1968 DATSUN 1600 ROADSTER ORIGINAL I purchased this with the intent of making a custom Roadster using a 302 Ford engine with auto trans etc. After looking it over carefully I've decided it is just to complete and original to hack up. I was told the engine was in running condition about a year ago and a head gasket has been recently installed. The engine turns over and has compression and spark to the points.Checking resistance on the coil shows it is bad so no spark to the plugs. I have a coil on order now so that will be included.It has new distributer cap,rotor,points,condensor,and plug wires already installed. After hooking up a battery I can confirm all the lights,windshield wiper,heater motor,radio,and turn signals all work and the engines cranks over fine.The carburator linkages all are free moving.The gas tank is good to go so I think the engine is very close to running condition. Fuel pump probably needs a new diaphram and it will need some hoses and a fan blade well. Wheels are all original and tires are in decent shape and hold air fine but have some weather cracking. The body and chassis is in good shape and there are no rusted out floors or trunk so common with these. The only rust through is on the trunk lid and front fender by passenger door. I would just replace them with used parts myself. The windshield is cracked but on the passenger side. Replacement for a good used one around $129.Hard top is in good shape and clamps down tight. Dash is cracked up but covers or on ebay for $119. I am amazed at how popular these are and how many spare parts are available. It is a great candidate for restoration and if you are familiar with the engine you could probably get it running with little effort. I will keep looking for one with a blown motor and rusty floors to make a rat rod out of. Battery not included as it is out of my Morris Minor.
