This is a 1957 Corvette sitting on a 1958 Corvette frame. This was an early manual transmission car VIN E57S100964. The car appears to have been a red on red combination, but I'm not completely sure. The dashboard, steering wheel, convertible top hatch and trunk are all red. Surprisingly, the instruments look to be in pretty good shape. The clock is date coded Sept 56. The Fuel/Temp gauge do not have a date code that I can see. The Battery/Oil gauge have a burn mark on the back which is shown in the pictures. This car has a one piece fiberglass front end that has not been attached to the car. It also has a hood which I believe to be original to the car. The hood has damage to one of the hinge attachment points (see pictures). Both doors have uncracked operating roll up windows with all latching mechanisms. The passenger door outer skin has been damaged and repaired. The body from the cowl back appears to be in original condition except that the trunk lid appears to be a replacement. Although not shown in the pictures, the seat frames are completely rusted out and are not salvageable. There is a convertible top frame that has the side mechanisms and the header bow, but none of the other bows are present. The convertible top frame is in poor but salvageable condition. The frame is a good solid 1958 frame with a VIN stamping of J58S101833. I have included a picture the frame stamp. This car would not likely be a candidate for an original type restoration, but would be a good starting point for a resto-mod type car. As you can tell from the pictures, this car needs a lot of work and would be considered a major project.
