1967 VW Bug Convertible Overview summary: This convertible (1 of only 7,597 convertibles made in 1967) is in mostly original condition. I have a "birth certificate" from VW that I can provide you if you would like. This is a good car to enjoy as-is or to restore to perfection. What is good about this car: 1. It was in garaged storage for 25 years from 1982 until I purchased in 2007. 2. It has the rare, and one-year-only, shortie retractable seat belts. 3. The deck lid includes the rare raintray. 4. It has the original owner's manual, tool bag, and jack. 5. The two sets of keys are original and open the doors as well as the trunk lock. 6. This convertible Volkswagen has what appears to be the original “Savannah Beige” paint job from the factory and it still looks nice considering the age. a. Caveats: i. The front driver's side original German fender was repaired ii. There has been touch up paint and there are some dents (please see pictures in link below) 7. The clutch, tires, brakes [all new drums, shoes, master cylinder, lines - the brakes work well], fuel lines, carburetor, fuel pump, engine electrical components have been replaced. 8. The seats were reupholstered with Wolfsburg West components to make it a fun driver. 9. I drive it to work frequently (50 miles round trip) when it is nice out. 10. The original engine and 4 speed manual transmission run well. I can keep up with traffic at 70mph. (please see video below) 11. The heater works and the heater channels are in good shape. 12. The horn, blinkers, reverse lights, brake lights, speedometer, hazard lights all work. 13. The windows are all roll up and down. 14. It was given 2nd place in class at the 2011 Phoenix Bugorama. This car is nothing but fun. I get constant compliments on it. 15. I have a clear AZ title. Known vehicle history: 1. It was purchase in Hampton, VA on 1967/03/03 at Kashouty VW. 2. It was owned by a NASA engineer for the majority of its life. 3. I kept a copy of the old title, it was issued with no liens on 1975/04/07 with mileage: 70,925. 4. The previous owner last registered it in 1983. 5. When I got bought it in 2007, it had 101,753 miles. The top needs to be repaired as the original top was cracked and in need of repair a. This car has the bead roll-channel at rear for the top cable, which makes it a 1967 1/2, a bit more desirable then early 67 convertibles because the top is somewhat easier to install. b. The frame moves up and down, but needs front bow repaired, headliner, & top. I estimate ~$3k to repair the top. 2. The floorboard has been repaired on the backseat floorboard and under the battery a. The floor pans are original and are useable; the seats slide back and forth as they should, the heater channels are intact. b. Please see pictures in the link below. 3. The original AM "All Transistor" radio does not work, but the dashboard has not been cut up or butchered. (Ebay has them available for ~$100 if you want that to work) Media: 1.
