1986 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16 VIN# WDBDA34D9GF152765 For your consideration is my 1986 US-delivery Mercedes-Benz 2.3-16 Cosworth. I'm selling it because I am an enthusiast and I write about Mercedes cars for an international Mercedes publication, and I have my eye on a new project. This is a fantastically solid car, and in very good driver condition. Key high points: 28k post engine rebuild, all components genuine Mercedes-Benz parts 198k on chassis New cylinder head was purchased directly from Mercedes-Benz Revised chain tensioner and new cam sprockets installed All four shocks replaced at time of engine rebuild with original Mercedes-Benz parts (including self-leveling suspension which functions perfectly) Replaced driver front a-arm and rear subframe bushings Getrag 265/5 Dogleg transmission with Redline MTL 3.27 LSD New flex disks Dash is completely crack free Working A/C Driver-quality repaint in original Smoke Silver paint with 2-stage system due to clearcoat degradation (no rust repair nor previous damage – all body panels are original with no sign of accident history) Upgraded Hella European headlamps W201 15-Hole alloys in perfect condition with tires at approximately 70% tread remaining Correct European 2.3-16 leather-wrapped sport steering wheel Brand new factory shift knob with correct dogleg shift pattern Alpine AM/FM CD player Brand-new OEM black carpet floor mats New (correct 1-wiper) windshield Vacuum locks work flawlessly Things that I would address over time if I kept the car: The speedometer functions but the odometer is off and moves slowly Sunroof is non-operational but can be operated manually (sunroof headliner not present) Front seat bottoms are worn. The rest of the upholstery is in very good condition Passenger rear door card is warping Power antenna does not work, but is easily raised and lowered manually Exhaust rattles off and on (particularly when cold) Likes about a minute to warm-up when first started cold The previous owner of this car used it as his daily driver, and I have used it sparingly as a weekend/back roads car, which the car absolutely loves. These cars are becoming increasingly rare in this condition, the majority falling into two categories – either perfect show-quality examples creeping up on $15-$20K or ridden-hard, put-away wet beaters in need of major mechanical work for about $3-$4K. This car falls squarely in-between.
