Vehicle Detail

Up for sale on this auction is a nice 1990 Chevrolet IROC Z-28 Camaro. The car was made in 1990 as noted, 1990 was the last year of IROC production, after mid-1990 Chevrolet stopped making the IROC, then in 1991 they dropped the IROC line entirely and only made the Z-28. What a shame! Gunnell’s "Standard Catalog of Camaro 1967-2002" notes that 1990 IROC Camaro production was limited to only 4,213 cars TOTAL, not at all like other years where tens of thousands of IROC’s were produced. Those super low numbers make this a reasonably tough car to locate. Actually, they just are seldom seen out there. Those low numbers also most certainly mean that investing in a 1990 IROC is not a bad plan in terms of long term value and investment. These third generation Camaros are starting to rise back up in price as all original ones, ones not modified and messed with and screwed with - which is exactly the category this car falls in - are very, very difficult to find anymore. So many of them have been all goobered up with mods to engines, body and hood parts, rims, etc, so many of these have been changed and "worked on" that it is just exceptionally hard to find "survivors" which are stock. This is a survivor, it just has not been messed with and changed out! It took me a long time to find one like this when I bought the car several years ago, despite looking within a multi-state area. They again are SO tough to find! This car I am selling is a typical 1990 IROC, it has a ton of great features to it. I will tell you all the good things about the car, and the not so good, which are all just simply based on the car being 22 years old and used basically! The good stuff… the car has Goodyear Allegra tires on it, on nice original factory alloy rims, they have the IROC logo in the center on all of them, none are missing, the tires are P216/65R15 size, they have a lot of wear left on them and are not in need of replacement anytime soon. The car has 97,197 miles on it right now, it may have a few more miles on it when the winner picks it up though, in the event I take it out for one last spin, if that happens, I will not have more than another 150 miles on it max though, so fair warning! The car has the standard factory automatic transmission with overdrive, it has a power driver’s seat, it has power locks, and power windows too. All the power locks work and all the power windows work fine too. The car has power mirrors, they work fine on both the left and right sides. The car also has factory t-tops / glass tops too. The seals on the t-tops are all intact, they do not need to be replaced immediately like most do, they are not sun baked and dried out. In fact, when the t-tops are removed, there is not rust on the rails where they sit, on top of the car, which is very common with most of these old third gen cars, as the t-tops often leak. Yes, these will leak a bit if the car is run through a car wash, but it is obvious that when this car was washed over the last 22 years, the tops were removed and the areas where they sit were dried, as I see no rust where the glass tops sit on the frame / body of the car. The car has cruise control - it works fine, it has tilt steering, it has air conditioning too, and the air works well and blows nice and cold, the air has been converted over from Freon to the new environmentally friendly R-134. That conversion was noted inside the engine compartment. The car has an 8 cylinder / V8, 305 cid engine, it is a Tuned Port Injection fuel injected car. It turns right over when the key is turned. The car has the original factory AM/FM stereo with cassette player, it also has all the original factory speakers in it too. The stereo has never been replaced or converted over, it is all original, and everything with the stereo and cassette deck work just fine too. It sounds good and gets nice and loud! The seatbelts in the car are all intact and working, the driver’s side / steering wheel has an air