I know that people say this all the time, but you will never find another 1998 BMW 318ti MSport in this condition. It took me over 2 years to find one in near-mint condition. It has a completely clean CarFax. It runs like new. I’m only selling it because I was downsized after teaching high school for 22 years, and I need the money. I looked for this particular model for over 2 years until I found this car, than I upgraded it without molesting it. I wrote a description for this car 3 times, but I deleted them because I couldn’t bring myself to sell it. I bought this vehicle from a Euopean car dealer, but this vehicle has had only one previous owner (a little old lady…no kidding), and was maintained by BMW. She bought it from the BMW dealer as a leftover for a weekend driver, and it wasn't in service until late 1999. I also bought it as a fair weather driver. It has NEVER been raced and was garaged kept until about a year ago when I drove it from PA to its current location in Sarasota, FL, where I kept it covered until recently. It ran perfectly on the way to FL, BTW. It has always run on Mobil1 (synthetic oil). This is a very rare car. It is not to be confused with a standard 318. If you are looking for this vehicle, you already know what it is. If you don’t know what a 1998 318ti MSport is, here goes…. For one thing, in 1998, the engine was increased from 1.8 to 1.9 liters, and is more durable and has more torque than it’s predecessor. The 1998 is not to be confused with previous years. I have lived in Europe, and have seen these cars maneuver the most challenging of mountain roads. That is why I wanted one in the first place. When they were introduced in the US, they were a flop, because Americans did not see a BMW as a hatchback. Oddly enough, today’s 6 series is a hatchback! If you know this car, you know that these vehicles are extremely sought after today. Since the 318ti MSport with the 1.9 liter engine was only available in the US for 2 years, there are precious few of them, and most of them are beat. The good thing is that the 1.9 engine was available throughout the rest of the world for over a decade, so there is no problem finding factory parts, but you won’t need any! In fact, BMW has started exporting cars with 4 cylinders again, because they are exceptionally economical to drive and maintain. I owned a 530i, and although it was more luxurious, it was not as fun to drive at this car, and it was much more expensive to maintain. In addition to the usual 318 stuff, the MSport package consists of: MSport Front (w/fog lights), Side, and Rear Air Dams (not the usual ugly aftermarket kid’s stuff). MSport 5-Spoke Alloy Wheels. ZERO damage. MSport Suspension. Super Tight…as new (no Bologna). MSport exhaust / exhaust tips. MSport ROCCARO (made in Italy) sport seats with leather bolsters (ZERO rips or tears) – These seats are WONDERFUL. ZERO cracks in the dash as well. MSport (M-badged) EXTRA WIDE side trim. Looks great, but more importantly…they provide extra protection. Traction/Stability Control Package. Sunroof. I added/upgraded: Xenon Lights With Angel Eyes (not the cheap ones, and not FAKE xenons). New Windshield (the original one wasn’t cracked, it just wasn’t crystal clear).NEW power window lifters. The original ones were OK, but they were slow, and I didn't want to risk being stuck. The sunroof works perfectly, too. MSport Leather Shift Knob. The old one was OK, but I wanted perfection. New Roundels (Badges) front and rear (again, this was not necessary). K&N Air filter. I run ALL of my vehicles with K&N air filters. The benefits are increased power, and lifetime (1,000,000 mile) warranty. Bosch Charcoal Interior Air Filter. This is a non-smoker car, but I like CLEAN AIR. Believe it or not, this car smells like it’s new. Sony 10-Disc Changer (which I never used). California Wheelskins (the best) Leather Steering Wheel Cover (there is nothing wrong with the original leather steering wheel, I just wanted more girth…like a 5 series). The dimension of the wheel is truly PERFECT with the Wheelskin. Stainless Steel door handle and rear hatch handle covers (not the usual gaudy after market ones). I’m trying to think of what else I did…but you get the idea.Michelin Mats. This was not necessary, but I had the front air dam PROFESSIONALLY painted ($500+). It did not need it, but the few scratches on the underneath drove me nuts. I would not have had it done if I knew I was going to sell the car in the near future, since no one but I ever noticed it. In fact, I never would have done ANY of these upgrades had I known I would have to sell this car in a few months. BRAND NEW top of the line NAPA Battery…I bought it in 2 weeks ago. This car has never been raced or molested, and all upgrades/additions enhance the original beauty of the vehicle. I am a European car nut, and I know what these things are supposed to look and run like. This car has been meticulously maintained. I never thought I’d have to sell it, especially right after doing all of the upgrades. By the way, this car does NOT leak even a drop! The stains on the driveway are from my SAAB…lol! I would sell the SAAB and keep the BMW, but the SAAB has a hitch, and I don’t know where I will end up in the near future. SAABS are great (and highly underrated) cars, but ZERO fun compared to a BMW! The cutch is super tight, and shifts PERFECTLY…Like NEW…ZERO slop. This car is absolutely ready to go, and needs NOTHING. I hope it goes to an owner who knows what it is, and not just someone who is looking for a cool inexpensive BMW is near-mint condition. As much as I need the money, I am placing a reasonable reserve on this car. I hope the next person loves this car as much as I do, and takes good care of it, because this you will never find a 1998 318ti MSport in this condition again.
