Vehicle Detail

Hi Folks,I"m selling the bike I've owned and ridden on two continents (it's been on three) after 13 years of ownership: I've got twins, and they won't be needing a bike for a long long time. Someone else can enjoy this thoroughly restored and updated motorcycle. Inspected, insured, on the road (was tearing up and down Somerville and Cambridge yesterday afternoon, good times!). See my shaky, rambling YouTube video at: http://youtu.be/ay0aVGdxH1s In the video I incorrectly say the restoration was 2000. It was actually 2001-2002). One other note: the mileage in this listing is not the actual mileage of the motorcycle: eBay wouldn't let me list it without the miles, so there it is.. but in no way reflects the total miles this bike has seen... in Britain, Africa, the US and who knows where. I'm listing this locally as well, and I'll sell it to whoever first comes up with a cleared personal or Cashiers check or cash for (ideally) the buy it now amount, the winning bid. Local pickup only, or organize your own shipping, I'll make sure I'm here to meet the shipping company. Happy to answer any and all questions and email more pics! MattBACKGROUND:This bike was originally shipped to the Nigerian Army in the late 70's, brought back to the UK in the mid 90's as part of a container full of "scrap metal" and sold to Ian Pearce in Mitcham, London, from whom I bought it in May-June 1999. For two years it was my only vehicle in the UK. However, in 2001-2002 I put her through a complete tear-down restoration, with a powder coated frame and rebuilt engine. I finally rode again her during the Summer of 2002 after which I promptly left for the USA, leaving her in the care of a friend. Fast forward to 2006, and she's in a container again, bound for the port of New York. Once again she lay in storage until this Summer (2012) when - with twins born - I realized it was time to bring her back to life and sell her to someone who'd enjoy her possibly for the next decade or two!BRIEFLY: she's had just about every recommended upgrade to this bike, plus some personalized changes. Have most receipts dating back to 1999.THE DETAILS:Frame-up rebuild in 2001-2002, plus some additional upgrades in 2012 including:Powder coated frameProfessionally resprayed fuel tank. A gem!Rebuilt engine (John Reeve, Twickenham, London)Morgo oil pump - cooler engineElectronic Ignition - hey, this was my only vehicle! Way more reliable startsCompletely rewired - way more reliable"Solid state" rectifier and Zener diode - good bye dicky Lucas electronics!New front stanchions and bushings - better dampingNorman Hyde Fork Brace - greater stabilityPaper oil filter conversion - cleaner oilMAP Deluxe Belt Drive conversion 2012 - smoother drive and easier clutch actionMikuni Carburetor Conversion 2012 - more power, reliabilityNew pipes and 1960's style mufflers - niiice!New seat cover 2006 - drier butt!New front brake master cylinder 2012 - errr, need I say why?Rebuilt front and rear brakes with braided hoses - better brake "feel"All fluids changed Sep 2012What does she need now? Nothing, but if you were after perfection, then you'd notice the following:1: The front and rear rims have light surface rust and could use re-chroming.2: The still fairly new front forks (hey, only 600miles on them) are still a bit stiff, so I would probably fiddle with the Hyde fork brace a bit to get easier action. 3: The speedometer is a little wobbly until appx 50mph, after which it settles down. With all those maniacs out there, the speedometer is the last thing I'm looking at, so I've lived with it just fine. Trade-in rebuilds cost $175 for you neat nicks .That's it. Comes with all specialized tools for a tear-down of the engine, manual and parts catalog, and a ton of spares... err, most of which I'm slowly selling-off on ebay, so buy NOW, while she still has spares!Great bike for Sunday afternoons, or your daily commute. Take your pic! Better still: buy it, take your pics and then email them to me (haha). I'd like to see this bike being used!On Oct-04-12 at 07:09:57 PDT, seller added the following information: Hi Folks,I"m selling the bike I've owned and ridden on two continents (it's been on three) after 13 years of ownership: I've got twins, and they won't be needing a bike for a long long time. Matt NOTE: I've had a lot of inquiries from overseas and - though there have been plenty of bids - nobody has come to look at the bike for themselves. So, little blemishes I couldn't care less about, and would ordinarily leave for the prospective buyers to see for themselves, I now feel obligated to point out. I therefore have added three more line items to the list of imperfections at the end of this ad. See also new photos I just added.BACKGROUND:This bike was originally shipped to the Nigerian Army in the late 70's, brought back to the UK in the mid 90's as part of a container full of "scrap metal" and sold to Ian Pearce in Mitcham, London, from whom I bought it in May-June 1999. You can't see it from five feet away, but when you get close you can see it. I really only notice it when I polish them, at which point I can just about feel it with my hands.5: Note, just added: there is a very slow oil leak from the oil filter retainer nut and the oil drain bolt (See picture I just added). Both are trivial issues and can be merrily ignored, as I have, or they can be easily fixed in 30mins, if you don't mind getting oily. 6: Note, just added: Although almost all the chrome on the front fender is in great condition, there is a small area where the chrome has disappeared around where a bolt holds the fender to the frame. Was like that when I bought it, and it never bothered me too much, but you can decide if it bothers you. Looks like someone forgot to place a nylon washer between the two...