bag / supplemental restraint system too, that might be a nice plus to your insurance company when it comes to rates. The exhaust on the car is just fine, I have no idea if it is original or not and honestly have no way to tell. The car has an electric hatch release, it works fine, the car also has an automatic hatch closure system, so when you close the rear hatch down, you just have to lightly close it down then the electrical system to it pulls it down the rest of the way and locks it into place. The hatch has a cover which can be pulled across it, to hide what is in the hatch / trunk area of the car. The interior of the car is the original factory red color, it is a cloth interior. The interior is really, really, really clean, no rips, no tears, no soiled spots, nothing like that. It is really nice and looks great! There is some sun fading on the top of the rear seats, just to be clear on the shortcomings. Not a big deal, just a normal product of the car being in the sun and having a huge glass rear window hatch area. Inside the center console is the original GM factory coding tags which tell every component and option on this car. I will be attaching pictures of those so that you can clearly check the codes and see exactly what this car came out of the factory with and has. Now for the downsides, I won’t hide anything on this car, I will tell you the exact condition it is in so there are no surprises for the buyer. They are… over the summer, one of the factory fog lamps got broke, so I replaced both of them with new ones. The picture below shows that one one of the lights is broke but there are TWO brand new lights on it now. They are not GM replacements but they look exactly like them. As far as the overall condition of the body goes, I would call it "very good". I believe that the paint job on the car is all original and that it has never been partially or fully repainted. The body does show 22 years of age, use and typical wear and tear though, as would be expected. In various places on the car there are small rock chips, very small paint chips, again, the things you’d typically see, and in the places you’d expect to see them from honest day to day use, the hood and lower body panels on the sides being the main areas. There are a couple very small rock chips with very small dings on the hood. Almost all the chips are simply just chips to the red coat, with the whitish colored coating underneath visible, as opposed to having had the chips have turned to rust. On the right front ground effect, right at the bottom of it in front of the tire, there is a small crack to it, it is about 2 inches total I would guess. Not in imminent danger of cracking off or breaking, but it is there. On the right rear quarter panel over the tire, along the edge there are about 4 inches of area where the paint has bubbled from rust starting underneath the paint. The paint is still there, which indicates to me the rust is not all the way through and more surface for now. On the left rear quarter panel over the tire, on the edges there is about 6 inches of a similar paint bubbling from rust having started underneath the paint there. Again, not all the way through the paint, but it is there and can be seen and felt, although it certainly does not jump out at you - the spot on the right side does not either. On the left front fender of the car at the rear bottom of the panel, where it meets the door area & along the lower accent area here the graphics stripes are, there is an area of rust / paint bubbling there, it is about 3 inches long and about 1 inch high, the rust is clearly visible for what it is there. On the rear hatch & window area there is a piece of black metal trim that goes all the way around the window glass, the black paint is starting to fade and lift there. Not rust, just a loss of color. And finally, on the passenger side door, right below the glass area, some dolt got too into it with a buffer at some point and buffed