Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on a 1968 Ford F250 4x4 Highboy Truck. This truck comes with a California title and a few extras. In addition I may include the full factory Ford service manual (four volumes). Please take a look at the pictures and read the description. Should you have any questions please feel free to call me at 916-240-0846 or email me. My name is Scott. I am happy to help arrange out of state or overseas shipping. I'm told this has always been a California truck (near Sacramento). It was built in San Jose, CA. The truck was a daily driver until I bought it a few months ago. Below is a summary of the truck as I know it. I bought it because I love Highboys and planned to restore it; however, my wife wants me to sell it to free up space in the garage. In general, the truck is pretty much all there but needs to be restored. Exterior: The body is ok; yet, has a number of digs and small dents. It appears to be mostly rust free except for an area behind the driver door and some surface rust (see pictures). The paint is poor quality. The wheels are original 16.5" and are in good shape. The tires are worn. The front grill and headlight bezels are in pretty good shape. Tailgate works fine. All lights, blinkers, appear to work well. The Chassis appears to be rust free except for minimal surface rust (see pictures). Interior: The interior of this truck is dirty, has a seat cover (I'm sure hiding a worn seat), has some surface rust on the floor pan (see photos) and in general, should be restored. It still has its original dash, deluxe gauges, headliner, etc. All of the gauges are in working except for the engine temperature gauge and speedometer. The temperature sending is likely bad and I have a new speedo cable ready to install that will come with the Truck. Due to the non working speedometer, I don't know the true mileage of the truck. Engine/Transmission: This truck has a 360 V8. The truck runs/drives pretty well; however, doesn't idle very smoothly. I took it to a mechanic to see if he could get the idle to smooth out. He checked it out and said one cylinder is lower on compression so I have to live with the lumpy idle (like it has a hot cam) or do a valve job. He said it will likely run forever (can't kill a 360 was his quote). The 4 speed transmission seems fine. The transfer case goes into 4 wheel drive fine without a hitch; however, when I pulled forward in my driveway for the first time in 4 wheel drive, it seemed like the front axle had some drag when moving forward. I suspect something needs to be done to the front hubs or something else (it didn't seem like a gear problem, more like a quite drag on the front end)? I have never owned an old 4 wheel drive truck before this Highboy so I don't know what to look for. I have not had anyone look at the front hubs, drive. The hubs do appear to lock and unlock freely. The brakes work as designed, no pulling, etc. They are non power drum brakes. Wheels/Suspension: The suspension is stiff and bouncy. The tires are tired. I have nice 16" rims OEM wheels that I planned to swap to be able to have a better selection of tires. I will throw these in if you want them. The factory 16.5" wheels are in good condition. What the truck needs: The truck needs to be restored. This truck is exempt from being smogged due to its age (at least California doesn't require it to be smogged). This is an excellent chance to own a Ford F250 Highboy for not too much money. This truck would make a great project, restoration candidate or work truck. I am happy to answer any questions you may have.
