Vehicle Detail
What says more than riding a Triumph? Riding a Triumph Thruxton of course! This bike has been absolutely fantastic. It got a new rear Metzeler LaserTec tire at the beginning of the season, the front will probably need to be changed before spring. This is NOT a trailer queen or posing motorcycle...this bike has been ridden...it has earned the patina it carries. I have the taken-off rear fender and tail light assembly in a box if you want to take it back to stock. This bike has been 100% reliable despite being british. The only thing outside of normal maintenance has been cleaning the carbs this spring and replacing the Clutch side gasket and the dyno sidecover gasket (they were weepy), since then it hasn't leaked a drop. Normal motor oxidation as expected on an 8 year old bike, chrome still shines up awesome and the bodywork still gets compliments although I'd probably buff it out to give it a high shine. I've got a really slick tank bag thats a Triumph factory accessory for this bike and it allows you to fill the tank without removing the bag, very cool and it holds an impressive amount of stuff. I've swapped out the factory driver pegs with something smaller and less DOT looking. The passenger pegs are the stock units. The Mirror is the stock factory unit. The right mirror was lost years ago. I can help you out with shipping, I'll be happy to bring it to you for $2 / mile within a 200 mile range. I'm also interested in trades of bikes or guns, that sort of stuff, contact me directly. You'll have to make a $500 deposit via paypal if you win the auction...no backing out or buyers remorse, change your mind? Lose the deposit...this is a great bike and it's gonna go for a hell of a lot less than the $10,000 plus out the door my local dealer wants for a new one. I've really enjoyed this motorcycle - it's a completely iconic cafe racer. I've got a new Guzzi so, this one has to go. It has a LOT of life left in it, and you'll absolutely dig this bike. A REVIEW FROM BIKEZ.COM Torque was very good and I did not find any flat spots to speak of. The gearbox was solid and shifting was precise, and I felt the bike would be somewhat forgiving for beginners if not for the rather committed riding crouch. Ducatis are much worse for hand/wrist wear. I felt the brakes to be very good, offering piece of mind and grab when I wanted it. I did get to open the bike up all the way and did see the nice side of 120 MPH, letting off of the gas settles the bike back down nicely and the powerband is smooth and assuring. There is more than enough passing power to get around murderous farm equipment and trucks on two lane roads. As for riding in town, the Thruxton´s engine does well in stop and go situations, no pulsing or coughing like my Softtail, and the idle is even and sure. I did find myself shifting into neutral and sitting up at red lights to stretch, but that is mainly due to age and laziness. There was also no trouble zipping into lanes and the controls for the turn signals and horn are all handily within reach and easy to use, I know because I got the oppurtunity to use both extensivley in the hectic German rush hour traffic. I give the bike 8 ouot of 10 points. A REVIEW FROM MOTORCYCLEUSA Out of the villages, away from the numerous speed cameras that seem to be all over England these days, the pace picks up and at times I see triple digits registering on the round-faced speedometer. In top gear the Thruxton has five this equates to around 6000 rpm, which is about 2000 rpm shy of the rev limiter. Producing a claimed 69 horsepower at 7250 rpm there is really little to be gained revving past this point. Chin on the clocks, hammering down a stretch of dual carriageway, I saw the speedo needle hitting just shy of 120 mph at one point. I was actually very impressed with the bikes high-speed travel manners. Following a group of Italian journalists back to our hotel, the speedo needle stays solidly between 90-100 mph. What this shows me is the Thruxton's ability to easily hold these speeds. With no real fairing, the wind hits you solidly in the chin and gives the wrists some relief from the low bars. There is no need to change down out of fifth gear to overtake, as top gear pulls very respectfully from 70 mph. So up hill and down dale we ride. Taking in a good cross section of everything England has to offer, including a quick visit to Stonehenge. Beneath me the Triumph Thruxton 900 is purring effortlessly as we make our way back to Thruxton. Triumph's new bike is perfectly suited to the English roads, it is going to make a backroad rider's delight here in the USA and spark a bunch of conversations on a trip to your local coffee shop. I'm grateful we have manufacturers such as Triumph producing bikes like the Thruxton. Totally unique and harking back to perhaps a simpler time in life when Triumphs and Nortons roamed the world, it gives a fantastic opportunity to recapture these old halcyon days of motorcycling without all the pitfalls of riding bikes of that era.
