Vehicle Detail
I purchased this in 2003. Restored in 1998 by pre-pre-owner, the history I have on it shows it coming from Alaska originally. It was in Washington state for the 5 years until I bought it. The paint on the drivers side has started to fade from the California Sun. The running gear was a mess of mystery parts when I got it. At Volks Authority in San Jose, I had the front beam and running gear replaced with reconditioned parts, a new freeway flyer transmission and reconditioned reduction boxes, and a beautiful 1776 custom engine installed. Dual Weber 40 IDF carbs, premium parts inside, oil filter / large sump and powder coated metalwork. I have 40,000 miles on this combo, and have been tracking the MPG for the last 8 years. Interior and underside is mostly POR-15 coated. Any rust holes that the 1998 restoration missed are preserved in POR-15. Interior is mostly fatmat coated and bubble insulation covered behind the panels. Westfalia style rack included, as well as a bunch of spare parts. This has been my daily driver for 10 years, it is still running strong. and is probably the nicest daily driver you could imagine. I showed it at Kelley Park for many years, but it never won anything. A bit more TLC and it could. The astute may notice the dash doesn't look right for a '67. The original restoration put a '66 front clip on. If you look inside the panels, it's not a perfect graft, hence this bus gets a "Very Good" rating, not an "Excellent". This is one to enjoy on the road rather than in the garage. Speedo and Gas gauge work great. Clock has stopped, I think it was working when I bought it though. Wipers only work at one speed, won't self-park. Missing windscreen washer. Signals don't self cancel. Hazard switch is not connected to anything (actually it operates the fan right now). Cigar lighter and extra switch on the dash. The extra switch is for the fan if I get around to wiring it up. Brake master cylinder recently upgraded to a new dual circuit late bus type using the CIP1 adapter - that's the first step before a disc brake conversion is possible. New brake wheel cylinders installed recently on front. New Electronic Ignition recently installed. Coil is about 2 months old as well. A few small chips in the paint all round. Keys : All exterior handles have the same, correct 1967 year key. The ignition switch has a different earlier year style (because of the front clip graft). I have a correct 1967 ignition switch and had it re-keyed to match the exterior handles, but I never installed it - it may need some modifications of the steering cluster to fit VIN and other details shows this is an early 1967 model year, no reverse lights. Clean California Title. Many More pictures and details can be found on thesamba web site, search for 21 window daily driver.
