Vehicle Detail

1967 VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE - CLASSICSUNROOFORIGINAL BLACK/RED COLORIN STORAGE FOR MANY YEARSCALIFORNIA CAR FROM NEWMATCHING BODY AND PAN NUMBERS Up for consideration is a 1967 factory sunroof Volkswagen Bug in black "Schwarz" exterior with red "Rott" interior. I am listing this vehicle for a friend and believe my description to be accurate. The car has been in California its entire life and has spent the last 16 years unused and in storage. The original owner was a collector of classic Porsche 356's. He kept this iconic California bug for several decades in his collection. This was the only Volkswagen in a collection of Porsche's and is an outstanding solid example that has seen little use in the last 46 years. It has been serviced and run on a regular basis but had very little over all use. Cosmetically this vehicle is in great shape for being 46 years old. The car was resprayed the original Black Schwarz. This paint has lots of clear, it can be color sanded and buffed to have a "show car" like finish. The vehicles does have the original Black paint on the dash, under the hood , under the deck lid, under the inner fenders, and the door jambs that it left the factory with 46 years ago. These items have not been repainted but are original to when the vehicle was new. The body is very straight with no signs of any previous collision damage or repair. The front, rear and rear quarter glass moldings are new. The door handles and trunk and hood handles are original and do have some imperfections. The bumpers and mirror do have some patina of being 46 years old. The body trim is German stainless. The car is missing the drivers sun visor. The floor is the most solid original example I have ever seen. The section where the battery sits looks as it did when new. This car has spent a easy life in sunny California and it shows. Why is Black "Schwarz" such a rare original color? The reason is most of production of early Volkwagens were light colors as most of the mass produced body shells were not straight enough to be Schwarz therefore the majority were white or lighter colors. When these cars were built a person would stand on the assembly line before paint and inspect each body for imperfections he made the decision of which color to paint. This is an original Schwarz Black car from day one. The combination of the Rott/Red interior make this a very desirable car. The seats are done in a much higher quality than factory material not your typical after market Asian material that most vintage Volkswagens have. This is more of a 1959 Porsche 356 than a cheap Chinese vinyl reproduction. All of the padding is the highest quality as you would see in a $100k Porsche 356. The seats are brand new and custom made by a well known upholster who specializes in Porsche 356's who has done many vintage Porsche's, some which have been sold for over $100,000. This is original German material that he has horded for years. The quality of the seats and headliner are of a much higher grade that you would see in a typical Volkswagen but more as you would see in a high quality Porsche 356. Be clear that a great deal of money was spent on the interior materials of this 1967 Volkswagen. The fact that it is a 67 Black/Red Sunroof car makes this a classic that should not be over looked. Mechanically the car is complete with original matching body and pan numbers. The fuel system is clean. The 1.5 liter motor fires right up and runs very strong. The carburater could use an adjustment as the idle when cold is a little rough but seems to clear right out when warmed up. The engine feels like a low mile example. The transmission which is unique to the 1967 shifts smooth in every gear and feels as a low mile transmission should feel. The tires are old and should be replaced. They hold air and will drive down the road however they are dried and cracked on the side wall and look to be from the 1980's. The car has Porsche 356 wheels. The brakes stop and operate properly however a service and possible inspection would be a good idea as they have not been used a lot in the last few years. The oil light on the dash is functioning as is the alternator light which stays on. The battery is brand new. I disconnected the battery while running and the car ran fine. I do think the alternator is fine but light is on. I have provided pictures of every angle of the this vehicle; exterior, interior, underneath, engine. The pictures speak for themselves and the amazing condition of this vehicle. Don't forget to watch the video and take this little gem for a test ride!!!! PLEASE NOTE THAT THE LICENSE PLATE AND LICENSE PLATE FRAME YOU SEE IN THE PHOTO DOES NOT GO WITH THE CAR. THEY WERE PUT ON FOR PHOTO PURPOSES ONLY AND WILL BE RETAINED BY THE SELLER. CHECK OUT THIS HEADLINER! THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE IS BETTER THAN NEW!!! IT LOOKS GREAT AGAINST THE BLACK "SCHWARZ" EXTERIOR! MATCHING NUMBERS ORIGINAL FLOOR AROUND BATTERY IS A SOLID AS IT WAS 46 YEARS AGO. THIS CAR IS AS CLEAN UNDERNEATH AS IT IS ON TOP!!! The car is in amazing condition with many original parts. The exhaust however is less than 36 hours old. CHECK OUT THIS VIDEO OF THIS CAR FILMED SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 8 2013 Thank you for looking at our auction.
