Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a low mileage 1999 Suzuki VS1400 Intruder. This is a bike rebuild project that my son and I started in our shop about a year ago. This bike belonged to a friend of mine. This bike was dropped in 2005 when it only had 5,315 original miles on it. It remained in my friend’s garage until 8/23/2011 when I bought it from him in the rough condition it was in after it was dropped. I brought this bike back to my shop and my son and I began the rebuild process. We have done a lot of work and spent a lot of money in rebuilding this bike to the condition it is now in. However my son has recently moved away to go to college and I myself simply do not have the time to finish this bike and bring it to the finished quality level that we had intended it to be. If someone has the time, ability and desire to finish this bike then they would have a really nice one of a kind ride when it is completed. THIS BIKE HAS A CLEAR STANDARD VIRGINIA TITLE AND DOES NOT HAVE A SALVAGE OR OTHER UNUSUAL OR SPECIAL TITLE! This is a summary and/or description of some of the work that we have already done and some of the new parts that we have purchased for this bike. We started by removing all of the parts down to the engine, transmission, front forks, front wheel, rear wheel and drive line. We removed all of the metal/tin parts including the fuel tank, front fender, rear fender, side panels and neck covers. We cleaned and treated the interior of the fuel tank with a top quality fuel tank cleaner. After removing all of the normal light rust from inside the tank we applied a cream sealer to the entire interior of the tank. After treating and sealing the inside of the fuel tank we sent all of the metal/tin parts to a professional paint shop and had all of them painted. We wanted to create a custom Intruder unlike any other on the road so as you can see in a lot of the photos we had all of the metal/tin parts painted a super bright Viper Red. The paint looks awesome! We then cleaned and polished the frame, wheels, engine, final drive and other parts. We installed a complete new Cobra custom exhaust system. Since this bike had been sitting for about six years we removed both of the carburetors and sent them to a company in Washington State that specializes in custom carburetion rebuilds. The carburetors were completely rebuilt, re-jetted and set up based on the new Cobra exhaust flow rate, desired performance and the average altitude (air mix) for the eastern United States. We reinstalled the carburetors once they were returned to us. Also, because this bike had been sitting for so long we cleaned all of the fuel lines and the fuel pump. We then tested the fuel pump by pumping clean gas through it to ensure that it was pumping fuel as it should. We installed a new fuel strainer and shut off valve in the bottom of the fuel tank as well as a new fuel pet cock. My friend could not locate the key to this bike when I got this bike from him so we replaced the key switch with a new one and we also replaced the locking fuel cap with a new one. The engine cover on the bottom right side of the engine has a small dimple in it from when it fell over. I had been watching for a replacement cover to replace the one that is on this bike. I purchased a new gasket (will be included here) for this cover but the last time I checked I had not found a used cover that was worth putting on this bike. What I found the last time I looked was that they all had some type of chrome issues worse than the one that is now on this bike. I figured that I would just get a new cover and put it on when the bike was done. We replaced the four old turn signals with four new turn signals. We purchased two new cruiser style mirrors, new spark plugs, a set of new custom hand grips, a new chrome clutch and front brake reservoir cover, a new set of saddle bag guards and a new set of Suzuki Intruder Saddle Bags which cost around $260.00. I also have a leather fork bag that will come with this bike. We changed the engine oil and the final drive oil. We installed a new battery in the bike but have not attached the positive cable. The front and rear tires appear to be the original tires that came on this bike when it was new so they both have 5,315 miles on them. There is no sign of any dry rot or damage of any kind on these tires and as you can see in some of the photos they still have a good amount of tread life remaining. This bike has always been garage/shop kept since we have had it. As you can see the seat is in great shape as well as the backrest. When this bike is finished it will be worth more then twice the amount that someone will pay for it here in this auction. I believe that most of the parts that you need to complete this bike are here. However, there may be a few small items that you may need as you complete this build. My friend started to disassemble this bike before I got it from him. When I got the bike from him a lot of the parts were in boxes so I don’t know if there are any small items missing like nuts, bolts and other finishing items. Please look carefully at the photos because what you see is what you get. There is however one Item that I did not include in the photos. I have two cruiser style windshields that will fit this bike. I will include your choice of these windshields with this bike to anyone who chooses the Buy-it-now option. This bike is being sold in this auction As-Is Where-Is with no warranties or guarantees expressed, implied or promised by us (the sellers) to the winner (the buyer) of this auction. Like we said: look carefully at the photos because what you see is what you will get! PLEASE NOTE – I PERSONALLY HAVE NEVER HEARD THIS BIKE RUN. TO DATE I HAVE NEVER TRIED TO START THIS BIKE. WE PUT SOME GAS IN THE FUEL TANK TO MAKE SURE THAT THE NEW STRAINER/SHUT OFF VALVE DID NOT LEAK BUT WE DID NOT OPEN THE GAS FLOW FROM THE TANK INTO THE FUEL LINES, FUEL PUMP, CARBURETORS AND ENGINE. WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE WERE READY TO START IT UP BEFORE WE LET THE GAS IN. My friend assures me that this bike was running like new up until it was dropped! He is a very honest man and I would not have done all of the work that I have done nor spent all of the money that I have spent on it if I had even the slightest doubt that what he says is not true. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET A GREAT DEAL ON THIS BIKE AT A PRICE THAT IS WELL BELOW WHAT I HAVE ALREADY SPENT ON IT. NOT INCLUDING ALL OF THE HOURS MY SON AND I HAVE PUT INTO IT TO THIS POINT. IF THE RESERVE PRICE IS NOT MET THEN I WILL SIMPLY PART IT OUT AND SELL THE PARTS INDIVIDUALLY WHICH WILL BRING EVEN MORE THEN WHERE THE BUY-IT-NOW PRICE IS SET! When you see this bike I do not believe you will be disappointed! This bike is located in Brightwood, Virginia. Brightwood is located on Route 29 approx. 30 miles North of Charlottesville, Virginia.
