Please allow time for all 99 photographs to load and carefully inspect as great cars such as this rarely come along. The Jaguar XK-E is considered among the most recognizable classic sports cars in the world. Uniquely pedigreed, the “E” -Type stems from the marque's fabled 1950s Le Mans racers. The unparalleled heritage of "C" and "D"-Types carried with it a cachet that is unsurpassed to this day. Introduced in 1961, the E-Type was both powerful and stylish; not only rolling eye candy on Sunset Boulevard, but also a seriously muscled Mulholland Drive contender. Unfortunately in the late 60’s, US DOT and EPA imposed ever-tightening emission requirements which emasculated the straight-six-powered, Series II "E". Fortunately, the design team around Harry Mundy, Jaguar's executive director, struck-back forcefully and stunned the public with the exotic, 325-horsepower, 5.3-liter V12 engine, first revealed in the 1971 Series III E-Type. Suddenly in the same class as Italian ultra-exotics Ferrari and Lamborghini, the Series III XKE featured a dozen cylinders. And this was decades before German rivals Mercedes and BMW finally stepped up to the plate. Its long, phallic-looking bonnet and sensuous V-12 indisputably qualifies the flamboyant Jaguar as the sexiest car around; able to turn grown women into giggling debutantes upon sight. This NO RESERVE auction represents a unique opportunity to acquire prime example of this rare and wonderful automobile... in less than one week’s time... The breathtakingly attractive feline featured here, VIN *IS74035*, was built for export in December of 1972. It is one of only a few surviving V-12, 2+2's produced in 1972--a rare beast, indeed! This Jaguar has led a charmed life. Sold new and issued plates 429KEB on October 10, 1973 at Boulevard Buick-Jaguar in Long Beach, CA to Florence Maness, the cat took a coveted place inside her garage in the beach town of San Juan Capistrano. She pampered her E-Type, treating it like her one and only child, only traveling around 500 miles per year and never leaving the benevolent climate of the Golden State. The second owner is a successful commercial contractor, living in the affluent estates of Anaheim Hills. During his ownership, the car underwent a major hi-end cosmetic restoration including new paint and full leather interior at a cost of over $20,000. Used sparingly as a sunny-day-only toy, our burgundy Jaguar for auction here has covered a total of only 28,468 miles since new. The oil was religiously changed and the car was often started and driven around the block just to keep healthy. Services were performed at Britalia Import Auto Service in Fullerton, CA. Britalia is highly praised by Jaguar clubs across the country for their superior knowledge of E-Types and experienced Master mechanics. The car is available for test drives, consultations and inspections. Please email through eBay messaging to schedule an appointment and please do so PRIOR TO BIDDING. Let’s have a closer look now. Exterior: Sparkling chrome and stainless brightwork accent this stunning nose. With gran turismo styling and wire wheels, this Series III 2+2 is the epitome of Britishness. Professionally stripped and repainted at Anaheim Hills Auto Body in its original 2-stage Regency Red Code 302, the finish looks so deep you could dive into it. Luckily, this fabulous specimen has always been kept in a well-ventilated, dry garage and has never been exposed to any traffic hazards. Laser straight panels and uniform gaps confirm its originality. The original state of the body and engine bay could serve as a true "reference car" at JCNA gatherings. The personalized plates as well as one original Blue-and-Yellow CA license plate with dealer frame are included. This feline is as healthy as a show cat travelling with its own veterinarian and has never been involved in an accident, is completely rust free, and has never needed any rust repair, either. Sure, you might be able to repair a rusty or damaged car, but you can't bring back originality for all the money in the world. It's priceless! Above photo shows the window trim has slightly lifted. Though not perfect, the body needed zero collision repair prior to paint, irrefutable proof of the sheltered life this Roadster has led for almost 40 years. When inspecting a vintage Jaguar, closely examining the structural integrity of its monocoque ("unit body") is of paramount importance. A straight body is a hallmark of unmolested originality. Pictures clearly show the clean lines and rust-free rocker panels of this elegant cat. This is what a fine Jaguar tail is supposed to look like: chromed quad exhaust tips, gleaming stainless steel closing panel, bright lenses, undamaged sheet metal, even underneath. The immaculate body, trim and undercarriage not only speak volumes about the loving care this E-Type received but underscores its Southern California provenance. The long, sexy bonnet and the doors open and close smoothly and feature perfect shut lines. E-Types came from the factory with steel disc rims, unless you specified the optional and rather expensive chrome wire wheels. They are true "knock off" center-lock wires, enhancing the beauty of the big V12 cat immeasurably. Cat’s “Paws” are factory correct Michelin