Vehicle Detail
Something a little different, This auction is for a true one owner 1965 Volkswagen 13 Window Split Windshield Bus. I am the executor for my long time best friend Tony's estate and I am representing this vehicle for his estate. Although I have an extensive automotive background, 1960s VW's are not my field of expertise but my aim is to represent this vehicle to the best of my ability and as accurately as possible. This bus was originally leased by my long time best friend Tony, and when the lease ended he purchased it outright and he had Title until his death in January 2011 when the Title was transferred to his wife and is marked "surviving spouse" so it is truly a one owner vehicle with a Clear Ohio Title Now on to the vehicle; This bus has been sitting now for the last 13 years behind his house on a concrete pad due to my friends failing health. It was however under a tarp for most of those years and was started regularly until his health became so bad. I recently tried it and it did start and run very well but now with an external gas feed as I did not want to risk the gas that was still in the tank. The bus appears to be 100% complete except for the rear tail lights, wheels and the Radio/Stereo both of which were stolen while Tony was in the hospital The bus is a walk through style, with split opening doors on the passenger side, Split windshield, and it has a built in refrigerator, potable water system and sink. The bus has been correctly converted to a 12 volt system complete with a genuine VW 12 Volt Alternator as can be seen in the engine photos All of the glass is there and seems to be in good shape except for the windshield(s) which are discolored around the edges but still useable. The body and chassis are really very solid and I can find no signs of rust perforation only lots of surface rust, the worst rust I can find is on the roof near the gutters and above the front passenger area but still no perforation or rust through. The side doors are OEM replacements and are in primer and in very good condition, the windows are not shown in the doors but they are pictured seperately and are included in the sale. I will also include any other parts that I may find such as tail lights but there are no guarantees that I will find them. The Bumpers are inside the bus The front doors are also solid and appear to relatively rust free, just surface no rust through. There is also a roof rack and a roof vent. The floors are solid and I could not during my inspection find any rust through and the photos I post will also bear this out. Tony was my friend for nearly 4 decades and as long as I new him this bus was never driven in the winter which accounts for it being as solid as it appears to be. Throughout the life of this bus it was maintained extremely well as Tony was also a Certified Registered Master Volkswagen Technician with over 40 years at the same dealership and he did all of the work on this bus including many engine performance and reliability upgrades until his health began to fail. I have over 60 other photos readily available including some with Tony and the bus when it was on the road and he was camping in it so if you need more please feel free to ask or if you need a specific area taken of please let me know. PLEASE! If you have any questions please feel free to ask. The Bus is located about 5 minutes from my home in West Akron, Ohio 44320 and I can readily meet you for inspections with a little advance notice, I do encourage inspections! My expertise is 1960s FoMoCo and I do not claim to be an expert with VWs so the opinions expressed are exactly that, my opinion and lets be honest, mine may be different from your so please if you have any questions or wish to see the BUS before bidding email me, I am more than willing to be accomodating, I will also be listing TONS of New and Used Vintage VW parts, Accessories, Specialized VW tools, manuals, Engines and more, mostly OEM and genuine VW and some aftermarket 1950s through early 90s so keep watching. I will also be listing a two owner 1950 Triumph T6 twin Motorcycle that was also Tony's since 1964 also in running condition and continuously licensed to present. On Oct-31-12 at 08:36:02 PDT, seller added the following information: GREAT NEWS!!! I have located a set of wheels and tires Locally here in Akron that will fit this BUS. The seller wants $200.00 for all. If anyone is interested purchasing the wheels please let me know when you pay for the Bus and I add that to your total and I will put them on for you. Also due to Ohio's changing weather, there will problem with letting the bus remain where it is for an additional amount of time if nessessary as long as it is paid for, I am just trying to make this easy for everyone!
