Vehicle Detail
All photos are of the actual car being offered for auction and have been taken recently. A total of 29 photos, including shots of the underside can be seen at: https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=AF1A2FE6F6285DC5!5045&authkey=!AITiHWcUP27Ly6U The VIN is: WBAEE1414J2561305. The EBay site does not accept this number, but this number is on the car and on the North Carolina title. Just a quick comment before we get to the details; I bought this wonderful 1988 BMW M6 from the original owner in 2004 and have kept it as my daily driver, except during the winter time when it was garaged and I used one of my other cars. I sold it once before, but regretted it so much that bought it back after chasing the buyer for three years. I have other projects that need money so the M6 has to go, hopefully to an owner who will take care of it and appreciate it as much as I have. DETAILS It has always been my special car, and has been maintained on a regular basis by Korman’s, a nationally recognized M-car specialist in Greensboro, NC. It’s not a show queen; however the car is in great condition, looks wonderful with shiny paint, and drives very smoothly without any major issues. It was my daily driver whenever I came home on leave from overseas, and it has never disappointed me in any way. Some mild, but effective changes have been made to the car over the years. I lowered the car by 1 ½ inches with performance springs from Bavarian Auto, which really improved the handling without ruining the ride. I also threw away the original 15 inch BBS wheels and the miserable TRX tires, and put new BBS style 17 inch alloy wheels with Michelin 235/45/17 tires, which have worked out really well while maintaining a factory stock appearance. As can be seen in the photos, the tires are in excellent condition. The car maintains its original appearance, and never had a problem with tire clearance with the fenders or with clearing driveways or road bumps. The car has approximately than 147,000 miles on it, and I say approximately, as the odometer stopped working two years ago at the 146,000 mile mark. However I was overseas during the last two years, and the car has covered no more than 800 miles during this time. The interior started to look a bit tired so I installed new carpeting less than two years ago, and refurbished the front seats about four months ago with new leather on the entire driver’s seat and new leather on bottom cushion of the passenger’s seat The body is in excellent condition except for one small rust bubble underneath the rear license plate, and some small scrapes on the front spoiler. The dashboard has two cracks in it, and should have a cap installed. The driver’s side window has scratches in the glass from grit that got into the window felt. The exhaust system is BMW original equipment and is in excellent, rust free condition, as is the rest of the underside of the car. The air conditioning needs to be filled with refrigerant, which I will have done before the car is shipped. The extra underside photos show what appears to be a large oil leak along the bottom of the car. This is power steering fluid (ATF) that leaked from a worn hose and travelled along the underside to the back. The leak was fixed by a professional mechanic and is no longer a problem. I have a fair reserve price on the car that reflects fair market value. Out of respect to all the bidders in this auction, I will not reveal the reserve price until after the auction is finished. I have a clear North Carolina title for the car in my name, and to be honest, I will miss this car a lot. It is a driver’s car that will give years of reliable service, and I hope will provide as many great memories for the new owner as it has for me.