Symmetry 205/70R15’s whitewalls. These radials are practically new and look stunning with the wires. Surveying the car's straight and smooth coachwork today, we marvel at every minute detail. In fact, with little preparation, this fine example of the marque could be proudly displayed at a local car show or Concours d'Elegance. We'll inspect the interior next, shall we? The Jag's reupholstered interior presents itself 100% original. From the leather-covered, aluminum steering wheel to the WILTON carpet and CONNOLLY leather seats; everything is “original new” or in wonderfully preserved state, without any cracks or dryness. Perfect grain on the original steering wheel; a sure-fire indication of a low-mileage Jaguar that has always been protected from the elements. A 6ft+ driver can enjoy extended trips in the longer wheel based, Series III without having his knees in his face and head crouched-down to see under the windshield frame! The door panels, center console and sun visors are superbly preserved as well; mute testament to the car's low-mileage status. This cockpit communicates the intoxicating look and feel of the quintessential British sports car--the last really good one, if you ask the experts. Some of the original California dealer delivery paperwork, registration tags and Jaguar Repair Operation Manual are included. The fascinating array of Smiths gauges and switches seem to be gleaned from a period aircraft. The tactile pleasures are markedly increased by the knowledge that everything actually works; including the clock. The original AM/FM radio guarantees pleasurable 70’s music, even when traveling at speeds well above the double nickel. Finally, the sun visors and headliner are pristine without a rip or sag. Only a low-mileage classic can offer such a delightful original cabin. Alright, let's lift the hatch and check out the rear storage compartment. Inside the clean, dry luggage compartment is enough room for both his & hers suitcases and golf clubs. The rear hatch is locked from the inside cabin. Take out the panel and you'll gain access to the original jacking equipment and wire spare. There's zero corrosion to be found in this critical area. A picture says more than a thousand words: this all original trunk is clean! Let's take a close look underneath the cat's various mechanical components. Correct dual exhaust tip neatly fashions the Jaguar's tail. Stainless steel closing panel is super clean. All electricals work, even the backup lights! This original, unrestored, low-mileage Jag presents itself free of any kind of damage or corrosion. More important than shiny paint is a healthy undercarriage. Ol' Sherlock himself could inspect this cat's belly with his magnifying glass and would not find an ounce of corrosion. Even the vulnerable footwells are immaculate. Aside from little normal seepage around the engine components, there are no major drips. A close look at the suspension confirms: everything is clean and tight! Most importantly, there is absolutely NO collision repair or any other mishap that would cause the enthusiast sleepless nights. Let's take a look at the big cat's heart now. Engine & Mechanical: Raising the front-hinged bonnet exposes the heart of the E-Type, the feline's fabulous, silky smooth V12 power plant. This is a numbers matching drivetrain and is 100% factory correct, right down to its ancillaries, decals and markings. Engine bay is surgically clean. There is no corrosion, not even surface rust. If you are familiar with E-Types, you know how they can suffer from improper use and storage. Not so here! Jaguar's V-Twelve engine is actually a detuned version of the XJ13's marvelous 4-cam racing engine. It runs exactly like you would expect it from a low-mileage, well-maintained specimen. There are no annoying fluid leaks; neither is there any smoke, nor measurable oil consumption. It's a bullet-proof drive train, built with long distance touring in mind, certainly provides more than sufficient agility to prevail on any U.S. highway. Smoke upon start-up, excessive oil consumption and leaks? Not here! Beyond routine tune-ups & services, thousands of dollars were invested into preventative maintenance. No wear item was left unattended. As a result, this Jag is mechanically as strong as it is cosmetically. Speaking of cosmetics, let us stress how straight the body is, how sparkling the chrome, how glossy the paint: if you wouldn't know differently, you'd think to be looking at a 4-year old, not a 40-year-old car. This one is that clean! Driving Experience: This elegant cat is always ready to stretch her legs. Once seated snugly behind the aluminum-spoke steering wheel, pull the choke a bit, turn the key, and she begins to purr lazily. The well-muffled rumble emitting from its twin end-pipes successfully disguises this cat's 12 cylinder. She runs, drives, handles, and stops excellently. The 4-speed transmission shifts imperceptibly smooth. No overheating, smoke, nor untoward noises spoil the incredible fun. Characterized by turbine-smooth power delivery from idle to redline, emitting an addictive, muted growl composed of colorful induction and exhaust notes, the Jaguar V12 experience is singularly exciting. The roomy cockpit--V12’s were built on the longer 