Vehicle Detail

The truck was built as a regular 4 door dually, and factory painted solid red. The truck went to the Hodges Truck bed company in KY in 1992 where the 20 ft bed was added after extending the frame about four feet. They also added the electric winch and hand held remote cable control, roof air deflector, hood cowl, coach handles with other various stainless trim, spot lights, lower air deflector, chrome bumper guard,. and aluminum rims. The truck was used for auto auction transportation for years by a car lot in Ohio. I purchased this vehicle in March of 2010, a month after selling my auto salvage yard in Florida. Still owning vintage cars, some non running, a truck was needed for the several trips planned between the move from Florida to North Carolina. The truck had 212000 miles on it at that time. March to December of 2010 was prepared for the journey and inventory preparation. I began moving vehicles in July of 2011, and hauled one on this truck and towed the second on a trailer, moving two vehicles at the time during the 15 hour trip. Made 5 trips back and forth through February 2012, without any major issues. A battery a two tires was the only issues. During December of 2010, before starting the move, I had some prep work done to the bed. Attached are some smaller photos of the Hodges bed when I got the truck. Actually, the final three pictures were from the week I bought it. Note the top of the bed is red on the edges. Someone had rattle canned some brakes drums on the back of the bed. That was there when I gt it. The bed shows its age with some surface rust on the edges and it had rusted through near the rear tail light area. A few places were on the drive portion of the bed as well. The bed was repaired with metal in two places where the metal was cut out and new metal put in. These were small places around 6X4 inches. The small remaining areas were sand and filled. The truck itself has never had any body work, or never wrecked. The solid red paint was at some point, two toned with the silver. This was not factory. and was discovered on the paint code information in the glove box. When the bed fixed, I had the red resprayed on the hood, tops of the fenders, and the doors, up to the roof. This was because the clear coat was scaling and had been for years. The red was very faded. The silver on the side was redone, and the bed was painted to match. The stripes on the cab are original and the bed stripes were added to match the cab. None of the red on the roof or the cab itself has ever been touched. When the paint work was done, the whole underneath was cleaned of the surface rust and it was sprayed with OSPHO.There was nothing rusted enough to be repaired or replaced. The silver paint was done up to the top edge of the bed, to the diamond steel deck of the bed. This top diamond area was thoroughly cleaned and then rolled with Rustoleum due to the fact of sliding cars and hauling. It has been two years now, and there are some places that need to be redone. This bed is now 20 years old and is certainly good enough to last another 20 years. I replaced most of the side marker lights on the bed back then, and now a couple are in need of repair and replacement. I found a place on the internet and have that info in the glove box. for matching replacements. The bed has two slide out ramps and can be removed if need be. As stated, the cab has no rust or damage repair. There are no holes in the floor or anything like that. The doors close good with out any worn out hinge bushings and it is quiet going down the road. No leaky or torn weatherstripping. The interior is all original matching the trim codes in maroon cloth and so is the headliner. There are no rips or tears in the seats, and no signs of wear either. The original carpet has had extra floor matting. Someone cut commercial carpet and placed that under the factory rubber mats, and the carpet below, looks like new. Other than cleaning, it looks unused and the rear seat area is the same. The add on spot lights don't work, nor do the running board lights, and I have never traced them out to find out why. All of the factory lights, meaning roof clearance, rear cab/cargo, flashers, turn signals, brake lights, park lights, and headlights ALL work. The composite bulbs for the headlights are very clean and clear. The high beams are excellent. I have never tried the factory cassette, which is separate from the AM/FM stereo, but everything on the dash works. This includes the cruise control, horn, lighter, wipers, heater, and AC. All the power windows and door locks work, including the power seat. The head liner and sun visors are in good condition as well. Under the hood is the 454 engine. It does not knock, rattle or smoke on the first start up. It does not leak oil at all either, and going to Florida empty, and coming back to NC hauling two cars, it may or may not use a half quart of oil at the most. I was told when I bought the truck from the previous owner, it had the engine replaced at 100,000 or so miles. It must have not been taken care of, because this one has 124,000 on it and you would have never known, had I not stated it. It had a factory crated new engine installed, not some butcher shop job. It looks original right down to the air cleaner. The transmission I have no history on, BUT it does not slip, or leak..it never has..and the fluid looks good. It is the over drive type, and when the torque convertor locks in at 1800 rpm, I set the cruise. Except for excessive hills and long bridges I drive at 55 mph, and have since I owned it, whether I was towing or not. Driving this speed and RPM, the truck gets about 12-13 MPG empty and about 9 towing TWO cars, and 10 with just one on the back. Of course this is moderate acceleration and stopping. I replaced the spark plugs right after I got it, in the summer of 2010. The plug wires in April of 2012. The gas filter last Thanksgiving. At this time, I also replaced the brake pads on the front, and a battery July of 2010, which was the first mechanical thing. This was on the first trip from FL. In December 2011, I had the right rear inside tire replaced in Florida and this past February, both front tires. There are no "may pops" on the truck, all the tires are very good. In January I encountered some broken wheel studs, on the right rear, as the tire lugs worked loose from the tire replacement. When I took the right rear drum off, I noticed the rear brake shoes were getting very close, BUT not close enough to replace, or I would have. I put a new drum seal in with the new studs and lug nuts and would guess by now, the rear shoes are getting close, as I have put on about 2000 miles since then, including the last trip to Florida and back this past February. I have not drove the truck 500 miles since then. I would say the only thing I can think of the truck might need it front shocks. When you apply the brakes, sometimes the front end begins to shake. It is NOT a brake rotor pulsation. The truck does NOT wonder all over the road, nor does it have any play in the steering wheel. When I had the front tires replaced this past February, I took a semi truck tire long bar and moved both front wheels up and down and side to side, and there was NOT enough movement for bad ball joints, tie rods, or drag link and idler arm wear. This leads me to maybe worn out shocks. Other than the brake shoes on the rear and the possible shocks, I know of nothing else this truck needs. I certainly would NOT hesitate to drive this truck anywhere. I would go to Florida on it immediately if I had to go, and this truck was all I had to drive. I made trips and back to Florida from NC moving to NC and am in the process of retiring, as another auction I have listed reflects. Whoever buys this truck could drive and get it, and haul their car back. Besides, this is not something to ship. Pickup is the buyer's responsibility. This truck now sits in a storage facility lot, and has been there going on two months. I just do not need it anymore. This is without a doubt, the best road truck for hauling cars in this price range, that money can buy. I am including with the truck on this auction one "J" hook for securing the vehicle over the rear axle, the electric remote control that allows the cable operation. By the way, I forgot to mention. Last year I replaced the original 50 foot winch cable with a new one, and the hook with a new MADE IN USA hook, as well, and two new electric solenoids that control the winch motor. Also included, are two fairly new front tie down straps for the bed mounted binders. There isn't anything else I can think of, but if you have any questions, email. Down payment is okay through pay pal, but I prefer cash on pickup. within 5 days of auction's end unless other arrangements prior. Thanks for reading. PS...LOOK at the title check, on the ad below. It speaks for all of the above in ownership history. The truck was used by a car lot from new to 2009. I bought it from the dealer at an auto show swap meet in 2010. I am the Plant City owner. I HAVE lowered the price $500.00 because I have had 3 offers of $7000.00 these last few days. SO, if you are serious, her is your chance to buy it now.
