Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a beautiful car. The Original Hardtop model ER, 5 passenger, 147,099 made, Engine standard 6 cylinder, L head 50 horsepower. Specifications 113" wheelbase, 5.25 / 21 tires. Highlights - locking steering wheel( and you thought that was a new idea). Original price $1145.00. Was restored 16 years ago and was never a trailer queen. We drove it everywhere and has normal road wear, stone chips etc but nothing major. We enjoyed cruising and doing car shows. Always wins first place, some second, never third. You get the thumbs up when driving and has the original big horn old car sound. Drove great(no power steering) and speeds at 40 - 50 miles per hour. 2 wheel mechanical brakes work well and if you stand on the break pedal will skid the tires. Now for the bad news. I changed the oil every spring regardless of the mileage. Holds 7 quarts, 30 weight recommended. We were going to a car show when the engine started making a ticking noise. I looked at the oil gauge and the oil pressure was fine. The ticking became louder and then the engine was making a knocking noise. I immediately pulled over and shut the engine down. Checked the oil was full. Waited a hour and restarted was fine. After a couple minutes the ticking started then the knocking. Turned it off call a wrecker. Took it home left it in driveway and took our car to show. Came back in 6 hours, started, pulled in garage then the knocking started. Turned off. I talked to people from my Studebaker club and some old timers told me what the problem is. They said back then engine bearings were not used and babbitts were. The engine has to be pulled, torn down, new babbitts are made and reassemble. We have such a place where I live that does this kind of work. I bought a complete engine overhaul gasket set. The car has set for a little over a year in my climate controlled garage. I have decided not to do the job and let a younger guy do it. I have the complete manual for this car and will include that to help you with this job. Over the years I bought on Ebay engine parts from a car exactly like mine. The engine had 15,000 miles on it and I have all internal parts in boxes. I was also able to get the block, starter, generator, complete rear axle, 2 complete carburetors and many more parts I can't remember. You will be bidding on the car only and you will be responsible for pick up in person or shipping charges. If you want all the parts I will work with you on price. I will sell everything for what I paid for it. Not wanting a profit just want to help you out. Some things were a bargain like the complete rear end $35. Others were not like the starter $450. But after all you do not go to your local parts house and say I need a part for a 1925 Studebaker. I also have a Haulmark enclosed car trailer you can purchase too. Thanks for taking the time to read all this. Wanted to explain the issues with the car. Hoping a Studebaker enthusiast or a mechanically inclined person gets the car. Want to put it back on the road to have fun with and educate people what a great car this is. The wood spoke wheels get a lot of looks. If you have any questions you can call me Bill @ 513 - 659 - 0677 9am - 9 pm, Central time. Good Luck to all bidders.