2+2 chassis--featuring modern amenities such as power assisted steering, power brakes, and air conditioning, and the revised, beefed-up front and rear suspension contribute significantly to the joy of piloting a Series Three E-Type. The E-Type’s suspension was very well balanced and decades ahead of its time. The steering, braking and suspension bring road handling and driving comfort is still comparable to supercars of this new millennium. The power assisted, rack & pinion steering remains sure footed and precise but makes parking and slow-speed maneuvers SO easy. Handling is simple and superb with no rattles, shakes, shimmies or pulls. Power assisted, dual-line, four-wheel disc brakes with 4-pot, front calipers always stop the car in a straight line without a hint of fading. Top speed is only limited by your guts (or the lack thereof . . .). All the while you are the center of attention and the recipient of more 'thumbs ups' then you imagined would be humanly possible. Actually, it's the predaceous feline they admire, but you, as her master and tamer, are the man. Jaguar's XK-E has been rightfully called the World's most sophisticated adult toy. One could not envision a more satisfying, stress-reducing workout than a weekend getaway in this sexy machine. All in all, this Jaguar is a thoroughly convincing performer and a joy to drive! Here is a prime opportunity to acquire a fully-equipped, healthy, rust free, original, low-mileage Series III E-Type, one of the World's finest and most pedigreed collectible automobiles. She's the proverbial California cat; even 39 years after she was manufactured, she performs amazingly and looks as sexy as ever. This beloved automobile is not only a collector's item but could serve as a stylish daily transport. It's a fully functional museum piece and a welcome alternative to your SUV. To find another one like it would be nearly impossible, to restore a lesser one, a tedious and expensive undertaking. There's but one stumbling block on the way to XKE heaven: Pristine examples almost never come to market. All the more reason to watch this one closely; Presently, we have a clear, CA. On Dec-12-12 at 11:38:45 PST, seller added the following information: ***Additional Comments and a Written Statement from the Owner*** Cars2K is a CA licensed and bonded trade assist and has listed this Jaguar for the private owner. Unless otherwise requested, the winning will receive clear CA Title directly from the private owner. The owner has prepared the below statement in response to the countless emails we have received requesting further details about the previous ownership, maintenance and restoration of this fine automobile. We have pasted his comments UN-EDITED below: “Steve, “I have known the original owner of this car since the early 80's. His mom, the registered owner, bought the vehicle for him for his high school graduation. When the car broke down (he told me that something went wrong with the transmission) he stopped driving the car and was stored undercover in Garden Grove, California until his mom moved to Modjeska Canyon, where she stored the vehicle undercover as well. Note: I never found anything wrong with the transmission...or anything else other than needing service. "The vehicle was purchased from the original owner in April 1991, and was then stored in my warehouse until December 2006. The car was then taken to British Motor Works (in Orange) and Britalia (in Fullerton) for mechanical restoration. I have complete records of all the mechanical work done at these shops. British Motors had the vehicle (based on the receipts) from December 2006 until January 2007. The vehicle then went to Anaheim Hills Auto Body in January for paint and stayed there until August 2007. I took it to Bon-a-Rues in August 2007 for upholstery and headliner. Further restoration work including extensive electrical was performed at Britalia. The vehicle then came home and has been undercover since. The cost of restoration is in excess of $40,000.00. I have receipts for everything except the paint...I traded out some construction work for the cost of the paint.” “I’ve tried to answer in the order of your comments under each photo displayed on eBay. First, the paint was done 2007. I'm not sure that fits the definition of "Fresh". Second, you stated that all the upholstery was replace with Wilton/Connelly leather. I have no idea what Wilton/Connolly is. The front seats were restored to original by Bon-a-Rues, but the seat covers/parts he used came from XK's unlimited in San Luis Obispo, California. Also, the photos you took definitely show that the back seat is not new. It did not need replacing so I didn't. Third, I'm not sure how to answer the discrepancy about the "Produced in 1972" vs. being a 1974 model? Forth, the oil has been changed regularly, but I can only speak to the time I've owned the car. Fifth, the front windshield was replace because it was broken by a falling limb (in Modjeska Cyn) and there was some minor body damage was repaired just above the frame of the windshield. Sixth, you state that the doors open smoothly, but they do stick a little because of the new door rubbers. Finally, all the gages work, but it appears that the clock works intermittently.” Bruce”
