Vehicle Detail
2001 VW Jetta with 1.8T and 5 speed manual. This is a good running cheap commuter/station car/beater. I've driven this car to work 100 miles round trip almost every day since March. It is reliable and averages 29 mpg in mixed highway/city driving. I'm 6'5" and unfortunately this car is killing my knees getting in and out of it. I purchased a 2 door car for commuting and am selling this one. The title is clear. VW has a little under 107,000 miles on it as of writing this. It will go up a little, due to still driving it, but will not come near the 108,000 as the mileage that I listed. Car has had the timing belt, water pump, clutch, brakes (all around), coils and plugs replaced within the last 10-15k miles. It starts up runs and drives daily without a hitch. Turbo 4 cylinder has pretty nice power and gets good fuel economy. Being a Volkswagen there are plenty of things that are wrong with it. Most are minor and merely annoy me. The electric door lock and trunk release work sporadically when they feel like it. The driver's door lock will open 99 times out of 100. The passenger side door almost never opens from the outside but will always open from the inside. The rear doors will take turns on deciding which one will unlock. Trunk will sometimes release, sometimes not. Right now it doesn't feel like opening. Interior is rather beat up. VW uses a hard brittle plastic on its interior panels. Most of these are cracked and were screwed together haphazardly by the previous owner. This doesn't bother me as I use the car strictly for commuting. Mirror control switch is broken. Cruise control doesn't work. Glove compartment screwed shut. There is a half dollar sized dent on the driver's front fender. Windshield washer doesn't work. Wipers work fine. Emergency brake doesn't work and will set off a "Brake" light on the dash with a chime randomly. Sometimes it doesn't go on for weeks, sometimes it stays on for 15 minutes. It's a VW, who can explain it? I always just leave it in gear when parked, so no problems for me. Tint on the windows is very old and should be replaced. Interior sliding moonroof cover is MIA. Missing one center cap from the driver's side rear wheel. Some of those nifty VW Venetian blind vent covers are broken/missing. Hood release didn't work, so I Installed hood pins. Accessory belt will sometimes squeak after driving through a large puddle. I hit a rather large raccoon a few weeks ago which damaged the front bumper cover. The grille popped out as well. I still drive it the way it is, but unless you're not picky about your beater, like I am, you should probably replace it. The bumper is under $100 new. (The raccoon survived) The passenger side marker light also popped out in the raccoon incident and is missing. On the good side, after all of that. It starts up and runs perfectly every day. I charged the A/C at the beginning of the summer and it is still ice cold today. All windows and the moonroof operate as they should (weird for a VW). Car was painted flat black in the past it looks pretty good and the "Tuner" kids think its cool. Factory BBS wheels are really nice. 3 tires are at about 60% one is about 25%. I have another good tire ill throw in. JVC stereo works perfectly and sounds really good through the original speakers. KBB private party for this thing is around $2400 in "average" condition. I'm listing it at a third of that with no reserve. If you're lookin for that elusive cheap beater with good mpg, this is your chance. I ask that you send a $200 deposit within 12 hours of the auctions end, and please plan on picking up the VW within a week. I'll assist you in any way that I can. I added pictures of the interior. I don't know why they are upside down. Ebay made me change the title from "Clear" To "Rebuilt/Reconstructed". I assure you that this car has a clear NY title, and can be registered in any state without any problems.
