Vehicle Detail

Offering my very rare 1962 BMW 700 S Coupe. This is a real S model, the numbers match. I was informed by the previous owner that this car was never driven on the street, only raced for a few years until it went into dry storage in GA for 40 or so years. I purchased the car over the summer with hopes to restore it, however since I am busy on another project, I've decided to let it go. Being an S, this would be a great investment and stunner once restored. I have registered the car in NJ and have the clear title in my name. This 700 needs restoration and assembly. Still has it's original red paint and a very solid body, aside from some minor surface rust in a few places. The perfect candidate for a top-notch restoration. The drivers door appears to have been replaced along with some minor damage to the front fender that could be easily straightened. There was some surface rust on the roof where the previous owner told me a small piece of wood was placed while it was in storage (the wood must have absorbed moisture). The only thing I have done to this car since I bought it was treat that roof rust with POR-15. It is missing the rear window. New replacements are available and I found someone who has a used one they are willing to sell. Parts for these cars are still available new and used from Germany and of course from various parts suppliers here in the USA. The body is mostly complete with a few trim pieces missing. The engine was removed and disassembled prior to storage. It comes with most of the engine parts to build the motor, but not all. One of the cylinders is missing, along with the heads. All parts in the pictures come with the car, including an engine, transmission, shift linkage, drive shafts, original S twin solex carburetors and the car's original engine timing cover with the correct chassis number stamped in. This is important because it means you can build the motor to be numbers matching. BMW stamped the chassis number of each car onto the engine timing cover (block) on all 700's. The interior is mostly complete, but needs total restoration. Instruments and rear seat also included. The car has it's vintage roll-bar still bolted in place. Some information regarding the BMW 700S model: The first variant of the 700 to appear after the original coupe and saloon was the 700 Sport in August 1960. Available only as a coupe, the Sport used an uprated engine with a pair of Solex carburetors and a 9.0:1 compression ratio. This brought the power output to 40 horsepower (30 kW). The Sport also had a rear anti-roll bar. A ribbed oil pan was used to reduce the oil temperature of the more powerful engine. The 700 Sport was renamed the 700 CS in 1963.
