Vehicle Detail
1986 ASC McLaren SC convertible # 86-0049 I purchased this car thru an eBay auction 2 weeks ago (copy and paste below link in browser to see) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mclaren-/170986635883?_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&forcev4exp=true&autorefresh=true#ht_500wt_1182 The car was located in Miami and had been stored outside for very many years. After adding fuel, installing a battery and filling the flat tires and dropping the soft top, it started right up and ran well. I drove the car approximately 45 miles to Deerfield Beach without incident. The motor and transmission work well, very strong. The tires are defiantly bad and out of round. I recently had the same car stolen and was looking for a replacement . My car was recovered and I got it back so my plans have changed and this one goes back on the market. Over the years I have owned several ASC's and enjoy the car. It’s # 49 of 245 built. This car is original, no one has removed or modified any parts with the exception of front ground effects. Based on the car fax showing that it had front end damage I figured the bumper cover/ground effects were replaced. They used a Capri RS instead of ASC's (I prefer, more aggressive looking) I could not find any other signs of damage anywhere on the car or frame. The car is very straight with only one ding/dent (drivers door). From sitting there is some rust, 3 area's ( trunk lid , passenger door and cowling next to the windshield wiper arm on drivers side. The paint is rough, clear coat has lifted on most of the hood, trunk and fenders tops. Again this is original sickens oxford white paint left out in the Florida elements. The original MSW style McLaren wheels are in very good condition. All the lights and electrical work A/C system, even the tonneau lid pull down motor works. The Ricaro seat bottoms are very good, both headrests need to be redone,( if using ) and the passenger set back need re upholstery. The carpet is dirty and moldy. The original cloth top is also very stained and molded as well as the 3 plastic ison windows are out. The door panels are in very good condition and the dash has 2 cracks. The pecan wood trim looks very good. I had the brake system bleed and replacing 2 sections of rusted exhaust pipes. If you know the history of ASC and rarity of these cars the buy it now will make sence. If storage wasn't an issue I would hold on to this car...
