If you allow time for all 70 Photographs (below) to load, you will be transported back to the early 70’s enjoying a very clean TR6 Roadster. The car is presented for auction here on eBay only with NO RESERVE. Designed with assistance from the German studio of Wilhelm Karmann in Osnabrück, the TR6 was the penultimate effort in a long line of classic British sports cars made by Standard-Triumph. The early ’69 and ’70 TR6’s are the most desirable years because their engines produce higher horsepower. One way to point out an early "6" is by the vent door on outside cowl (a nod to its predecessor the TR3 and TR4). Also, the bumpers have a much cleaner look without the bulky over-riders that were required on later models to meet US safety standards. Its successor, the homely TR7/8, has never really achieved collectible status. Thus, the TR6 was the last of the hairy-chested, body-on-frame Roadsters, with a brawny straight-six up front, preferably to be driven with the top down. With the average car's lifespan being about a dozen years and its attrition rate often accelerated by careless, second-hand owners, it'd be a nice surprise to find an example of the species that, despite being over 40 years old, still shines and sparkles like a late-model. The most likely place to unearth such a rare gem would be Southern California, with its mild climate and large number of open-air enthusiasts. The wonderful 1970 TR6 presented here is a true survivor. Built in January of 1970, VIN * CC51239LO* left the gates of Coventry England and over the years made its journey to Sunny, Southern California. A stack of documents, Repair Manuals, Owner’s Book, spare parts and accessories (all included) provide insight into the previous owner’s passion for tinkering and preserving this TR. The car was driven sparingly as a weekend-only toy and pampered like a favorite child. Let's have a closer look now. Exterior: Some years ago, the car was refinished in a nice, driver quality in its original, Signal Red color (code #32). The buttery finish has a few small dings, chips and rust bubbles but otherwise looks great. The Amco luggage rack on the rear boot-lid is a very nice feature on these TR’s. Rubber seals are dry but in sound condition and the chrome still shines. Everything has a warm patina from the California sun which adds to the charm of this sexy “6”. The original style convertible top with reflector trim has a miniscule tear and the rear windows are fogged but the zip-down feature still functions well, allowing fresh air (or a surf board) to come through. Due to their age, these vintage, MICHELIN 185-15 redline tires may need replacement for the next long trip, but they are genuine artifacts and any true collector will appreciate their wonderfully preserved state. Riding on refinished, 6J x 15" factory steel rims with chromed lug nuts, center caps and aluminum beauty rings, wheel detail is amazing. Speaking of detail, let us stress how immaculate the body is, how sparkling the chrome, how buttery the paint: if you wouldn't know differently, you'd think to be looking at a 3-year old, not a 43-year old car. This one is that clean! While we’re down on one knee inspecting things below, let’s have a look underneath. After nearly four decades, some areas of the body and undercarriage were suffering from cosmetic issues and had become rusty. It is evident that - some years ago, the body and undercarriage were repaired. The frame was reinforced with steel plates to restore support and a sound-deadening, undercoat was applied to protect things below. Above, some evidence of body filler can be found in the sheet metal. Most importantly, the car is structurally sound, has a solid feel and there is absolutely NO evidence of major collision repair or any other mishap that would cause the enthusiast sleepless nights. Super-close-up photos are rarely seen in eBay presentations. Most cars look great from 10 feet away. We are including many close-up shots here so you can see EVERY flaw in order to make an intelligent, stress free buying decision. Let’s have a peak under the hood. Engine & Mechanical: The Triumph's immaculate engine compartment is 100% original. The 2.5-liter, six cylinder power plant inhales through dual Stromberg carburetors and exhales through a sport header delivering wonderful power to the factory-installed overdrive transmission. It sounds crisp and runs smoothly, like a turbine, with superb oil pressure, cold or hot. Surprisingly perhaps, the wiring looks fantastic, the car always runs cool, and there are no excessive noises or fluid loss. As a result, this TR6 is mechanically as strong as it is cosmetically. Yes, any