right down through the clear coat along where the window trim is. There is no rust there, just an area where one can see the red color is not as deep and rich and where the door in that spot is not as shiny, it is a dull look on that small part. When the car is waxed it is not too noticeable. That’s the bad! Not all that bad actually, but again, I want to be 100% clear on the total, overall condition of this car so that the winning buyer knows exactly what they are bidding on and buying, with no surprises whatsoever. The car has a lot of great things going for it, and it does actually look nice. It drives well, it shifts well, it is a peppy car which gets up and goes when you put your foot into the gas pedal, the throttle response is fast! The brakes are fine, they work well, they respond fast. The steering is responsive and quick, the tires have at least 10,000 or 20,000 miles left on them I would estimate, they are fine and hold air and all. The battery is new this spring when I replaced it, the one in it now is from NAPA. All the electrical in the car works just fine too, all the accessories do as well. The windows have slowed over time, but still go up and down just fine. The RPO codes in the car are clearly pictured with this listing and show that this car was and is factory equipped with the following, by RPO code: 16P WHEEL COLOR BRIGHT WHITE (96) 1AY ORDER MODIFICATION STOCK 1SD PACKAGE OPTION 04 AC3 WINDOW SLIDING FRT DR, LH AG9 ADJUSTER FRT ST POWER, 6 WAY AJ3 RESTRAINT SYSTEM SEAT, INFLATABLE, DRIVER C49 DEFOGGER RR WINDOW, ELECTRIC C60 HVAC SYSTEM AIR CONDITIONER FRT, MAN CONTROLS DC4 MIRROR I/S R/V TILT, DUAL READING LAMPS G80 AXLE POSITRACTION LIMITED SLIP GU2 AXLE REAR 2.73 RATIO IPC TRIM INTERIOR DESIGN (PC) T93 LAMP TAIL & STOP, SPECIAL T96 LAMP FOG, FRT 16P WHEEL COLOR, BRIGHT WHITE (91) 1AY STOCK ORDERS PROCESSING OPTION (DEALER ORDERED CAR) 1SD OPTION PACKAGE 04 16P WHEEL COLOR, BRIGHT WHITE (91) 1AY STOCK ORDERS PROCESSING OPTION (DEALER ORDERED CAR) 1SD OPTION PACKAGE 04 G80 Differential, limited slip 6XW COMPONENT FRT LH COMPUTER SEL SUSP (6XW) 73C TRIM COMBINATION CLOTH, FLAME RED (C) (91) 73I INTERIOR TRIM FLAME RED (I) (96) 73I INTERIOR TRIM RED WINE, OPEL (99) 7XW COMPONENT FRT RH COMPUTER SEL SUSP (7XW) A31 WINDOW POWER OPERATED, ALL DOORS AM9 SEAT RR SPLIT BACK, FOLDING AR9 SEAT FRT BKT, DELUXE AU3 LOCK CONTROL SIDE DR, ELEC D34 MIRROR I/S FRT VAN LH & RH, SUNSHADE, NO ILLUMINATION D3W GEAR SPEEDO DRIVEN (D3W) D42 SHADE RR COMPT DG7 MIRROR O/S LH & RH, REMOTE CONTROL, ELECTRIC, COLOR J41 BRAKE SYSTEM PWR, FRT DISC, RR DRUM, CAST IRON K34 CRUISE CONTROL AUTOMATIC, ELECTRONIC K68 GENERATOR 105 AMP LB9 ENGINE GAS, 8 CYL, 5.0L, MFI, HO U79 SPEAKER SYSTEM 4, DUAL FRT COAX, DUAL EXT RGE PKG SHELF UB3 CLUSTER INST, OIL, COOL TEMP, VOLTS, TRIP ODOM, TACH UM6 RADIO AM/FM STEREO, SEEK/SCAN, AUTO REV CASS, CLOCK, ETR UQ1 RADIO PROVISIONS, AM/FM STEREO DG7 Mirrors, outside power-adjustable, body-color DG7 Mirrors, outside power-adjustable, body-color UB3 Antenna, AM/FM DG7 Mirrors, outside power-adjustable, body-color DG7 Mirrors, outside power-adjustable, body-color UB3 Antenna, AM/FM 81Q MOLDING COLOR BRIGHT RED (91) 81U PRIMARY COLOR EXTERIOR, BRIGHT RED (02) 81U PRIMARY COLOR EXTERIOR, BRIGHT RED 2, (02), HOLDEN 81U PRIMARY COLOR EXTERIOR, NEW BRIGHT RED (02) 8NM COMPONENT RR LH COMPUTER SEL SUSP (8NM) A90 LOCK CONTROL RR CMPT LID, REM CONT ELEC RELEASE B18 ORNAMENTATION INTR, DELUXE B34 COVERING FRT FLOOR MATS, CARPETED INSERT B35 COVERING REAR FLOOR MATS, CARPETED INSERT D80 SPOILER RR END PNL D88 DECAL STRIPE, SPORT E5Z ADAPTER SPEEDO - DELETE MX0 MERCHANDISED TRANS AUTO PROVISIONS, O/D NA5 EMISSION SYSTEM FEDERAL, TIER 0 NP5 STEERING WHEEL LEATHER WRAPPED V73 VEHICLE STATEMENT USA/CANADA VAN PLANT CODE VAN NUYS, CA, USA VK3 LICENSE PLATE FRONT FRT MOUNTING PKG WW8 APPEARANCE PACKAGE ACCENT #8 D80 Spoiler, rear MX0 MERCHANDISED TRANS AUTO PROVISIONS, O/D VK3 License plate bracket, front