Vehicle Detail
A sad day today. For sale is a 1965 Mercury Comet Cyclone. Purchased new by the family in 1965 and has been in the family ever since. We realize it's probably not going to get done in it's current situation, so it's time to offer it up to someone else. It was last on the road in daily driver form in the early 80's, it has been in storage ever since. Actual mileage is unknown for sure but it's over 100,000. It will run and go down the road as is but it needs alot of attention to be considered road worthy. Consider her a project, she needs restoration. The car is very original. It has the original 289, transmission, rear end, interior and the wheel covers in the pictures are original equipment. It has the desireable original fiberglass hood and dash mounted tach. The Hurst shifter and the valve covers are aftermarket. I'm listing this for a family member and I'll direct you to him for any questions or if you would like to discuss the car. Please email through eBay for contact info.On Oct-12-12 at 19:23:06 PDT, seller added the following information: The car does not have either power steering or power brakes. It has more rust issues than the pictures indicate. This is a project car. Local inspections are welcome but if you are serious, I would encourage at least a conversation with the owner, he can fill you in on some of the finer condition details. On Oct-14-12 at 07:54:46 PDT, seller added the following information: The car does have a title and it's in hand. The number on the drivers door matches the VIN number. The car has seen a few Michigan winters back in the 70's. A lot of questions about "how much rust does it have"? The description sums it up but you are going to be replacing metal in the rear of the car. She's over 45 years old, has been sitting for over 30. We will try to get up some more pictures up and definitely contact the owner for a more complete overall picture of the car.On Oct-14-12 at 07:56:19 PDT, seller added the following information: Ask for Mike at 1-231-861-4785.On Oct-15-12 at 17:03:55 PDT, seller added the following information: Today's update. The original owners manual is included with the Cyclone. It was purchased from Duthler Ford in Grand Rapids Michigan. We remember having a conversation about the rare option combination of the car but we have no documentation to support it. Apparently there were not too many made with the fiberglass hood, V8, buckets, dash tach and 4 speed. We have a few more pictures and inspected the underbody more. The trunk area and the leaf spring mounts appear to be in decent condition. The rear fenders behind the rear tires will need some metal work. The left front inner fender well will too. There were some new upper shock mounts fabricated and mounted at one time and are solid. There are currently air shocks in the rear, you can see the lines in the trunk picture. It will need some work, but it's repairable.