TR6 can be a very tough and reliable automobile with a bit of preventative maintenance! We'll inspect the interior next, shall we? Though somewhat weathered, the black seats are as clean as can be. Brand new cut pile carpet and Triumph floor mats were installed to complete this interior. Not an inexpensive job, as it was very high quality work. The rear top boot is in outstanding condition and all the snaps are intact. The TR6's luxuriously outfitted cockpit is a world apart from the austerity of a TR3 or early TR4, keeping more in line with a Jaguar E-Type or Jensen. A true British Roadster must have a wooden dashboard, and the TR6 is no exception. A full array of SMITHS gauges all work flawlessly. A warm patina complements the silk screened, instrument dials. The factory overdrive unit is activated by a lever - just behind the turn signal switch. The original, push-button, AM radio guarantees pleasurable audio, even when traveling topless at speeds well above the double nickel; especially when tuned to 70’s classic-rock stations! Lower door panels are aftermarket but tastefully done with white piping. Let’s have a peek inside the boot. The carpeted trunk is surprisingly large and very clean. A custom Triumph pouch contains a treasure-trove of tools, chrome lug wrench and jacking equipment. Everything here is included, of course. Matching wheel with original, Michelin Redline spare tire resides in a separate compartment below the carpeted wooden partition (not seen in photos but is included). A typical TR6 weak spot would be the trunk floor. Out of sight and deeply recessed, it is usually the first place where corrosion develops. Things are different here! No rust bubble is to be found. A picture says more than a thousand words: this trunk is clean! Drivability: Invigorating is the word that best describes this TR6 experience. The Roadster runs like a cheetah on the prowl. Its suspension layout is intelligently engineered and the power-to-weight ratio is very favorable, indeed. In any climate, the powerful 6-cylinder engine starts every time, idles, revs and pulls effortlessly through the gears without unusual noises or hesitation and accelerates strong and smooth leaving no smoke in your rear-view mirror. Warmed up, the oil pressure ranges from a reassuring 50-75 lbs. at speed. Coolant temperature remains absolutely stable, with no hint of overheating even after extended runs at high speeds. Throwing this TR through the curves, the strong engine emanates throaty, lusty sounds. The heavy-duty clutch has a very firm pedal and the fully synchronized 4-speed transmission with overdrive shifts very smooth and precise. The fresh disc brakes anchor the car securely but with an occasional squeal. Handling is simple and superb with no rattles, shakes, shimmies or pulls. All in all, this Triumph is a thoroughly convincing performer and a joy to drive! Pound for pound, Triumph's TR6 is one of the finest, most fun post-war British sports cars. Being the last of the breed, a TR6 is a highly collectible Classic with fantastic appreciation potential, one that can easily serve as a reliable daily driver. To make things even better, the car gets 25 MPG on regular gas and is smog exempt in California. Reasonably priced spares as well as extremely affordable classic car insurance are readily available. Looking back, you realize that, somewhere in time, the chapter of the true British Roadster has ended. It has ended with the introduction of engine management systems; it has ended with the worldwide popularity of power steering, power windows, power tops, and power-assisted thinking, even in Her Majesty's Kingdom. It has ended with the Triumph. This Triumph TR6 however is up to any task imaginable. It could serve as a show car, a "new" old car to relive the good old days, or simply as a weekend driver during ANY time of the year. At the very least, no matter where you go, you’ll see a smile on everyone’s face, including your own. To state it succinctly: It delivers on its promise! Presently, we have a clear, California Title. CA tax, license and registration fees have been pre-paid through June, 2013. Local sales tax and DMV transfer fees apply to residents in CA. All questions must be answered and all inspections must be completed PRIOR TO BIDDING. Proof of insurance will be required for a test drive. Because this is a 43-year-old car, it is being sold in AS-IS CONDITION and comes with absolutely NO WARRANTIES EITHER EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED. Federal regulations now dictate that vehicles 10 years and older are exempt from miles certifications. We are proud to have 100% POSITIVE FEEDBACK.
