1970 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 85% complete frame-off restoration! You're looking at a rare opportunity to own a classic, premium off-road project vehicle at a bargain price. I bought into this project with a partner who was meticulous, but not reliable, and I ended up trying to finish the project with my brother. He's since had several children and I've moved out of state, so if you're looking for a nearly complete restoration requiring limited mechanical work, this is for you. This early model Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 has been stripped down to the chassis and thoroughly restored with exquisite detail, but it is not complete. It started with a complete frame-off tear down addressing every last nut and bolt. It was said that when it was last assembled, this FJ40 would stand taller and stouter than its factory counterparts. But other than the custom drive shafts (included), it is compatible with the factory FJ40. Take one look at the pictures, and you'll see how well restored this vehicle is. You can find pictures of the vehicle and parts here. Much of the restoration project is complete. I would estimate the project is 85% complete. The following work has is already completed: The frame has been completely stripped and refinished. No rust! Axles and brakes were completely rebuilt and reinstalled with all-new seals. The body was completely disassembled, blasted, and painted. While the body was off of the frame, the tub, fenders, and transmission cover were given a Line-X undercoat. The tub was also Line-X coated on the inside from under the rim of the tubto half way up the firewall. THE LINE-X COATINGS WERE NOT APPLIED TO HIDE RUST!!!!! Brand new factory rims and new tires installed. New Warn premium hubs are installed. The engine, transmission, and transfer case have been completely rebuilt. The engine assembly was blueprinted. New rod and main bearings were installed by previous owner. No inferior or degraded parts were used. Gears were hardened for better-than-factory performance in the gearboxes. Factory new parts were used when available. The engine, transfer case, and transmission are installed in the chassis. The clutch and flywheel are installed in the chassis. A new gear reduction (upgrade) starter is installed. The body is installed on the chassis. In addition to the work already done, the following parts are included: Clean New Mexico title. New soft top. New roll bar. New seat foams and seat covers. New brake lines ready to install. Brake assemblies and clutch system are installed and ready to go. New electric harness from Painless Wiring. New dash pad from SOR. New stainless body hardware kit. Multiple other new relays and switches. Many cleaned and restored turn signals, lights, etc. including extras. There is much, much more included but not noted here. Because some essential parts were missing, I purchased a complete, running 1972 FJ40, from which you may also draw any parts you would like to use for the restoration, including seat frames, the hard top, the steering column and wheel, mirrors, etc. The frame and title from the 1972 are specifically excluded. As you can see from the pictures, the vehicle is not complete. Here is a rough outline of the work that would need to be completed to finish the vehicle: Carburetor Clean and rebuild -- three to choose from, all in good shape. Steering Rebuild steering box -- complete but has some play in it. Speedometer Install speedometer. Electrical Install harness. Install switches and lights. Procure and install battery. Install turn signals. Fuel Clean fuel tank. Install fuel tank. Install fuel lines and pump. Initial run Set timing on valves. Seats Build or acquire compatible seat frames. Assemble seats. Body Install mirrors. Install hood. Install windshield. Install rubber bumpers. Install soft top. Install rear doors Install tranny cover Hard Top (optional) Blast, repair, and paint hard top to match. Hard top is in very good shape. Same for hard doors which are also in good shape. If this work were to be completed at the same quality as the previous work, this vehicle would probably be worth $40,000 - $70,000. If completed with a moderate quality, the vehicle would easily be worth $30,000. I recently saw a 1972 in good shape but with no restoration selling for $27,000. I have personally put over $13,000 into this project plus countless hours of labor and tracking down the hard to find stuff and I know it's worth that, but you can take over this project and call it your own for only $12,000. I am motivated and have set a low reserve at $5,000. Buyer must arrange shipping or pickup from Los Lunas, NM, but I will work with the buyer to prep the vehicle for shipment. I recommend the buyer pick up the vehicle directly if possible. Delivery is available to any location in NM for $2/mile. For more information, or to arrange to see the vehicle, please e-mail me. I will be updating this ad responding to questions promptly.
