Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my 1953 Plymouth Cranbrook Convertible that I have owned for almost 15 years. This is an extremely rare automobile. Only 6,200 were built. I am 50 years old and have owned eight 53 Plymouths since I was in 7th grade. In all of my years of closely following 1953 Plymouths, I have only come across a half dozen 53 Plymouth Convertibles. I bought this car in Santa Cruz, California where it had lived its entire life. The car has been treated to a no-expense-spaired professional engine rebuild. In addition, the car received a COMPLETE Rhode Island wiring harness front to rear. As you can see from the pictures it is just about the most solid 1953 Plymouth convertible that one could ever ask for. The floors and trunk are truly beautiful and have been POR 15'ed, the only rust is in the dog leg areas on both sides and on the rockers. Replacement parts are readily available. The "X"frame is perfect, and as you can see by the enclosed photo, still retains its original part number stencil from the factory (part number: 1485155). The car has been kept in my climate controlled garage, under cover, awaiting my return to continue the restoration. In the mean time I have raised two sons, coached basketball, baseball, and grown a very busy Dental practice. As such, all I have had time to do is obtain all of the necessary parts to complete this car (most are NOS and stored in very carefully labeled plastic bins). The interior is complete (seats and door panels) and was carefully removed and could be reused as is or is ready for recovering. I spent a fortune having ALL of the chrome re-chromed, and it is safely awaiting reinstallation on the car. I have also spent the last 15 years and $20,000 combing Ebay, Hershey, and various other sources procuring parts to make this car absolutely 100% authentic (including even a NOS clock still in its original MOPAR box). A pair of fender skirts are also included. The car also comes with a set of VERY RARE NOS optional Wire Hubcaps, that in addition to being NOS, I then had professionally restored. They are the the finest set of wire hubcaps in the world. To top it all off this car is a factory Toreador Red car with a black top. Reality has set in. I am now faced with two sons in prep-school transitioning into two private colleges at over $60,000 each per year. The reality is I will never have the time or money to give this car the attention that it deserves. I am offering it here on Ebay for a very meager reserve.
