Vehicle Detail
I purchased this 1983 Audi coupe quattro (URQ) in June of 2010 in Virginia. I purchased it with the intention of a full restoration but plans have changed. Three kids in college have a way of putting a dent in a restoration budget. When I purchased the car, I was looking for a low mile, rust free, original URQ. It had 108K on the odometer, no rust and very original. The engine is not modified, wheels are original and the interior is original. I think it may have the original radio. The car has been repainted. I am not sure if the new paint was just covering up the original faded paint or hiding some repaired rust. It looks like the later may be true in a few small areas. The car first shows up on carfax in October of 1986 with 55,200 in Washington DC. From there, the car moved to the Charlottesville, VA area where I purchased it. If you are familiar with these cars you know they have some issues, parts are hard to find and not everyone knows how to work on them. This car is no exception: Exterior:The overall condition of the exterior is good. There are a two rust bubbles, a few bumps, scrapes and minor dings. The tires were replaced in late 2011. All the glass looks to be original and there are no cracks. The sunroof gasket needs replacing and the windshield wiper assembly needs attention. Interior:The overall condition of the interior is fair to good. The dash is cracked in several places, the rear shelf carpet is faded with non factory speaker covers. The radio works, but not all speakers. The condition of the seats is very good. They show there age, but there are no rips or tears. The power windows function but they are slow. One of the power mirrors does not work. The odometer needs attention as it does not function consistently (it did when I purchased it). The cruise control does not work. Mechanicals/Electrical:The two biggest issues with the engine is overheating and an inconsistent idle. The a/c does not function but the dash switch is engaged to keep the radiator fan running full time. In this mode, there is no overheating issue. Other than these two issues, the engine runs well and pulls strong. The engine consistently starts, even if not driven for a long period. The car rides and handles well. The steering is probably not a tight as it could be. The carrier bearing was replace along with the shift linkage, front rotors and pads. The other big issue is an electrical one with the turn signals and the headlights. The headlights work ( most of the time) but the turn signals don't work consistently. I have driven this car regularly since I bought it. Mainly just to work ( 14 mile round trip) and local errands. The electrical issue needs immediate attention so the turn signals work consistently and the headlights function properly. The state inspection expired in January and I have not driven the car much recently. Also included with the sale of this car is a parts car; A non-running 1986 white audi coupe. I purchased the car in running condition in March of 2011. The last time it ran was in the fall of 2011. I had planned to swap the dash and other various parts. This car is in good shape but is missing the front and rear seats. Also included are a few miscellaneous parts and repair manuals. The pictures of the URQ are from last fall, but the condition of the car has not changed. I have tried to represent this car as best as possible. Given the age and type of car, please consider inspecting and driving the car. I will do what I can to facilitate the sale if shipping is required. I have both titles in hand. Please do not bid unless you are serious.
