Vehicle Detail
This is a very tight, fast 240Z. Outwardly it appears to be a stock 240Z, this appearance is very deceiving but why mess with what is essentially a fantastically style. It draws attention wherever I take it, those that know 240Zs recognize its modifications those that don’t simply rave about its styling. The 240Z is one of those cars that everyone seems to have owned, had a family member or teacher that owned one or some other connection to the car. Sorry....just noticed the rear right tire was a little low on air which is why it looks off. A tremendous amount of time, imagination and money has gone into this car to turn it into a car that is as fast as it looks and the attention to detail for what was built as a “street driver” is impressive. The goal was a bullet proof, reliable high performance car. Other than the sound the only noticeable hint at what the car has for a power train is the large dual pipes coming out the rear. IF you think it is just a 240z with a v8 dropped in, it is not. The car is priced well below its build and the ONLY reason it is for sale is a recent property purchase needs me to raise some cash. You want any other photos, ask. If you want stock, move on and don’t even read the rest of this ad. This car will interest those of you who want a street sleeper which is exactly why this was built. It has given the drivers of some heavy street machines surprises when they can’t catch the 40 year old Datsun from the traffic light. That is why it was built. Now on the track, it is equally impressive and will run circles around my 911 RSR. Not often will you get a car viewed as lowly as an old Datsun that will stay with or beat the big boys on the track, strip or street. Even the wheels look relatively tame on the car. They are 8 inches wide by 15 with 225/50 tires (all with less than 2,000 miles) and fit on the car without any body modifications.I also have a set of 15 inch Enkei 92's in excellent condition with 225/50 Continentals....take your choice of either set.I am sure I have forgotten a lot so ask away. Body The sub-frame is based on the one found on the Hybrid Z site (ford V8 conversion. Mustang urethane engine mounts and fabricated the center section (the bridge between frame rails) to be removable for engine removal ease. Very tight car. The floors and rails were custom-bent using proper sized materials in the early 90’s because the aftermarket floors were not very good yet. I knew this would never be a show car so I fixed it with the idea of removing all the rust to make sure it never rusted again. The panels were replaced sealing every seam with a good quality marine caulking and then a base paint/undercoating to resist rust. As a result a nice solid car that has never rusted since and has stood the test of time. Behind the front air dam the air has been channeled through aluminum enclosures. Paint is Nissan 901 Silver which was the original color of the car. Body is all steel. Bumpers are stock and in great condition. Fiberglass aftermarket headlight covers have been matched to the existing paint. There are BRE style front and rear spoilers correct to the 70’s modified look. The rear shock towers are tied together with a roll bar which also has harness mounts. Engine Engine block is ’87 Mustang GT block, crank and Rods. Block is overbored .030”. Crank was polished and has new bearings. Rods were opened up on the small end to accommodate the floating pins that came with the Keith black pistons. The pistons were used to provide proper valve clearance for the Trick Flow Aluminum Twisted Wedge heads. A Ford Racing E303 cam was used and new cam bearings were installed. The aluminum Heads have 1.7 ratio rockers. Ford Racing High volume oil pump with new distributor drive installed. Felpro gaskets were used throughout. External engine parts include new water pump (ford racing) which is from an older style 302. The older style ran clockwise and the newer fuel injected GT engine had a reverse direction water pump. Engine has a GM one wire alternator. The intake manifold is an Edlebrock performer dual plane topped with a Holley 650 double pumper. There is an electric fuel pump mounted near the fuel tank. The fuel tank is from a second generation RX7, centered in the rear to accommodate exhaust so the spare tire hole is not present (been welded with a plate). The fuel level sender is the stock 240 mounted where the Mazda RX7 fuel pump was. The ignition system is a Ford Duraspark from an 85 Mustang GT. Distributor is from the same model. The radiator is a Griffin race Ford model. Radiator hoses are 85 Mustang GT. Headers are replacements for the stock 87 GT exhaust headers. Suspension The struts have been shortened to accommodate the lowered suspension so it doesn’t bottom out. The front struts are the Volkswagen rabbit GTI adjustable Koni D’s. The rears are Tokico illumina Datsun 240Z fronts. The illuminas are 5 way adjustable and accessed by removing the black cap on the strut tower. Adjustable aluminum collars on the struts are Adcos’ as well as Adco springs. These are the same ones used on race cars. The spring rates are printed on the springs. Virtually all the rubber has been removed from the suspension. All four corners have eccentrics at the inner pickups for camber adjustments. Compression rods in the front have nylon ball and aluminum socket. Sway bars, front is 1 and 1/8” and rear is 7/8”, both have poly urethane bushings and end links. Stainless flex brake lines all around. The front brakes are Wilwood 11 ¾” vented rotors with custom adapters for the stock calipers that have been split and widened. Metal Master stock 240 pads. If you should need to replace a caliper just order a new one then take the old one and take it apart and use the spacers and O-rings in the new caliper. If O-ring needs to be replaced use a Parker O-ring that is compatible with brake fluid. Rear brakes are the stock 240 drum setup. With big front brakes it was not necessary to upgrade the rears. It has a very firm ride and handling is so much better than stock they can't be compared. Transmission/Clutch The clutch is a Wilwood master 7/8 connected to the Wilwood clutch slave with a stock Mustang throw out bearing. The clutch is stock Mustang GT. The driveshaft is a Dana. It has the stock mustang slip yoke on the transmission and stock mustang at the differential end. An adapter plate is fitted between the drive shaft and differential. Transmission is a Ford T-5 unit with a stock shifter. Interior The door panels, headliner and vinyl in the car are original in very good condition. The seats are Recaros’ in red to match. There is a dash cover colored to match the interior. Carpets are in good condition. The tachometer is an aftermarket Sun unit. I have a pair of Supra seats that are also fitted for the car and purchaser can choose either pair. The Supra seats are black/gray with contrasting red stitching. Stock Datsun steering wheel. Exhaust Complete 2 ½ inch dual system with crossover. Awesome sound! I work with a local shipper able to deliver anywhere in the USA, will handle the border crossing and delivery at a very reasonable rate. Had a question on the dash, yes it is a 280Z full cover which has been colored to match the original interior. Yes it has a fuel pressure gauge mounted just forward of going into the carb. Electric fan is controlled my a manual switch on the console. It has been wired for the fan to be thermostat controlled but I added the manual override out of preference. There are not any cracks or scratches in the glass and the windows operate as they should. Signals, lights (H3) work.
