Vehicle Detail
You are viewing a rare E30 platform BMW 318i convertible. Introduced in 1982, the E30 BMW is the car that originally put the BMW 3-series on the map (following the E21) – and on the continual “Best Driver’s Car” list. This car also essentially ushered in the phrase “sport sedan”. The 3-series quickly reached cult status with auto aficionados, and then global fame with discriminating enthusiasts the world over. To say that it is a ‘80s icon would be an understatement. The image from the movie Pretty In Pink is permanently etched in the memories of the’ brat pack’ generation (couldn’t resist inclusion of a pic, see photos). The E30 design was replaced with the E36 in 1992 in coupe and 4 door forms, but the cabriolet retained its roots through 1993. This, then is the ultimate iteration of perhaps the most popular 3 series platform. Molly Ringwald not included. The 318i you are viewing is a very nice original example, with very low mileage (just 5K per year), that runs great, has always been well maintained, and recently benefitted from a mechanical refurbishing that has it road ready for any destination. Following are a few highlights of the car along with some recent mechanical work performed: *All original books and manuals and both keys included! *Original tool and safety kit intact *Recent valve adjust and new valve cover gaskets *Recent transmission replace with low mile unit *Convertible top in very good condition, with crystal clear rear window (top is manual, much preferred to the troublesome automatics) *All fluids and filters checked and changed*Performance exhaust system, adds a nice throaty note (not loud at all) *Strong clutch *Great brakes *Excellent Falken tires *Very economical and fuel efficient 4 cylinder engine Overall, the car always starts right up every time, idles smoothly, runs great, pulls strong, and is ready to be driven anywhere. Mechanically, there are no known needs. The car has been driven over 1000 miles in the last month or so, with no issues whatsoever. Here is a link to a walk around video of the car: http://youtu.be/V-LGmEvMEpk Following are a few noteworthy considerations for the discriminating buyer. It is important to note that none of these take away from the current enjoyability of the car, just a few things that the new owner may choose to do to enhance, as he or she enjoys it: *A few random scratches and door dings, nothing serious. *There is some surface bubbling under paint along the rockers, has had some repair in the past, but the next owner may want to have professionally done, if excellent cosmetics are desired (very common issue on these, easy fix, see pics tried to capture.*Couple blemishes to the driver’s seat, relegated to isolated panels so should be inexpensive fix if desired. Otherwise excellent interior. *One very small hairline dash crack (see photo) *Left rear bumper guard cracked (photo). $45 to replace here on eBay. Please decide for yourself, PRIOR to bidding, if these little details, along with other occasional small issues or blemishes that would typically accompany a used car would bother you. I would say the condition and appearance of this car is more consistent with a 7-10 year old car with 60k miles, than a 20 yr. old with 100K. I encourage all potential buyers to come inspect the car in person prior to buying or bidding. Your bid is a binding contract. Feel free to call me with any questions or for more information. Car condition is subjective. I have owned over 100 Porsches, and am picky about my cars, but potential owners should decide for themselves if this car is for them. Car is sold AS IS, WHERE IS. I can help with very reasonable domestic shipping arrangements, but transportation is ultimately the responsibility of the buyer. International bidders are welcome, but please have U.S. funds and transportation arranged prior to auctions end. Zero or negative feedback bidders please contact me prior to bidding or your bid may be cancelled. Please only bid or offer if you are serious. Finally, feel free to email or call me at 574-361-5315 with any questions, more details, or if you'd like to make an offer. Good luck!
