A true barn find, 1981 Spirit GT. Has a fresh and clear title. This is an unmolested car, original factory equipped with the GT package. Has been repainted once a number of years back. This car has been garaged since purchased by the second owner in the early 1990's. Very little use in the last 5 years but was well stored in a dry concrete floored barn; no mice or pest damage. The weather stripping, interior carpet, interior plastic are all amazing and lack the sun damage seen on most Spirits. Has A/C, tinted glass, and rear window defogger and the factory GT package ("spoke styled wheels, sport steering wheel, dual black remote sport mirrors, black bumpers with nerf strips and guards, European blackout exterior accents on grille, trim mouldings, venturi area and taillamps, dual black paint stripes, G.T. medalions, tachometer".) 95,063 miles on the odometer. Car had been sitting several years as the second owner is deceased and we acquired the car from his family. No frame rust, no floorpan rust, one samll rust through area on left rear quarter as pictured. Runs and we have driven it in our yard but limited by no brakes; needs a new master cylinder which we are providing with the car. Car cannot be driven away so buyer must tow or trailer it. This car has many possibilities. Keep it stock and do a complete restoral. Perfect candidate for an AMC V-8 conversion. We also have the V-8 crossmember, rearend, transmission, and 304 V-8 from another car which we can offer you. It would also make a great beginning for a Spirit drag race car. INTERIOR: Original black Spirit GT complete. Very good condition overall. Driver seat has cracks as pictured. Both remote mirror controls work well. Black carpet is amazingly non faded due to indoor storage and tinted glass. Gauge package all there in center console/armrest. Rear seats and rear carpet area excellent with original spare cover and jack. Plastic gates on floor shift needs to be re-attached but shifter operates fine. Has original AMC floormats both sides front. Right front carpet has a white stain near the kick panel; looks like latex paint spill not fully removed. Headliner sagging as the adhesive to the pad has dried out. EXTERIOR: Appears to have had one quality repaint many years back in red nearly matching original. Overall pretty good finish still as it has depth and shine. Some scratches on hood and some bubbles forming. Particularly on left side and as pictured, has been splattered with what apprears to be white latex paint. This can be safely removed with some effort. Rubber window seals, whiskers, and mouldings all excellent. All glass good, one very small chip on passenger side of windshield. Front valence has been dented. We have a used replacement which goes with the car. MECHANICAL: Rolls fine and brake shoes / calipers, driveshaft and rear all look fine. Master cylinder had corrosion inside and currently no brake function but we are providing the correct replacement master cylinder with the car. Starts and runs fine and we have driven in our yard. No smoke no rattles. Appears complete and unmolested under hood, wiring harness, dash, etc. TERMS: No PayPal. $300 deposit to be mailed to us via personal check. Balance due in cash at time of car pick-up. Car must be picked up within 14 days. QUESTIONS REGARDING THE STATED MILEAGE AND TITLE: We have a clear July 2013 Maryland title showing 125,742 miles for the car, and a bill of sale, in the name of the grandson from whom we bought the car. Here is what we were told by the grandson. (NOTE: In Maryland, any car 25 years older can be registered as a historic vehicle. To do title work, no inspection is needed and the car does not have to be with you at the DMV.) His grandfather died with the car titled only to himself. Somewhere in the process of getting the title transferred to his heir (grandma) so she could gift it to the grandson, they went to the DMV but had not written down the odometer reading. They had to fill something in for the title transfer and did not want to make another trip back to the DMV so they did the logical thing and "shot high" and picked 125,742 for the mileage on the new title. The odometer reading of 95,063 looks accurate to us given the condition of the car and no vsible signs that the speedometer cluster or the speedometer cable have been disabled.
