Vehicle Detail
Suzuki's venerable LT80 (identical to the Kawasaki KFX80) 2-cycle, oil-injected youth quad. Virtually unchanged from 1986 through 2005!! This is a highly-modified 1987 model. This machine had a complete frame off done last spring. At that time we replaced the front suspension with one from an LT160 so it has longer, wider, stronger A-arms, bigger shocks, bigger tie rods and beefier steering stem! We powdercoated the frame and suspension components as well!We also have custom billet-cnc'd handlebar clamps and axle extensions that are not included in this auction. Winning bidder will have opportunity to purchase if they wish. If they choose not to purchase them, I will list them separately. The rebuild progress and final result can be seen in the photos and it's obvious this is not a typical LT80. We built this machine to be a capable trail machine and it is exactly that. It's only been a ridden for one season since all of this work has been done and has NEVER BEEN ABUSED!! I want to stress that we do trail riding mostly in West Virginia (Hatfield McCoy) and my son never hot-rodded, jumped (ok, SMALL jumps), rolled or crashed this quad!! This is not a full race quad - but it wouldn't take much work to get there!! We replaced crank bearings, rear transmission bearings and any other bearings, seals or hoses that were not up to spec during the build-up. The list of mods include: - Bored .50mm over - Wiseco Piston - New crank bearings and seals, new rear seals - Clutch work - rollers removed from drive clutch. Driven clutch weights lightened (for increased stall speed)!- Jack Moore ported intake and exhaust ports (equals better flow and atomization of fuel AND higher RPM's!!) - Head decked (shaved .020) -- higher compression but still runs pump gas (89 octane) - Retained oil injection - Powdercoated frame, A-arms, steering stem, etc. - Split footpeg mod -- this splits the footpeg for easier removal for access to clutches - Semi-polished engine case/swingarm (didn't go full polish because it's a trail machine...) - 12T front sprocket (faster top end) - New sprockets and chain (currently running #40 hardware chain but can run 420 O-ring chain as well) - Teixeira 1-1/2" swingarm extension. I know it doesn't sound like much but it is and 1.5" is perfect! - DG pipe - Boyesen Reeds - Uni filter - ITP aluminum wheels - Holeshot front tires, Turf saver rear - LT160 conversion parts: o A-arms o Front brakes (drum) o Steering stem o Tie rods, tie rod ends o Front and rear shocks - Custom billet 2" rear axle extensions available (not included in auction!!!!) - Custom front shock mounts - Pull start -- starts first pull 90% of the time cold or hot! - Factory thumb throttle; speed limiter screw could be reinstalled until rider is acclimated to the machine - Custom cut Cometic clutch cover gasket. Made from same material as the Harley-Davidson race bikes- New air-intake elbow (from airbox to carb)- Retained oil-injection simply for convenience when getting gas (some of the H-M trails have town connectors and it was just easier to ride into town and get straight gas instead of needing to mix it!!) Issues: The front brakes need adjustment (tightened up). The back brake "sticks" which means a stronger return spring needs to be installed. Both are minor adjustment issues and hardly detract from what this machine is. That being said I currently don't have the time to adjust them. This is the only issue with this machine!! If buyer wishes I can help you adjust the brakes before you leave so your son/daughter will be SAFE!! Perfect for someone who may have purchased one of those Chinese or Taiwan-made knock-off POS machines (that are "98% compatible with Honda"...right...) and is ready to upgrade!! This would be a perfect first quad for a larger child as well especially since the throttle limiter can be replaced while they learn to ride!! Purchase AS-IS. This was a fantastic project for my son and I but he has physically outgrown it - but it still has the power to take him wherever he wants to go!! This will haul full-size adults around with no issues and people often use these for pit bikes!! This quad was built LONG before ATV's required titles and therefore this quad does not have one. I can offer bill of sale. We truly hate to see this machine go but it's time for another family to enjoy it!! Will NOT ship! May be willing to meet for pickup if need be but would require compensation for fuel AND downpayment. Payment via PAYPAL!!