MX0 Transmission, 6-speed automatic VK3 License plate bracket, front 86A STRIPE COLOR ACCENT, TWO TONE, RASPBERRY/BLACK (93) 86A STRIPE COLOR ACCENT, TWO TONE, RED/GUNMETAL (91) 9NM COMPONENT RR RH COMPUTER SEL SUSP (9NM) B84 MOLDING B/S EXTERIOR CC1 ROOF HATCH, REMOVABLE PANELS, GLASS E9Z KEY SP EEDO - DELETE FE2 SUSPENSION SYSTEM RIDE, HANDLING N65 TIRE & WHEEL SPARE, SPACE SAVER, STEEL PF2 WHEEL 15 X 7, ALUMINUM W62 EQUIPMENT GTO PERFORMANCE PACKAGE Z28 MERCHANDISED PKG SPECIAL PERFORMANCE FE2 Suspension, Sport N65 Wheel and tire, spare, compact N65 Wheel and tire, spare, compact 73C TRIM COMBINATION CLOTH, FLAME RED (C) (91) The VIN decoded says: Country 1 USA 2nd Manufacturer G General Motors 3rd Make 1 Chevrolet 4th Carline Code F F-Body 5th Series P Camaro (All Models) 6th Body Type 2 2-Door Hatchback Coupe 7th Restraint Syst. 3 Manual seatbelts (Driver inflatable) 8th Engine F LB9 V8 305-cid Engine 9th Check Digit 5 VALID - Your VIN Appears to be CORRECT. At some point I had always intended or planned on having the car repainted and keeping it in its original color of red, just due to the chips and such from normal wear, but again, I just never got around to it. The title on it is clean / I own it free and clear, so I can sell it without having to worry about dealing with a lien. As to the winner, my terms are that you pay me $1,000 immediately upon purchase, via Paypal, then the balance is due by the time the car is picked up, which needs to be within 7 days unless we make some other arrangements. The $1,000 is immediate though, just to ensure you are serious about the purchase and not jerking me around. I WILL SEND YOU AN INVOICE VIA EBAY & PAYPAL FOR THE $1,000.00 DEPOSIT AMOUNT, AND THE FULL AMOUNT TOO IF YOU SO DESIRE. The car runs and drives really well, you buy it you own it, if you come to pick it up and think you will be getting me to drop the price, think again, I will not do it. This is probably one of the most accurately described cars you will find here on eBay, there is nothing hidden and no secrets, and I am happy to answer any questions and send anyone additional pictures that you ask for, but BEFORE the auction ends, not after. I am pricing it to sell, not pricing it to get jerked around by someone, so be clear that once you buy this you own it, the price is not going to change because you meet me to get it and find some contrived BS reason to try to get me to lower the price. I’ve heard all the scams, so just be as upfront with me as I am being with you. I would also be willing to possibly meet you within a hundred or so miles of where I live if that makes delivery easier on the winning buyer, based on my work schedule though, and to clarify, all shipping and pick up costs are 100% the responsibility of the buyer! Again, contact me with any questions or if you want more pics. When the balance is due, it needs to be cash in hand or a cashiers check. If you plan on paying the balance with a certified check or money order, you will have to wait until that check clears my bank. That usually takes between seven to ten days. The easiest way would be CASH. We can meet in the local police department parking lot if you wish too, I have no problem with that whatsoever! Thanks for looking, and again, contact me with any questions! I know that this description is very LONG and detailed, however my last experience selling my 1959 Chevy Biscayne on Ebay was not pleasurable. I described the vehicle 100% accurately and to the best of my abilities and the buyer ASSumed he was buying a Barrett-Jackson quality car for pennies on the dollar. He did not ask any questions beyond what was stated in the auction and was disappointed that his fantasies were not reality. On Nov-30-12 at 08:11:21 PST, seller added the following information: I just had an Ebayer retract their bid on my IROC, reasons unknown? If you are not 100% confident on purchasing this car AND have funds readily available.....DO NOT BID!!!!!!!!!
