Vehicle Detail

Up for bidding is my 1974 Datsun 260Z. It is silver in color (Nissan paint code 306 Silver Metallic). I purchased this car from the original owner in 2008 and have loved it since. It is a low-mileage car at 63,500 original miles and it has resided in Alabama its entire life. The interior is in excellent condition for being almost completely original. The dash has a few small cracks in the center (has never been re-covered) and the headliner is falling at the front (needs re-gluing). The seats are absolutely excellent for the age and the carpet is not bad. The original "Z" logo driver's floor mat is included. As you can see, the original owner replaced the hub caps and original wheels in the 1970s with the Western alloy wheels the car still has to this day. The glass is excellent all around with only a couple of small rock chips in the windshield that have been repaired. I have upgraded the car in several ways to make it more enjoyable as a daily driver, as I have used it this year. I will list those modifications now. - The original engine's bottom end was freshly rebuilt when I bought the car. My father and I rebuilt the cylinder head and replaced the timing components at the same time. This engine has seen just over 1,500 miles since.- I replaced the original mustache bar bushings with Energy Suspension Polygraphite units.- I built a "Ron Tyler" style mount for the rear differential that replaces the original mounting strap with a popular GM Transmission mount (Also Energy Suspension Polygraphite).- The best thing I did for the car was replace the original smog equipment-laden carburetors with 240Z style "round top" carburetors re-manufactured and machined by ZTherapy. This engine BREATHES.- This summer (< 300 miles ago), I replaced the brake master cylinder, rotors, calipers, wheel cylinders, shoes, and installed Wagner Thermo Quiet Ceramic pads and Earl's stainless braided hoses. - The original radio did not work and I replaced it with an Alpine CD unit while retaining the original power antenna switch on the center console. - I replaced the original fuel delivery system with an Airtex brand inline fuel pump mounted at the rear of the car alongside a universal-fit 5/16" fuel filter.- I retained the original rear bumper and moved it 2" closer to the body by modifying the original bumper brackets. This provided for a more compact and stylish look, in my opinion.- The original front bumper for this car was in pretty bad shape and I removed it in hopes of finding a 240Z bumper which we all now know are made of solid gold. $$$- When the carburetors were replaced, I fabricated a pair of air filter housings using K&N filters. I finished one of these and the other just needs to be painted. The following will be included with the car: - Original "flat-top" carburetors and smog equipment- New Moog brand Polyurethane sway bar end-links for both sides- New Moog brand tie-rod ends for both sides (the originals are still tight but the rubber dust boots have deteriorated)- 3 quarts of Lucas Gear Oil for a transmission oil change that I was not able to complete this summer- 1 quart of PPG single stage paint (306 Silver Metallic) and a self-propeller unit I was going to use as a temporary touch-up- Factory Nissan Service Manual which covers all repairs and routine maintenance items- All the original tools that came with the car (jack, wheel chocks, etc, packaged in the rear stowage bins) Now, for the part all of us love. Problems with the car. Thankfully, there aren't many. First generation Z-cars tend to play along with a pesky side-kick named Rust. Thankfully, this car has mostly had solo battles. The only problematic area is the rear quarter panels behind the wheels. On the driver's side, the paint is starting to bubble up in an area approximately 1" x 3" and the passenger side has the same area but with a small hole that finally gave way this summer. The other notorious locations for rust on these cars (doglegs, rocker panels, floorboards, battery tray, etc) are all solid on this example with the exception of minor surface rust in a few spots. Before I owned the car, it was lightly struck by a golf cart on the rear passenger corner behind the wheel which made a few small dents and scratches. This is hardly noticeable since I relocated the rear bumper closer to the body. As you read above, I replaced most of the entire braking system this summer. The one piece I did not replace, the brake booster, finally started leaking vacuum a couple of weeks ago. You can hear a faint vacuum leak when the brakes are applied. This car has only been repainted once in its 38 years with us (10/74 build date) so the coating is starting to show its age. I was told by the original owner it was repainted in 1998. The paint exhibits "spider-webbing" on the upward facing surfaces of the car when viewed closely. The paint on the rear hatch has been pretty "baked" as I would call it and is starting to flake off. From 20 feet away, it is hardly noticeable but I felt it was worth noting that the car would need new paint for anyone looking to restore it to some degree. I have included a quart of PPG paint that could be used to solve the problem areas until a full repaint could be completed. Don't hesitate to ask questions or express concerns. I love talking about this car and will not be hesitant with any inquiries. Thank you for looking. All the best, Grant Hollingsworth On Oct-19-12 at 08:55:46 PDT, seller added the following information: I wanted to add that I do have the original wheels and hubcaps, as well. I've added a photo of those. I also still have the original A/C compressor (Dealer-installed unit) and some brackets that would be needed if you wanted to install it. I felt it was worth noting that some of the weatherstripping needs replacing. I know that can be a given with a car this old but I wanted to be as transparent as possible. On Oct-19-12 at 08:58:18 PDT, seller added the following information: I will add the photo of the wheels and hubcaps later tonight. Sorry for the delay. On Oct-19-12 at 11:13:58 PDT, seller added the following information: Sorry, here is a working link. This is a video of the car starting without use of the choke or anything else. These carburetors are magical. http://youtu.be/vSFKvudgdjk On Oct-20-12 at 20:16:36 PDT, seller added the following information: I have now added photos of the included original wheels and hubcaps, as well as the original luggage straps.
