This FJ-40 was purchased as part of an estate. It has been stored inside for several years, but it starts easily and runs well. Overall, it is in very good condition, especially considering its age. The instrument cluster does not function, so the milage isn't known, but it is to be assumed that it does have many miles on it. All of that being said, the V-8 engine, (probably a chevy short block, but not sure), runs well, the clutch feels strong, it shifts pretty well - but a little stiff, and the 4 WD works, but also a little stiff in shifting. The hubs turn easily. It has a new battery, and the tires are in "fair" condition. The brakes seem to be in fair condition, but will need to be checked and adjusted. For the most part, there is very little appearent rust on the frame and body. The areas where there is any significant rust damage is at the tailgate, and on the drivers side floor board next to the door. There is also some rust damage at the rear wheel wells where the roll-over post are connected to the rear wheel fenders. For a FJ-40, the vehicle is in very good shape as far as rust goes. There are a few minor areas where some minor body rust is appearent. The body has been repaired with some body filler in a few areas, and there are a few minor dents, dings and damage, some obviously repaired, and some not. The fiberglass roof is in very bad condition, with a hole, and numerous cracks, etc. I have no idea if the roof can be repaired, but I doubt it. All of the glass is in good condition, except for a few scratches - no cracks. The gasket material around some of the glass is in very bad condition, and would probably have to be replaced. The entry doors work well, and are in good condition, except for the gasket material, which is missing or in very poor condition. It is difficult to open/close the door glass - the glass in the doors are very stiff when trying to crank them up or down. All of the lights work, except for a couple of the minor "side" lights, and the blinkers work. I don't know about the wipers or heater - didn't try them. The exhaust system appears to be nearly new, but the exhaust pipes are badly dented in one area. Some hoses are cracked and may need to be replaced. The tailgate and rear door are in need of repair, latches and alignment, as well as repairing a lot of rust damage at the bottom of the fold down tail gate. The seats are in good repair, but stained in a couple of areas. We strongly suggest that before submitting a bid, you inspect and drive the vehicle. It runs strong, but is geared low. The steering is a bit "loose", seems to be more of the power steering unit than the tie-rods, etc. There are other photos available and will be sent upon request to those that are SERIOUS about bidding on the vehicle.
