Vehicle Detail
Thanks for looking at our 1971 AMC JAVELIN AMX. This beautiful AMX is finished in the correct and original to this car, B8 Mustard Yellow as seen on the front page of the 1971 AMC sales brochures back in the day. For the numbers guys; AMC reports that 2054 Javelin AMX models were produced in 1971. Approximately 1025 cars, or half of the production run of Javelin AMX’s were equipped with the 360 engine. Some 360 powered cars were produced with the high horsepower 4BBL carbureted engine. Some of those 360 4BBL cars were produced with the Hurst 4 Speed Option. Could there have been more than a hundred cars produced with all of those options plus the Go Pack, with it’s Posi Rear End, 140 MPH Speedometer and rare Tic Toc Tach? A few of these highly optioned factory hot rods were produced in Mustard Yellow with the Split Vinyl Top. That was 1971. In 2013 very few Javelin AMX's remain in the wild at all. This is one surviving example of AMC’s days of glory torn right from the pages of the brochure. No tribute car or wanna be, this is the real matching numbers deal. All that hyperbole aside, we think this is one rare girl. AMC numbers are famously infamous so if we’ve abused anyone’s sense of AMC numerological history, we’re always up for a lesson. Let us know and we’ll correct our trespasses. Surely a large number of AMX were lost to accidents or the crusher as these cars weren’t considered rare back when the roads were crowded with competitors like Mustang, Camaro, Chevelle, Cuda, Challenger, Roadrunner and all their kin. Regardless of how you slice it, this is one of just a few cars ever built, it’s in excellent condition and you have the opportunity to be an owner. This 71 AMX is includes the following factory options: 360 CID V-8 4BBL 4 Speed Transmission (Borg-Warner T-10 with a Hurst shifter) Center Console GO PACK includes · Positraction · Power front disc brakes · Dual Exhaust · 15 X 7 Rally Wheels · E60x15 Polyglass raised white letter tires · Handling Package · Fiberglass Cowl Induction Hood · Heavy Duty Cooling · Hood "T" Stripe RALLYE PACK · 140 MPH Speedometer, · Full Gauge package including Tic Tac Tok (Tachometer and Clock Combo) · Rally 3 Spoke Racing Steering Wheel · Dual Rally painted Rear View Mirrors “TWIN CANOPY" ROOF with SPLIT VINYL TOP FRONT CHIN "AIR SPOILER" REAR LIP "AIR SPOILER" Mechanical Reconditioning The engine block lower end has been freshened. The heads have been rebuilt. All of the engine accessories like the radiator, water pump, power steering pump, starter, belts, hoses, plugs, points, fluids, etc are new or freshly rebuilt. Headers make there way to new flowmasters and a correct H pipe. She starts right up and sounds bad ass. The interior has been completely redone and includes the correct black carpets and black vinyl turtle back seats. A rare center console and engine turned dash make this AMX feel like the street fighter it is. The brakes have been completely gone through. A new booster, brakes lines and a full brake service were performed. A new parking brake cable was required and arrived yesterday. All new shocks were added along with new rear leaf springs, bushings and shackles. Modifications The following modifications have been made to this 1971 AMX: Edelbrock Intake manifold Hooker Headers FlowMaster Exhaust Aluminum Radiator Stainless Steel Fender Supports Engine dress up 15” Rally Wheels have been widened to 8” in the front and 10” in the rear. (A hot rod trick from back in the day to get more rubber on the ground) The build book with approximately 100 pictures, a complete package of receipts and a CD with the complete AMC parts and service manual is included. Every show and cruise seems to have a thousand variations on the Ford, Chevy and Mopar themes. Attend your next event with something many have never seen and all will appreciate. Yes, we will work with your shipper to ship worldwide. We are very familiar with shipping and have sold many vehicles on ebay. PLEASE ask your questions and/or inspect this vehicle before you bid. Yes. This car is owned by a dealer in California. We follow the rules. If you are not sure, please ask. These comments and questions were addressed in the original auction of this item. Miles… For the record, we have to state true miles unknown, the mileage exceeds the capability of the odometer, etc. While it may be correct at 134000, we think it's unlikely to have actual 34000 miles. Tires!!! An amazing number of people want to know what size tires are on this car! Front P215-70R-15 and Rear P255-60R-15 Pins? Yes, this car has all of the factory pins in place for the vinyl top trim. That means this car was factory equipped with the Twin Canopy Roof. Apparently there are cars out there with dealer installed vinyl tops. Park Brake cable. Yes that's the new cable in the picture of the rear seat. New AAA 700CCA battery installed last week. Thanks and good luck bidders! Q: As lifelong AMC enthusiast, thanks for good job on Javy. -wipers are commonly placed on backwards these days -seems everybody's doin it? but the more angled wiper arm should go on the driver's side to allow it to match up with the windshield pillar better when in operation... New cars don't have wipers that good anymore. Oct-13-13 A: Thanks We've gotten lots of email like yours from AMC enthusiasts and neophytes (like me) alike. Admittedly, there have been some pretty esoteric questions we have no hope of answering but we think she's an honest car. Not a perfect show car, perhaps yet, but certainly one of the few cars that ALWAYS gets a thumbs up and an audience from those in the know, whether it be at the local show or even here on ebay. It's sure nice to hear we got it right! Thank YOU Q: Do you take trades and cash? Oct-13-13 A: Yes but you must be local to 92626 and have your trade-in approved before bidding. Please submit a dated photo, VIN, mileage and any pertinent details in advance. Thank you! Q: * Do you have the title in hand and is there a lien on the car? As it is required to bring a vehicle into Canada. Oct-13-13 A: Thanks for your question and all the others from Canadians! Yes, we have a clear exportable title in hand. The zip code for your transporter pick up is 92626. It is a business address and there is plenty of flat, unobstructed load access for transporters. Thanks! Q: I have bid both times what is the magic number? you can reach me at *** Nov-20-13 A: Hi and thanks for your continued interest in our AMX! We are posting this question because we are getting many like it. Yes, this is the 4th listing for this car. On the first time through, the auction ended at $24,100. We were ok with that. There was a ton of interest, even this great article we found by accident http://bringatrailer.com/2013/10/29/tic-toc-terrific-nicely-optioned-1971-amc-amx/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=tic-toc-terrific-nicely-optioned-1971-amc-amx Unfortunately for us, the winning bidder danced us around a lot but refused to pay. Two brothers loved the car, but apparently the wife/mom said no. On the second auction, a bidder hit the Buy it Now for $24,750 less than half way into the 10 day auction. It was the same sort of game with the same outcome. After the requisite dance, Buyer says his life is too complicated to do this right now. He loves the AMX too but he just, cant. The car, meanwhile, hasn't moved more than in and out of the warehouse, waiting on a real buyer. Anywhere in between those numbers is our magic one. And please folks, if you would, please let us sell this nice car. If you can’t, won’t, don’t, shouldn’t, wouldn’t, ought not to, don’t have permission or don’t have the means; Are lost, intoxicated or otherwise incapable of purchasing an automobile with real money, please move on an allow us to sell our car. Dang that sounds harsh but c’mon guys, give the people who want, and can, a chance. This great car needs a home. Thank you.
