Vehicle Detail
Up for bid is my 1981 VW Rabbit Pickup Truck LX model with 70867 original miles. It has a 1.6 liter diesel, 5 Speed manual and runs fine. I am the third owner for about 6 years now and have put around 2K miles running errands around my farm. I have since retired from farming and no longer need use of the truck. I purchased the truck from a WWII disabled veteran retired in Pennsylvania who used it for fishing expeditions and general driver. The truck has the original interior, original floor mats, mud flaps, hub caps, chrome wheel rings, and manual. The truck comes with a locking bed cap, crank side windows, 4 extra VW wheels and tires, and 3 extra chrome wheel rings. There is also a set of mounted working Subaru fog lights. The tires have about 50-60% tread, one tire in the extra set is bad and still mounted on rim. Cosmetically, it looks like a 31 year old truck with original paint with slight surface rust around rocker panels and wheel wells. The cab headliner is starting to come unglued around the edges and there is a small tear on the driver seat where the stitching has come loose, there is a rust hole behind the wheel on the driver’s side about the size of a nickel (see pictures). The tail pipe is broken off after the muffler clamp, but can easily be replaced and there are two small dents in the tailgate (see pictures). The previous owner had the timing belt and tensioner replaced at 65731 When I purchased the vehicle it was completely gone through mechanically- marginal trans-axle boots and radiator hoses were replaced, brake manifold replaced, rear brake shoes, wheel bearings and seals replaced and drums turned. Flexible brake manifold mounted on center of rear axle replaced along with majority of brake hardline and rear shocks. Hood release cable was replaced, also removed old wiring for cb radio previous owner installed. 6 months ago the starter was rebuilt. Last month- replaced battery (diesel grade), oil change (mobil delvac) 10W 30 and filter. Flushed cooling system and new anti-freeze. The engine runs strong and transmission shifts smooth and I have had no problems with injector pump or glow plug system, consistently gets 48 to 50 mpg hwy.. This truck would always start in the barn during 20 degree days if the battery had good charge. There is no broken or cracked glass and the cab has a rear sliding window. Heater and defroster work as they should. All interior cab, AM FM radio, dash and exterior lights work except for glove box, also has functional air horn ( don’t think this is original). Front strut towers are solid- appear to have been undercoated a while ago, floor pan is solid too. The hood and doors all fit & shut properly. Vehicle is located in Central Ohio, just north/west of Dayton, OH 45309. Personal inspection is encouraged. The vehicle can be delivered to the winning bidder at the Dayton airport if needed. I can also meet a shipper at the interstate truck stop to load up the vehicle if buyer arranges shipping. I might be able to deliver within a few hundred miles for $2/loaded mile. Buyer must arrange shipping to his desire. This is a used vehicle sold as-is, where is. I have done my best to describe it accurately. There is no warranty of any kind. Truck is for sale locally. This is an absolute auction. There is no reserve. The auction will not be ended early for a lowball offer. Please bid whatever it's worth to you. Thanks for looking! On Dec-16-12 at 12:27:17 PST, seller added the following information: Cleaned truck up and drove for last time today and noticed the temperature gauge didn't register-- bought new sensor and installed, but did not fix problem. I don't have time to track down problem but suspect it is up in dash around gauge or dash connector. Thought everyone considering truck should know.
