, it's not quite perfect, but still good. It's probably the fuel. The carb should be rebuilt just for good measure, but I kid you not, I haven't changed out the old fuel yet, or even added any new fuel. "Amazing" and "Unbelieveable" indeed. The tranny is perfect. No lash in the drivetrain. Quiet Differential. Smooth, quiet wheel bearings at all four corners. Tight steering and suspension. Okay now you're laughing, but that's because you're thinking about the steering box ratio. With the radial tires, it even handles nice, and it is SMOOTH. And no rattles. In the engine compartment, other than however far you choose to go with detailing, from scrubbing, or sanding, or media blasting, and paint or whatever coatings you choose, the only needed repair is the battery tray. With the interior, the entire dash area, upper and lower, is pretty much perfect. The controls are pretty good but could use some detailing and chrome stalks polished. Door panels are good. Seats not too bad but have been discolored and have a couple small tears. The carpet needs replacing. By the way, I have to update the options list. It has: 455, 4bbl., automatic, power steering, power disc brakes, A/C, tilt steering wheel, AM/FM radio, clock, power windows, power top, and adjustable speed warning, not cruise control or power locks. Thanks for your patience! On Feb-23-14 at 19:52:54 PST, seller added the following information: Oh, yeah. The convertible top works great. Raises, lowers, and latches nice, mechanically fine. But it does need new fabric top.On Feb-24-14 at 13:51:07 PST, seller added the following information: I'm putting this up here so everybody can see it. I got this question today: Your post is confusing, I said that because in the top post you got mechanically fantastic and then I read one of your responses saying the car needs this and that it's been sitting, tires bad, carburetor need rebuilt. So I'm asking you a question cause I would love to have it. Does the car run well and will it make it out of town on the highway? Hi! I would do the things I mentioned just because I think they are prudent things to do to ANY car that's been sitting for more than a year or two. That's me. Sorry if that's confusing, but, here's the deal: It hadn't been driven for around 8 years. I was angry as hell that my "friend" had it that ridiculously long and never completed the job. I figured the car was going to be ruined. When I originally dropped it off at that time, I did routine maintenance as well as put in what was obviously pre-ethanol fuel and fuel stabilizer. But did I think I was going to have the car purring like a kitten after just throwing in a battery, pressurizing the oiling system, and squirting some fuel into into the float bowl vent, choke and accelerator pump working and all. Hell no! But it did. Then I drove it around 15 miles to the building where I store some of my stuff and couldn't believe how fantastic it ran and drove. I purged the fuel line before I started it too, and it wasn't too bad smelling. I knew the car would run. But when I went to add some extra fuel I had with me, I'd forgotten you need a LONG transmission type funnel because of the filler being deep behind the flip-down license plate. So that drive was on 8 YEAR OLD FUEL! It drives great, but at warmed-up idle, it'll be smooth, then occasionally skip a beat, and back to smooth. Hello! The fuel is 8 YEARS OLD! I guess I was just trying to share my amazement at the Rock Of Gibraltar qualities of the car. Even the brakes don't pulse. Regarding the tires, how far do you want to go? How far WOULD you go on tires that old? I just looked at them a couple hours ago and didn't readily see dry rot, but there has to be some. Thanks!
