For sale is a 1985 BMW R80RT in exceptional shape with less than 35,000 miles. I’m the second owner and have owned the bike for the summer. The original owner had a non-motorcycle related injury that prevents him from riding any more. I’m selling the bike to “thin the herd”, as it were. I had the bike inspected and serviced at the end of July and had the battery, fork seals, fork fluid and gas cap replaced. The oil was changed less than 1,000 ago. It runs really well. The tires and brakes have plenty of life left in them. 1985 was the first year for the rear monoshock on the R Series BMWs, a big improvement over the previous twin shock setup. The bike puts out 50HP, has a five-speed transmission, shaft drive and weighs 500lbs. The fairing is incredibly protective, a brilliant design ahead of its time. The bike has never been down. The finish is dulled in various spots on the bike, there is some corrosion on some of the chrome, etc. but overall it’s in remarkable condition for a twenty-eight year old vehicle, not “showroom” condition but clearly maintained and cared for.
