Vehicle Detail

I want to start by saying that I love this car. I purchased this Corvette at the Bloomington Gold Show in St.Charles, IL in 2007 from a private seller. It was obvious that the seller was not a “Corvette Guy”. He was just a guy who liked cars, but didn’t really know how to work on or maintain them. Needless to say, this baby needed some TLC. After going over everything top to bottom, I found out that I had a really solid car that I could be proud to drive around anytime and to cruise nights and shows, and still had enough things that needed to be fixed or improved that I could enjoy several weekends “under the hood” making a good car even better. Since owning the car, I have made the following major improvements. New differential cover with stronger ears (the one it came with had two broken ears, which happens a lot with this car). New water pump (chrome). New exhaust manifolds. During this project, I learned that someone replaced the heads on this car with 1967 camel back heads. This helped to explain the extra zip this car has, which was a surprise for a 1976. I replaced all of the missing engine chrome and added some extra. I have all of the original parts that the car came with and they will be included in the sale. Last year I replaced all of the interior carpeting. At the same time, I replaced any missing or damaged interior pieces (except for the door panels). As you can see, the car has kept me busy, but I have really enjoyed it. Next on my list of things to do would be a new rear spring, new radiator and new door panels. None of these things “need” to be done, but they would be nice. This car does come with air conditioning, but it does not work. It was never a big priority for me as the joy in driving it is taking off the t-tops on a nice day and going for a cruise. There is also a small crack in the right front wheel well (see picture). Someone tried to repair this before, but did not do a quality job. This was on my list of future things to do. The block, transmission and rear end are numbers matching (pictures to prove). The only item that is not original is the heads as I mentioned earlier. I don’t have the original heads for this car. I have hundreds of pictures of this car. Every time I took something apart, I took a ton of pictures. These will all be included with the car. You’re asking why I want to sell this car if I love it so much. You’re right. This has been a hard decision that I have labored over since last fall. Both of our kids will be off to college this fall, and my wife and I would like to travel more. This is not a car for long trips! It’s great around town and for short trips, but we want to be able to travel a little further. So I plan to upgrade to a newer Corvette once this one is sold. The car is titled in Illinois, but is currently stored in a climate controlled underground parking structure in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. That is where you would need to pick the car up. That’s story. If you want to know more, please send me your questions. The pictures should tell the rest of the story. You’ll be getting a solid car that you can be proud to drive, will get a lot of compliments and will give you plenty to “tinker” with over the years. Enjoy!
