Vehicle Detail
1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme 442 W-30 convertible Doesn't every red blooded American man or woman want a 1970 Red Oldsmobile 442 convertible? 1970 was the pinnacle of the Muscle Car era, and a red 442 is one of the most highly sought after muscle cars on the planet. This car is just like your fathers Oldsmobile if he was the cool Dad on the block. I recently acquired this sweet 1970 Oldsmobile convertible this last summer from a gentleman who owned it for the past 9 years. He had always kept it stored in his garage, and by the looks of this car I would say it was probably garage kept most of its life. I was told the mileage could possibly be the original, but I am uncertain to make that statement to be factual. This Olds was made to look like the awesome 442 W-30 model. This car had only one re-paint prior to my ownership. This is a drivers quality paint job that some people might consider to be show quality, but I personally do not. However, It was painted with four coats of code 75 Matador red in basecoat, and then the black hood stripes and the W-30 side stripes were painted on. Following the basecoat, and stripes were four coats of clearcoat to bury the stripes into the paint. This car looks spectacular to virtually everyone who sees it. This car is for the guy or girl who had one in high school and would like to revisit the past or someone who simply likes to drive around and enjoy their bank account. It's also a wonderful car to take to the local drive-in movie theater or cruise night. Spring is right around the corner, and this car is red and ready! This drop top could end up down south or possibly another country where it can be enjoyed year round. The original convertible top has been replaced, and this top appears in very good condition. There is a rear glass window, and the top goes up and down great. Included with this auction is an original convertible top boot to place over the top when the top is down. The original 1970 Cutlass/442 owner's manual is also included in the glove box. The prior owner said he completely re-built the original numbers matching engine, and transmission 2 years ago. The oil and oil filter was just changed to prepare the car for sale. This new engine has barely been broken in with just over 500 miles on it since the complete rebuild. He also had brand new dual exhaust installed with new headers, and dual flowmaster mufflers to make this 70 rumble like a blast from the past. New chrome exhaust tips were also just installed. Every time this car is fired up, it's like an adrenaline rush! The alternator, water pump, voltage regulator, master cylinder, fan, belts, brake lines, and fuel lines have all been replaced. The spark plug wires were also changed to 8.5mm wires for maximum spark. The engine was detailed, and a brand new heavy duty radiator was just installed this week. This car starts right up every time, and steers with finger tip control. This classic Olds has some very rare options for a 42 year old car. It has the W-25 forced air induction steel framed ram-air hood, with chrome twistdowns. This hood has the primary, and secondary locking mechanisms, with the chrome twistdowns to make sure it stays in place. It has the infamous Whale Tail spoiler, and the one year only GM Clam Shell sport mirrors. It is steered with the 442 sport wheel. There is nothing like cruising down the road looking out the windshield at that awesome striped hood, with the top down, and a peak in the rear view mirror to see the whale tail. It has power steering, power brakes, power windows, power top, and tilt wheel. It was factory ordered with air conditioning, but is missing the compressor, so making the A/C operable will be left up to the next owner if they so desire. The front and rear brakes are new, with all new wheel cylinders. The original gas tank was restored, and the gas gauge works as it should. This Olds has a 12-bolt rear-end, but I am not sure of the gear ratio. The tires are BRAND NEW raised white lettered Hoosier GT radials. They say right on the side of the tires "Tires Designed For Champions". They really give this drop top a smooth champion ride down the road. The new tires are mounted on Super Stock I wheels with all new chrome lug nuts, all four bolt on center caps, and all four beauty trim rings. They are just the right size to make this car sit proud like a real 442 should. The headlights and bright lights were changed to Wagner halogen lights for maximum visibility. The springs and shocks were changed before I bought the car, and you can see how nice this car sits from the pictures. The clock is set on the best time of the day. It's always 4:42 time! The front bucket seats were just reupholstered, so they will be nice and comfortable for many years to come. The balance of the interior shows very well as shown in the pictures. This car has the original AM radio, but is not hooked up. The wipers work fine on both speeds, and new wiper blades were just installed. The drivers floor was replaced, but the rest of the floors are original, and the frame is in good condition. The original trunk floor had some minor patchwork before it was coated with A/C Delco black and aqua spatter spray. There are new floor mats inside the car, and a new trunk mat sits inside the nicely detailed trunk with the original restored jack, and crowbar. A full size Super Stock I wheel with a raised white lettered Hoosier GT radial spare tire comes inside the trunk just in case there is a mishap on the road. With a quick tire change you can be on your way looking complete. Everywhere you drive this car people are attracted to this car like a magnet. You must be prepared to be the spectacle of the neighborhood. These cars are getting harder and harder to come across. I did not have a pair of red fender wells, but I tried to replace all of the factory decals to make this car appear as it would have looked the day it rolled out of the factory onto the showroom floor as a W-30. Take advantage of this chance to finally own your dream car. I witnessed in person a 1970 442 W-30 convertible in Matador red sell at Barrett-Jackson in the spring of 2009 in West Palm Beach Florida for $173,250. I'm not trying to insinuate that this car is anything like a Barrett-Jackson museum piece by any stretch of the imagination. Although, I do believe that this investment will continue to rise as these cars have been known to consistently appreciate in value. A Matador red with black striped 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 post coupe just sold at the Mecum auction this past Saturday for $100,000. This can easily be looked up online at the Mecum auction website in the top 10 sellers. Who wants a post coupe when you can have a convertible? Why pay those inflated prices when you can own the same looking car for quarters on the dollar?? No one will know that this car is not authentic except the new owner and me. I'm not telling anyone! This is a prime opportunity to own a piece of muscle car history at a fraction of that price. A great deal of time, money, and effort went into making the car you see listed in this description. What you see is exactly what you get! Plain and simple! The Nada Classic Car Price Guide has the current values that anyone can check on-line for a 1970 442 W-30 convertible listed at $219,000 in the highest condition, $165,360 in average condition, and $143,400 in the lowest condition. I try to show and list everything I can think of when I write a description, but if there is anything you feel I may have missed, please ask me any question you like. I pride myself in answering every question in explicit detail with the utmost honesty. This fine looking example will be sold on a quick 3-day "No Reserve" auction that will sell to the highest bidder on Monday evening. Make sure to get all your bids in before the Monday Night Football game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New Orleans Saints, so you can show your friends what you won at halftime. Good Luck and Happy Bidding!!
