Vehicle Detail

Incredible California Built 1966 138 SS 396 Chevelle with Factory 4 Speed Transmission, Bucket Seats and Console One of my closest friends is the owner of this fine car and has asked me to sell it for him. I have driven the car many times and have done most of the work to the car since he has owned it. He purchased the car mid way through the restoration and we finished the car about two years ago. He hates to get rid of it, but needs to make room in his shop. This cool 1966 SS 396 Chevelle is a true 138 California car that was built at the Fremont California GM factory in 1966. It was originally shipped with Med Fawn colored (712) interior and a original exterior color of Aztec Bronze metallic (MM) The car also came with a 396 engine, a 4 speed transmission and a 12 bolt rear end. The car has been completely restored and the exterior color was changed to its current beautiful black cherry wine color. The entire interior is new and flawless, it is a high quality original style that is black the same as what was available in 1966. The motor in the car is not the original motor, it is however a 1968 vintage 396/350 hp motor from a 1968 SS Chevelle with the original 1968 100. CC closed chamber Oval Port Heads and the original 1968 350 HP GM (Holley built) cast intake. The motor is very fresh with less than 1500 miles since the build. I built the engine personally and can show receipts on every part that was use to build this awesome engine. The motor was bored .030 over, fitted with a set of Keith Black domed pistons (10.5 to 1) on heavy duty GM pink rods. The crank was turned .010/.010 with all new bearing, new HV oil pump, Mild Crower Cam, solid lifters, new timing gears and chain, new cam bearings, push rods, rockers and gaskets. The heads were milled and fitted with the correct springs and all new stainless steel valves. The M21 transmission was sent to a professional Trans shop that specializes in Muncie 4 speed transmissions. It shifts and runs smooth with no noise of any kind. The car is equipped with a new set of large tube ceramic coated Hooker headers, new twin Flow Master Mufflers, a new 700 CFM double pumper Holley carburetor, a MSD Soft touch Rev Limiter and electronic ignition/distributor and wires. This car runs very strong but drives and handles great, the cooling system keeps the car at a perfect 180 degrees, even when cruising the streets in the middle of a hot South Georgia summer. This car has been totally restored from ground up with just about everything on the car new. During the restoration, updated power disc brakes were installed on the front, an updated 600 Delphi 2.5 stop to stop steering box was installed with the OEM factory power steering pump, canister and hoses. The car is sitting on a set of 4 Corvette 15” X 8” wide reverse Rally wheels with new center caps and beauty rings. The tires are new Winston raised white letter tires 60/15 series. There are new shocks all the way around, the original 3:42 12 bolt posi-taction GM rear-end was refurbished and runs smooth and quite. It also has all new front ball joints, bushings, tie rod ends, end link and springs. (Note air shocks in the rear) The Paint on the car is very good and is a base coat / clear coat system, there are a couple of very minor road chips and slight imperfections but from 3 feet away, it is perfect. The body is laser straight and all body lines align very well. There is very good glass all the way around and all new weather stripping everywhere. I have included pictures that show the rear quarters still have the VIN numbers stamped in the trunk rail area. The Hood was replaced with a new hood due to a bend and repair that had been made years ago in the original hood and was just too bad to work and cover up, other than that all other body parts are original. There are no visible signs of rust anywhere on the exterior of the car and the interior is perfect. The car has an original type console, but has an updated Hurst shifter. The Speed odometer head is new and all lights, radio, heater, heater fan and gauges work flawlessly, including the set of new Auto Meter Gauges set to the lower bottom of the dash above the consol. This is a true 138 SS 396 Chevelle that was built in the Fremont Cal. assembly plant. Please see all of the features listed below. The car was restored about 4 years ago but the motor electronics and drive train were built and installed less than a year ago. 396/350 built motor producing over 425 HP 100 CC closed chamber oval port heads Crower solid lift cam and lifters Hooker Ceramic coated Long tube headers 12 Bolt 342 posi-taction rear end Newly built Muncie M21 4 speed transmission 15” X 8 Rally wheels Console with working clock Bucket seats Power steering New 2 wheel front disc brakes with rear drum brakes Excellent glass in front, rear and sides Excellent chrome and trims New Radiator Original type fan and shroud AM/FM Retro looking in-dash Radio Flow masters and exhaust Trunk mat with spare tire, jack and spare tire cover Custom, SS 396 loop pile floor mats With lots and lots more The cowl tag reads as follows: ST 66 - 13817 BDY BF 1980 TR 712 PNT MM ACC 18901 The car is being sold as is and I encourage you to review my feedback and come see this awesome Chevelle.
