Vehicle Detail
1964 Triumph TR4 - with overdrive transmission Hello and welcome to the Auction! Up for bids is a superb little British sports car. Let the wings of time drift you back to the early sixties. All new for Triumph is the Michelotti designed TR4 with sporty Italian styling and a British sense of fun. What could possibly be better than a winding country road behind the wheel of a Triumph TR4? Can you remember looking into the showroom floor? The Triumph available today is a late production 1964 Triumph TR4 with a few optional extras. It has its original wooden dash, an optional extra as of mid 1963. A rare option seldom seen on pre-65 cars. An added bonus is the matching Moto-Lita wooden sport steering wheel. It also has the very desirable Electric Overdrive transmission with over drive selectable on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears. The engine is the original 2.2 Litre Standard Triumph in-line 4 cylinder push rod engine. It has great torque and runs excellent. Condition: Mechanically, the Triumph is in very sound condition. Extensive work, has been done to the suspension. It is very tight and handles well. New brakes were installed recently and it stops straight and true. The transmission synchromesh are all in correct order, it shifts smoothly and tight. The engine was rebuilt recently, and has excellent power and compression. It is warm blooded, but that is completely normal. The steering is nice and precise as well. A brand new exhaust and performance headers are an added bonus. Electrically, all the lights are in working order. All the gauges are also operational. The generator operates well and charges the battery accordingly. These cars are very basic, so there isn't much to go wrong. It has the Original and correct Triumph AM radio... that is currently not working, but a nice bonus for the collector. The bodywork is very straight and solid. I have not found signs of any major body work. The car looks and feels solid. The paint is in very good condition and free of scratches of chips. Overall, I would rate the car as an excellent driver. It will not win a concourse d'elegance but you can stand proudly next to it without any shame. Interior and top: The interior is in fair to good condition, the seats and carpeting were replaced a few years and show normal signs of wear and tear; but are still very presentable. The panels and very good to excellent shape. The wooden dash is in very good condition, no cracks or chips. The stow-away convertible top is in good condition, no tears or rips. One of the clips is a bit torn and loose near the back left hand side. A roll bar has been installed for safety, however it can easily be unmounted if the new owner opts for more originality. Tires: All four brand new tires were just installed prior to listing the vehicle. Rare to find they are matching series 165R15, as used originally. I acquired this car originally from Oregon, where NO salt is used during winter time, so no risk of corrosion to be afraid of, and it's been so much fun to own. The floorpans, as well as the rest of the body are as rock solid as the day the car left the factory all those years ago. Funding for college will be needed soon, and this is the only reason for the sale. I have over $5000.00 in work receipts (all receipts have been carefully kept) for mechanical work done on this great convertible, just another proof of its great, worry free, condition. It's always been garage kept and only driven on bright sunny days. Everywhere we've gone with this car it brings out smiles on everyone's face, whether nostalgic admirers coming to talk or curious youngsters. Everyone is your friend when you drive this car. It will surely make you smile as well. The Triumph TR4 according to Classics Ltd. magazine is one of the top "Buy Now" cars on the market for under $20k. Their values are skyrocketing, and they will soon no longer be accessible. This means now is the time to buy. Not only will it give you years of driving enjoyment but it is also a sound investment in the classic car marketplace. Thank you so much for stopping by and the best of luck on the bidding. If I have left any questions unanswered please feel free to ask and I will respond right away.
