This has been a very reliable commuter car for me since 2005. Mainly driven on long trips. Last on the road in December, it has been in my driveway waiting for restoration but I have too many other projects. Sorry to see it go! This is a perfect car for an ambitious teen or someone into VW's or wanting to do a swap / part-out. It has high mileage and will need some maintenance to be a reliable daily driver. It is however a reasonably solid car and can be driven away. Condition: Engine: Runs Strong. In 2008 the original engine lost a timing chain (122K). I replaced the engine with a low mileage used one and did all the external parts at that time including a new timing chain. I also replaced the AC compressor, water pump (and hoses), motor mounts, clutch and essentially made the engine compartment new. Current engine has autotech sport cams, lightweight steel flywheel, and high performance ignition. It revs nice and makes great power. It starts well. Last time I had it on the road it wasn't showing any engine codes (OBD2 or otherwise). Cooling System: Doesn't overheat, to my knowledge it never has. Very small coolant drip requires a quart of coolant every month or two. I can't find the leak. No known head gasket issues. Transmission: Shifts OK. Clutch seems fine, disengages well and is light, doesn't slip. Original transmission. Mostly highway miles means I don't use much clutch or shift much. Axles seem to be in OK shape, no popping. Cruise control stopped working because the engagement button on the stalk isn't functioning (common), replacement included. Exhaust: original exhaust, seems to be leaking around the end of the downpipe / catalytic converter area, started while sitting, car sounds sporty but there is definately a leak. Body: Some light corrosion by the lower front rocker panels. Some dings and dents (shown in pictures). Recently polished, could use a wax. Overall in good condition for the age. Underside is in good shape, no significant corrosion. New windwhield 2 years ago. Door locks work but drivers side lock tumbler is loose. Remote entry stopped working, may need a battery. Plastic under-trays have been removed and unfortunately lost. I have a couple pieces but not the entire set. They are not necessary ( haven't had them for last 150K). Battery: Starts with a fresh charge but needs to be replaced Tires: 15" "touring" type tires on 4 year old rims. They will probably pass inspection but they may need to be replaced in the next year or before winter if you drive in snow. Suspension: It drives OK, struts were replaced with sport adjustables around 100K and have held up well. Probably needs front swaybar bushings / links as it will knock a little over uneven bumps. very smooth on the highway. Brakes: Brakes are ATE slotted rotors with Hawk pads. While parked they have developed a pulse which will need to be checked out. Should be plenty of life left. Emergency brake cable has frozen while sitting, e-brake doesn't currently work. Radio: Nice blaupunkt head unit with CD player. Sirius stopped working 2 years ago, not sure what happened. Sounds great, speakers are in good shape. Shipping: Pick it up (in person) with the remainder of the balance. be prepared to go to the DMV to transfer title. I can trailer this car within a reasonable distance of the Allentown / lehigh valley area, contact me with any special request you may have. $2.00 per one-way mile from EASTON, PA . I REQUIRE that the new owner register the vehicle in their name via a temporary transfer tag or a permanent PA plate. I will go with you to the local tag agency and sign in front of the agent. Inspections: I encourage all buyers to come inspect the car prior to auction end. If you come to pick it up and have buyers remorse I will keep your deposit, but you are not obligated to buy the car.
