Vehicle Detail
1970 Datsun 1600 "Fairlady" Roadster for sale. Moving soon and we can't take it with us, my loss is your gain. Please read the entire description before bidding! This car is 42 yrs old and as such has some defects, but I will say right off the back that it starts, idles, runs and stops just fine. That being said, here is what I know to be wrong: She needs a new soft top, but the frame is just fine. Soft top frame needs new windshield seal, but one will be included with the sale. A few of the "posties" for the soft top have come out, but they are easy to find and relatively inexpensive to replace. There are a couple of rust bubbles on the left rear fender although neither has broken through the paint. The paint around the license plate has started to chip off and is showing the primer underneath. The door limiter has pulled loose on the driver's side (taking a portion of the jam with it), see pictures. The trim on the driver's door is a little bent up due to the door limiter issue. The grill is fine for a daily driver car, but has a couple of minor dings that will need some work if you plan to show. The rear bumper has seen some action, but nothing that looks to difficult to straighten and has contacted the body on the corners, but nothing real damaging there. There is some rot through rust on the bottom of the passenger side front corner panel just behind the wheel well which you have to crawl under the car to see. Rubber around filler tube is cracked. Rubber on the doors and around the windshield is hard and cracked in places. Windshield is cracked, but it doesn't effect visibility badly and I've never been pulled over and asked about it. Driver's seat does not move freely back and forth, some finesse is required. Dash is cracked badly, covered amateurly, and will need to be replaced. The center console door is loose but there, the lock is there but none of the keys I have fit it. Steering wheel is cracked and has been covered with a wrap. The heater does not work and some of the ducts are missing. The original radio does not work and the antenna is missing. The speedometer was not working and was replaced with a used one so the overall mileage is incorrect. The driver's door window crank is stripped and has been raised and lowered with vice grips, a new window lifter will be included in the sale, but you will still need to track down a window crank. Lock knob on the passenger door is missing. The original jack and tool kit are missing. Holes were cut through the rear wall to install speakers at some point, but they holes were covered over when the interior was redone (not by me). Dash throttle knob cable has come loose. The brake lights do not come on when brake pedal is depressed, the brake pedal switch appears newer, the bulbs themselves are fine and there is power to the bulb sockets. Headlights, side markers, turn signals, and flashers do work. Backup lights do not work and one is missing completely. Clock does not work One of the pictures looks to be a large crack in the frame, this is on both sides of the car, but they are NOT in the frame. It appears that sometime in it's history someone filled the seams where the front corner panels attach to the frame with bondo and painted over it and THAT is what is cracked. If you are wondering about the rock under the driver's side tire, it is there for safety only, the emergency brake works just fine. Still reading? Good! There are 3 keys, one for both doors and trunk, one for the locking gas cap, and one for the ignition American Racing rims with "spinners" all around, one spinner is off at the moment but it is included Tires all have decent tread and no dry rot Paint is decent but old, looks great at 15ft+ All chrome is present except for the "U" on the hood emblem (new emblem included in the sale), with a few dings from door bumps(and bending on driver's door from the aforementioned door limiter issue) Brakes and clutch have been gone through, tune-up, and shocks checked less than 1,000 miles ago Pioneer CD player and speakers installed behind seats, but are easily removed if you want the classic look Car is pre-1972 so no smog certification is needed in California! (Check with your states DMV regarding smog certification) Here is a list of what is included along with the car: Used 5-speed manual transmission, there is a 4-speed currently installed New soft top to windshield seal New Driver's door window lifter New "Fairlady" script emblem New "DATSUN" hood lettering 2 spare stock radios, untested, not sure if they work. New dash clock Heavy duty grill badge with matching key fob Luggage rack, has never been installed on the car so there are no holes in trunk if you don't want one on 2 used lap belts New chrome stone guards for the headlamps which are actually for a Triumph, but are the correct size Boot cover for when the top is down Nifty set of roadside safety reflectors in a metal box which keeps them nicely together, I do not think these are original to the car, but they do look nice and appear to be vintage Spare gas cap, although it is not the coveted locking gas cap Rebuilt master cylinder Although the number of Datsun "Fairlady" Roadsters that are roadworthy are going down, there is a huge following for these forgotten classics and parts are available from several sources. All sales are final and may be completed through Pay Pal, Cashiers Check, or of course cash. No warranties expressed or given, car for sale as-is and where-is. Car must be removed from our property by Sept 9th as we are moving out of state. The car will need to be trailered due to brake lights not functioning and tags needing to be done. If you can't get it by Sept 9th, please do not bid. If you do not have the funds available to you, please do not bid. I'm sorry, but as a private party, I cannot take payments. Buyer is responsible for any and all shipping and shipping costs. Feel free to ask me any questions through eBay, I will try to answer them as quickly and precisely as I can. I will not sell the car outside of eBay unless the auction has run it's course and the reserve has not been reached.Happy Bidding!
