To view a slideshow of over 150 huge photographs of this TR6, please click the link below to be directed to flickr website: http://www.flickr.com/photos/39622340@N05/sets/72157632182518483/show/ Presently, the engine starts and runs well but in order for the clutch to operate correctly replacement of both the crankshaft and thrush washers will be required. By removing the oil pan and the cap on the crankshaft, it was revealed that the thrush washers are gone and the crank surface is grooved on the edge from being pushed into the block (see detailed photos). The good news is - the rods appear okay and the engine runs surprisingly well despite the missing washers with no unusual noises or excessive oil consumption. Removal and replacement of the thrust washers may be accomplished without removing the head or pistons but only by someone who really knows what he’s doing or is under the guidance of a seasoned Triumph mechanic or machinist. It was recommended new thrust washers are “tacked welded” into place prior to extended operation to avoid irreversible damage to the block as currently, there is approximately 1/3” of end-play on the crankshaft pulley. Again, this is no job for the novice or faint of heart… For detailed info from The Vintage Triumph Register about TR6 Thrust Washers, please click on this link: http://www.vtr.org/maintain/thrust-washers.shtmlThe transmission is sound, all synchros are good and the overdrive works perfectly. The clutch operation can be tricky because the clutch-slave pushrod was extended to compensate for the end-play in the crankshaft which (of course) is due to the missing thrust washers. The vintage, Michelin Redline tires look great but due to their age, should be replaced (and engine sorted) prior to a long trip. Some minor body filler is evident on the sheat metal and there is a small rust hole in the front frame rail. There is some undercoating underneath and it appears that steel plates were welded onto the frame for added reinforcement. All of these are typical signs of prior rust. (Please see detailed photos) Fortunately, there is no evidence of major collision repair, everything looks and feels solid and the car runs straight down the road. Currently, the car is at Britalia Import Auto Service in Fullerton, CA. If you wish to arrange an inspection or speak with their knowledgeable, Master mechanic, please contact Heig at (714) 879-7531. Heig can objectively answer your mechanical questions, provide estimates for repairs and/or schedule inspections but is not involved in the auction nor can he or the seller provide a “buy it now” price or predict the value; so please do not ask. Remember, this is a NO RESERVE auction so the value will be determined by the final bid price in less than one week’s time. If you’re the winning bidder, you will OWN THIS TR6! Over 40 years since this TR6 left the manufacturing plant in England, finding a wonderfully preserved example is a rare occurrence, indeed. The Signal Red Roadster for auction here is the epitome of Britishness: It oozes character and displays a patina that is irreplaceable. The early TR6’s were true to the original models sold in the UK. A 1970 TR6 has higher horsepower ratings of 150 bhp over later cars rated at only 124bhp due to de-tuned engines and stricter air pollution requirements.Having leaner, chrome bumpers, the early TR6’s were lighter in weight and far more aesthetic than the bulky crash bumpers or “overriders” used on 1972-76 models. A hinged, fresh-air vent flap on the front cowl also differentiates this early TR6 from later examples. This particular TR6 has the correct factory style reflective stripe convertible top, Michelin redline radial tires, boot cover and electric OVERDRIVE which is superior for highway road trips. The body tag color code is 32 for Signal red and trim code 11 for black interior. Refinished some years ago to a nice driver quality, there are a few touched-up chips, cracks, dings rust bubbles and scratches but is otherwise presentable (see detailed photos). Super-close-up photos are rarely seen in eBay presentations. Most cars look great from 10 feet away. We are including many close-up shots here so you can see EVERY flaw in order to make an intelligent, stress free buying decision. Though this TR6 has previous rust repair and needs engine work for proper clutch performance, the car is currently running, drives straight down the road and feels SOLID. ALL GLASS is clear and un-cracked and the original top and boot will keep the elements out. Probably the best year for the TR6 Series, this 1970 will never need Smog Check in California and gets over 20 MPG. Local sales tax and DMV transfer fees apply to residents in CA. No penalties will be due for CA Registration renewal, All questions must be answered and all inspections must be completed PRIOR TO BIDDING. Proof of insurance will be required for a test drive. This Triumph is being sold in AS-IS CONDITION and comes with absolutely NO WARRANTIES EITHER EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED. The miles displayed on the speedometer are not accurate. We are proud to have a 100% POSITIVE FEEDBACK score. Bid with confidence, knowing everything represented in this auction is accurate. BIDDERS WITH ZERO OR NEGETIVE FEEDBACK MUST EMAIL US FOR APPROVAL PRIOR TO BIDDING OR THEIR BID WILL BE CANCELED. This Triumph’s present condition and buying terms have been described as accurately as possible.
