Vehicle Detail
1965 (May 1965A) Mustang1965 there were 409,260 2-door hardtops built. Mine is number 128,792 in the San Jose, CA production line. The current miles on the odometer is 168,xxx. I am the third owner (that I am aware of) I do not know how many miles are on the current engine, was replaced with same type that was in previously Engine 6 cyl, 200, 3 speed automatic transmission. The car runs good. The only thing this car needs is a new paint job - past 10 feet of looking at the car you can see imperfections in the paint. The paint job was done around 1998-1999. However, the paint job and the look in the car is perfectly fine for me. This car was originally blue - you can see that a little under the hood and under the trunk. The plates on the car are collector plates. New items this year include: Carburetor, water pump, heater fan and core, radiator, thermometer, electrical switch in lines for brakes and blinkers, fan, rear air shocks On the bottom bumper (under the chrome one there is a tiny dent). I have a brand new unpainted bumper that will go with this car when it sales. The brakes and steering is manual. There are two speakers installed in the rear (where speakers would go) - not hooked up, wires are present. The original speakers up front work with original radio and speakers. Yes, at this time all the lights, blinkers and gauges work. However, I "think" the gas gauge is off by approx. 1/4 (i.e. if it says 1/2 tank it is about 1/4 tank, but when it is full the gauge says F) - I always drive it and keep the fuel going through it and have never run out of gas. The speedometer - It flutters between the speed you are going to maybe 5 to 10 MPH more - (i.e. if I am doing 70 MPH on the freeway it flutters between 70 and 80 MPH. This has never bothered me so I have never even looked at the root of the problem. The switch in the steering wheel that controls the brake lights and blinkers was changed out a few months ago and all works. Does it have any rust in the body or underneath? I have never seen any rust on the car and underneath looks pretty clean. It is garaged and only driven when it does not rain. The owner previous to me told me that it was garaged and never driven in the rain as well. Does it have any oil leaks or smoking? The car does not smoke or at this time does not have any leaks. In March of this year (2012), all the seals in the transmission were changed out because I had a small leakage and got all that fixed. I have a big carpet in my garage I drive my mustang onto and that is where it sits in my garage. There are no leaks or stains on the carpet that my Mustang sits on. For someone who has never driven a manual steering or manual brake vehicle: Braking: You need to give yourself one car length in space more if you do drive in wet weather. Steering: on the straightway it drives straight but when pulling into a tight parking spot you need some muscle :) Anything a potential buyer should know: The car normally starts right up. I just pump one time on the gas pedal. If more than a few pumps, you will flood it. Sometimes the choke sticks (when the car is cold). This is easy – it the car does not turnover immediately after you pump once and turn the ignition to start then that means the choke is open not shut (on this car the when car is cold, choke to be cold). The quick fix: Take off air filter, on the top of the carburetor, use the throttle on the carb and push the flap down. Once closes – go start the car – do not pump until you have it started. I normally warm the car up for about 5 minutes before driving. ( I am female and the only driver so this can all be done by a woman) I never lock the car because where I drive and keep in my garage. The two door locks on each door are sporadic in locking. This has never bothered me so I have not fixed. The driver door: The top hinge sometimes squeaks, when the door first opens. I have never sprayed it or fixed it because one again does not bother me and does not affect the driving of the car. The thermometer: If you want to drive it in heavy traffic where you sit a long time, I would recommend changing the thermometer for a lower temp threshold. The one I have is new, but there was another I probably should have switched it to. The wiper blades: probably needs new ones, they mechanically work, but I have never driven in the rain so I don’t know if the blades keep the water off the window. Other things fixed this year I forgot to mention: two front wheel barring’s. Rust: I am not aware of any rust on the car. Paint: The paint is not perfect like I mentioned, but it is still shiny Mileage: The mileage on the car as of 10/5/12 is: 169,700 I think I have covered all the little details about the entire car. It is pretty solid and very pretty. Please feel free to email with any questions or if you want specific pictures of the car and I will send to you.
