Vehicle Detail

General Information: Up for sale by owner is my pristine condition 1988 BMW 528E 4-Door Sedan with 5 speed manual transmission The exterior color is Alpine White and the interior is a classy leather blue. This Bavarian beauty has been meticulously maintained and it reflects in both the car's cosmetic appearance both inside and out, and also the smooth operation of the engine. The car has been closely observed and taken care of for its entire life, and has always been garaged kept and covered when not in use. The car has been kept in Arizona, a dry climate, so the car is completely rust free. Although the car does have high mileage, the average lifespan of the model is between 300,000-400,000 miles, and to the right collector or owner that knows his way around a car this car could easily see at least another hundred-thousand miles without any major repair, very possibly more. This quality made car can seat five comfortably, and gets 20mpg city/25mpg highway. The engine is an in-line six cylinder 2.7L 2693CC l6 GAS SOHC Naturally Aspirated engine that produces 127hp. This luxurious yet sporty sedan feels smooth when driven and is gorgeous to look at, and doesn't mind showcasing it's speed. The rare, German-made sedan was the last year BMW put the E28 model into production, and was only sold in North America as a Model Year car, meaning it was the first year it had been sold in North America. This makes the car even more rare, perfect for collectors and German car enthusiasts. Although the general consensus is that owning a classic, German made car makes it extremely difficult and expensive to find parts, I've found that if you just shop around online the parts are very reasonable and most online dealers ship directly to your house for low flat rate fee, or include free shipping. I highly recommend RockAuto .com, I recently changed a fuel filter for a total cost of $9 shipping included, and that was the more expensive original BOSCH part. Interior:Never been smoked inAll electric buttons and switches are workingThe air condition is in working good working orderThe leather seats are in good condition, no rips or tears. The seats show signs of normal wear, they could use a good polish.New JVC radio/cassette player, power antenna works (Stock Kenwood radio included)The front seats have original covers over them that have never been removed. -Comes with BMW anti-theft alarm system. -Comes with three original keys, and original BMW key fob with keyless entry (needs battery). Exterior:The vehicle has been garaged it's entire life, the paint is in excellent conditionAll chrome pieces are in excellent conditionAll rubber pieces are in excellent conditionAll lights workThere are a few small minor rock chips toward the front of the car, could use a touch upIncludes original alloy wheels, tires have approximately 25% of tread left Engine Compartment & Trunk:The engine compartment is in good shape, but not detailedThe trunk includes a full set of original tools, jack, and spare tire The car runs extremely well and when driven the car is responsive and the transmission shifts smoothly. No play in the steering and rides very smoothly. Engine Condition: The engine runs exceptionally smooth for it's age and miles. The engine is in sound working order, none of the vehicle check lights are on. No problems running the RPM's up or driving vigorously whatsoever, this car loves to be driven! The car does have an issue with cold starts that will likely need addressing in the near future. Upon cold starts the engine idles very low and the RPMs fluctuate until the car either stalls or warms up. This will continue until the engine is warm, by then the car will run extremely smoothly, almost like-new. The problem goes away once the engine is warm. I've looked into the problem and found that BMWs from all years experience similar problems and send their cars into the dealer to no avail. From my research I believe I've narrowed it down to either the acquisition of a cold-start valve being the solution, or a replacement of the fuel pressure regulator. Both are not extremely costly repairs, on RockAuto the parts are around $60-80 for the valve and around $100-120 for the regulator last time I checked, and with the including of the Chilton's manual on the car the repair could be done by anyone who knows their way around an engine. Anyways once the car's engine warms up the car runs beautifully, almost like new. I'd just rather not have any surprises for the buyer upon purchase. I recommend that whomever acquires the car either finds a solution or lives in a warm place or has a heated garage. This car is an absolute joy to drive, drives like new once the engine is warm. Vehicle History:All vehicle history from the time of original purchase is recorded and included in the auction The car was my uncle's, a collector who recently became a grandparent who had to raise his two grandchildren. He is extremely knowledgeable concerning German made vehicles, specifically classic BMWs. He bought the vehicle around 10 years ago from someone who spent a lot of their time "babying" the car. Years before that the car was sold to the owner previous to my uncle from a used car dealership in upscale Scottsdale, Arizona. The reason I'm selling is because I need something slightly larger that can tow for my family business, I'm in love with the car, but being on a small budget has forced me to sell. This Sale Also Includes:ALL literature original to the vehicle The extremely handy Chilton's manual that covers all part replacementFile containing all service records of the vehicle PLEASE: Read all before placing a bid. Also please feel free to send me a question, it's a big purchase so I completely understand if you have any questions or would like me to send you a few more in-depth pictures or clarify anything whatsoever. I do ask that whoever buys the car please take good care of it! Shipping is the sole responsibility of the buyer, but I recommend shipcardirect(.com) if shipping is necessary. Thank you very much for reading, good luck and happy bidding!
