Vehicle Detail

This is a 1970 Buick Estate Wagon -- a full-sized station wagon -- with the 370 horsepower, 455-cubic inch V-8 engine. Buick stopped producing full-sized wagons after 1964, and brought them back in 1970. NOTE! Please see the entire history of this car at the bottom of this description. The 1970 Estate Wagon is the last year of this popular body style -- it uses a two-way tailgate, rather than the "clamshell" retracting tailgate used in 1971 and later cars. Also, 1970 is the last year of the high-compression GM V-8 engine -- the 1971 and later engines were detuned to accommodate low-lead (and eventually, unleaded) fuel. This wagon weighs almost 5000 pounds, about the same as the Cadillacs that year. The odometer shows about 143,000 miles, but it has been around once, so the true mileage is about 143,000. It was stored inside for part of its life, but then unfortunately it was put outdoors year-round. As you can see by the pictures, the weather wasn't kind to this car --- there is extensive rust all around and even in the firewall. We haven't been under it so we don't know whether the frame has suffered. The front door locks are frozen so we couldn't get either front door to open. The car looks pretty complete, but it has been some years since it has been run and driven. The front wheels don't roll --- so we suspect that the brake shoes need some Liquid Wrench, at least. The back window was knocked out by vandals and then sealed off with plastic. The interior isn't bad, but needs a thorough cleaning and the headliner repaired. There are other signs of wear inside too. The back seat area has some extra parts also. This car was donated to the Buick Heritage Alliance (www.buickheritagealliance.org), a charitable and educational 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the preservation of Buick history. The donor expected that the Alliance would re-sell the car and use the proceeds for the educational purposes of the organization. Realistically, this car should be viewed as a project car or perhaps a good parts car.The car is located in Cleveland, Ohio, and may be inspected there by appointment. Please call our representative Jeff at 614-763-8001 whose office is in Dublin Ohio to make arrangements to inspect the car. The buyer will be responsible for storage charges beginning two weeks AFTER the auction closes with a winning bid. We'll cover the storage so you can get transportation arrangements during those two weeks. The car is being sold AS IS, with NO WARRANTY, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. Seller is not responsible for any defects, whether or not disclosed in this listing. We strongly encourage bidders to come and inspect the car first, satisfy yourself as to its condition, and bid accordingly. The buyer will be responsible for storage charges beginning two weeks after the auction successfully completes. The buyer is also responsible for arranging transportation.Thank you for looking at our listing, and we appreciate your interest.THIS IS THE HISTORY OF THIS CAR AS GIVEN TO US: 1970 Buick Station Wagon VIN # 460360Y110623. Model 6036, $5,382.17 This car was purchased as a demonstrator on June 20, 1970 and delivered June 25, 1970 from Brud Buick Corp of Norfolk VA to buyer Garland Morris of Newport News. At the time of purchase, there were 6,696 miles on it. Those miles were put there by a golf pro from Cedar Point Country Club of Suffolk, VA. He had been loaned the car to drive to Florida. All other miles were put on by the Morris family, 143, 006. At the time of purchase, a luggage rack and side molding was added. Later, load leveling shocks, a trailer hitch and a right-side mirror were added. In July 1970 the family took a trip out west and later began towing a 19-foot Thunderbird fiberglass boat. The car has never been in an accident and the 455 engine and trans are original. The folling have been replaced over the years in addition to the usual tires brakes and oil changes: timing gear chain, left lower ball joint, water pump, master cylinder, front wheel cylinders, and the carburetor and A/C pump were rebuilt. This car requires leaded gasoline. This car loved to cruise at higher speeds than the national 55mph speed limit posed upon it for many years of its life. It was not only a family car but was used long distances on several occassions to sights and national parks in VA-NC-TN-KY-MO-KS-CO-NM-AZ-NV-CA-UT-SD-IA-IL-IN-OH-PA. Highest price paid for gas was in Wendover NV when the poor family had to fork over 46.9 cents per gallon for gas....(!). The Tech Territory bumper sticker refers to Virginia Tech, the alma mater of Garland Morris and two of his daughters. This car was also used for trips to Myrtle Beach and Nags Head many times, Key West, Orlando, and down the Skyline/Blue Ridge Parkway and several weddings in NC-NJ-MO and NY. It turned 100,000 miles in November 1976 only 4 miles from home. Also included in paperwork found in the car is the window sticker, invoice when it was purchased new, and many extra parts in the back seat area of the car. The family hopes the car can be somehow saved by a car enthusiast in the hopes of keeping it from going to a junkyard.
